  1. It was a win-win for me. Instead of parking in front of the TV for almost 4 hours, after the third inning I set the DVR and took advantage of the first day this week that it was comfortable to be outside. Came back in two hours later and watched the game develop with liberal use of fast forward. I missed part of the game when I fainted after Saladino’s GS, but the score hadn’t changed anyway so I didn’t bother going back. Just got to the end of the game. Nice win but kind of concerned about Woodruff, especially since he was set up to face the Cubs twice. The off days this Thursday and next Monday could come in handy. I wonder if Shaw remembers how to play first base. That Thames injury looks like an instant DL. ETA- just saw the news on Woodruff. That’s going to be hard to overcome. I was already thinking the best move for the Brewers would be to stand pat or maybe pick up a depth bullpen arm if they can do it for lesser prospects. I see their only real chance to contend without giving more too much is to hope the offense can carry the team. That's what he has been playing in SA recently. They can't stand pat..even before Woody's injury I have said that. Now they have to go get a BIG arm. I disagree. Without Woodruff for an extended period thay aren’t going to have enough anyway, and I hate to see them pay what it would take to get a big arm, even if one is available. With so many teams looking to add pitching the prices are going to be astronomical.
  2. That's a 3-5 weeker. Can make it all the way to August 3 without needing a 5th starter, but with Houser/Peralta really solidifying the pen and Chacin being garbage I don't know how they can go without adding now. Is this what Anderson had two years ago? He was out the better part of two months I think.

  4. Woodruff’s pitch count is mounting quickly with only 3 outs. And the game is now pretty much out of reach. Good time to go back outside to enjoy the rest of a nice day.
  5. Absolute garbage lineup. Doesn’t mean they can’t win, especially if Woodruff can have a great game, but not much fun to watch a lineup with 4 pitchers. Is Yelich hurt too?
  6. Again, to those who keep bringing this up. Where he gonna play? Moose been struggling a bit, maybe give Moose a break or platoon and ride the hotter one? Other wise your not sitting Huira for him. I mean I assume they are not that dumb. I'm glad Shaw is having success in the minors and the Brewers dont rush it and try and squeeze him in somewhere. Let him have a strong end to the month then re evaluate. Two left handed hitters sharing the same position isn’t a platoon. And how do you figure out who is hotter if both players are getting inconsistent playing time? Shaw has to stay in the minors until September unless or until someone gets hurt or traded.
  7. How many times do you see a team have men on second and third with one out and their number 6 hitter coming up and they have virtually no chance of scoring a run?
  8. I think teams would notice Cain batting twice. Seriously, I think some people spend way too much time fussing about the batting order.
  9. Rock, don’t make excuses about tricky hops. Hiura just booted that one. Looks like he took his eye off the ball looking to make a quick throw. The Brewers are looking like the Reds did when they made a couple of errors and misplays to hand the Cardinals 8 of their 10 runs in the sixth inning tonight. (Yes, I watch other games).
  10. After staying up for the end of last night’s game and then being awakened at 4 AM by thunderstorms I didn’t figure to make it to the end tonight. Now I may not make the fifth inning. It’s going to take an hour and a half to get through 3.
  11. Some baseball fans enjoy watching more than one team and just following the game. Y’all would have more sanity if you didn’t worry about what other fans like to do. Enjoying the game =/= following standings in July When I said “following the game” I meant following the game of Major League Baseball, not just following the Brewers. With the pace of games these days it isn’t hard to keep track of multiple games at once and track fantasy players. Paying attention to standings is part of that.

  13. This team could reel of 10 in a row, and the sky would still only be held up by binder twine and scotch tape. Talk about dramatic. Are you Jussie Smollett? Similarly, the team could lose 10 in a row and it would still be too early to be concerned. If someone wants to see how fans of a team in the Brewers position should act they should check out a Phillies message board. I’m sure those fans are all very calm and rational.
  14. Padres just handed the Cubs a go ahead run in the 8th inning with two infield errors. The first one messed up what could have been an inning ending DP but instead sent runners to second and third. The second came after a walk to load the bases. A grounder produced a force out at home, but instead of holding the ball the catcher threw to first and Hosmer clanked it, allowing the run to score.
  15. That stat coming during a stretch when the Brewers lost more games than they won against teams with losing records illustrates what we already knew. That is that the Brewers have had problems beyond just starting pitching. The starters’ ERA has been good recently, but they still don’t cover enough innings to protect a thin bullpen. And the offense has had way too many low scoring games to put together an extended winning period. A turnaround has to start somewhere and hopefully this is it.
  16. In his last 7 starts, which were interrupted by a stint on the DL and include 3 starts against the Brewers, Lyles has an ERA over 10.
  17. I would agree that if the Brewers finish 26-10 this year like they did last year, they have a great chance to make the playoffs. But, if they need a finish like that just to make the playoffs, they’re probably going to fall short. Comparisons to last year are pretty meaningless because this year’s team is quite different, especially in the bullpen. That bullpen depth and a lot of off days in September (which they don’t have this year) allowed them to take advantage of the expanded rosters to put together that finishing surge. I wouldn’t count on that happening two years in a row. Last year’s team was in a much better position to make a late charge because they were never less than 11 games over .500 after the middle of May, even with the slump from early July until mid August. I still expect that it will take close to 90 wins to make the playoffs because some teams are going to break from the current logjam. If the Brewers want to be one of those teams, they have to start making the move sooner rather than later.
  18. Al McGuire used to say that the Queen Mary turns with a bump. The next 11 games will tell us a lot about whether this is a bump that starts a turnaround, or just a short respite from the fall.
  19. This is probably going to be too pessimistic for certain posters on this board but I'm not going believe they have turned a corner until they can show that this pitching staff can go through the rotation a couple of times at an acceptable level of performance. I need to see the consistency with the pitching. Say what you think. Don’t worry about this pessimistic optimistic crap that people are caught up in. It’s a load of nonsense. That’s what this board is for. People afraid to say what they honestly feel because they are worried about the fan police is boring. Any debate predicated on optimism/pessimism is useless. I literally could care less about how good a fan someone is. I just care about what’s going on in the field and have some fun with it Everyone on this board wants the brewers to win. Everyone. I completely agree. I really don’t get why people get so excited about this. I know a lot of sports fans and they come in all varieties. The people who follow the games every day, and in varying ways live and die with them, are great fans whether they choose to articulate their worst fears or greatest hopes.
