  1. The Pirates are playing this series perfectly. They know the Brewers will lose the first two and they have their lefty lined up for the sweep on Sunday.
  2. the way i see it, the brewers have only 54 more games where they are hampered by a 25-man roster. come 1 september, it can expand to 40. and come opening day 2020, it's 26. thus, the brewers really just have to be patient for the next 54 games with aguilar . . . And, unless there are some significant improvements from the starting pitchers, the games in September will be meaningless.
  3. Kimbrel gets his first Cub strikeout on a pitch several inches outside. If he’s going to get those calls you might as well hand the Cubs the pennant. The ump really Frank Drebbined that one. I think one of the best arguments in favor of an automated strike zone if it’s even close to as accurate as the umps is that it eliminates certain hitters and pitchers and home crowds getting favorable treatment.
  4. That’s the MO. Lose the first two games of a series against a crappy team and then salvage one with Hader having to go two innings to nail it down. Thus making it harder to win the first game of the next series. The two Pirates series represent the Brewers only series wins out of their last 13. If they lose 2 or 3 to the Pirates this weekend we’ll know for sure they are fading. The Pirates will be coming in after scoring 24 runs in their last two wins over the Astros, and they have a lefty lined up to win Sunday’s game. Might be tough for the Brewers to win one.
  5. I know a lot of people (especially Badger fans) love LePay, but there’s something about his halting voice cadence that has a “nails on chalkboard” effect on me. Fortunately for me I don’t pay that much attention to the TV commentary anyway.
  6. "Were you there when Travis Shaw hit a home run?" Obscure Lambeau Field scoreboard video reference. Actually, yes I was. Just one part of my remarkable 8 game winning streak this season
  7. The Brewers are 10-7 in games Pina has started. Considering the team’s overall record he can’t he hurting the team THAT much when he plays. Sure, he’s been terrible in his occasional pinch hitting appearances, but that’s probably going to be the case for most backup catchers, who are usually on the roster because they can handle the position. On the list of the Brewers problems, Pina as the backup catcher isn’t in my top 10.
  8. This has to be Yelich’s worst stretch of 4 games since before the All Star break last year. Not only has he had just one hit, but most of his ABs have been K’s or rolled over grounders to the right side.
  9. March 31st That was one of the wins that make up my astounding 8-0 record for the season for games attended.
  10. Can we stop with the argument that this is just a bump. After starting the season 8-2, the Brewers have gone 34-36 in their next 70 games with a run differential of -10. This is almost half a season of decidedly mediocre baseball that is trending toward the negative while playing some of the worst teams in MLB. Trying to salvage a game in a series after losing the first two series after series is notbthe sigh of a playoff contender.
  11. That mindset is common. Everyone else is underperforming too so we are only a game out. Nevermind the fact that the team is playing terribly every series and they are constantly down big early on. Don’t worry about it... everything is right where it needs to be. Not to mention that the Cubs have been losing games to the likes of the Rockies, Dodgers, and Braves while the Brewers have been losing to the Marlins, Giants, Padres, Reds, and Mariners. Looking at the schedule one might have thought this would have been a chance for the Brewers to gain some ground, but instead they are falling back with no sign of the pitching stabilizing.
  12. Ho hum. Another day and another instant hole to a team with a losing record.
  13. The 2018 team sat at 46-33 at this point last year. The 2019 team sits at 42-37 currently. It's a four game difference. The current team is playing pretty poorly right now, but are only one hot streak away from being on a similar pace to last year's squad. I won't deny that there are reasons for concern, but to write off a team that is right in the thick of things record wise (despite the poor play recently), and has 83 more games to play this year, is hyperbole at best in my opinion. They are one hot streak away from catching up to the pace of last year’s team, but then will need a torrid streak somewhere to keep pace. It’s hard to see a sustained hot streak, much less a torrid streak, unless there is dramatic improvement in the starting pitching. And it’s also hard to see where that dramatic improvement is going to come now that everyone except Woodruff seems to be backsliding. The Brewers have won very few games in the last several weeks without a great start from Woodruff and/or two strong innings from Hader. It’s hard to win series with those limitations. Except for Hader, the rest of the bullpen is getting overused just trying to keep the constant early deficits from getting worse.
  14. We’re talking about players being “released”, some of which had no contractual ties to the Brewers. There’s a big difference between “releasing” a player who is under contract to the team, and not re-signing a player who is a free agent.
  15. Yelich is showing signs of going into his first slump in almost a year.
  16. That’s been the story in many games in the last few weeks.
  17. The Mariners are going to threaten the Marlins run parade at Miller Park. A short, ineffective start is just what the Brewers needed with a bullpen game on tap for tomorrow. Let’s burn out the bullpen in the first two days of a 13 game stretch with no off days.
  18. Maybe it has to do with the fact that he’s gotten shelled more often than not over the last month. But, there’s no reason to worry about putting the team in early holes and getting short starts in 80% of the games. The Brewers starting pitching is just fine and they are perfectly positioned for a strong second half of the season. It has become customary for the Brewers to drop the first game or two in virtually every series, especially against lousy teams. This one is pointed in the same direction.
  19. With the season almost half over, and all but two teams in the NL within 3.5 games of a playoff spot, would you say you are more or less optimistic/hopeful about the Brewers’ playoff chances than you were at the start of the season? I have to go with less optimistic mainly because of the glaring problems with the pitching staff, especially the starters. I don’t think anyone can argue with a straight face that the frequency of short starts can’t continue, and it’s hard to see where the needed improvement is going to come from. The offense has its holes too, with Shaw, Aguilar, and Cain all showing no signs of returning even to the lower end of what was expected from them. Hiura’s return might help some, but the offense has been too dependent on Yelich, Moustakas, and Grandal, and needs others to step up if any of them have injuries or cold streaks. The plus one run differential hints at a team that is playing at a level closer to a .500 team than one that can win the 90 games that will probably be needed to make the playoffs. The playoff hopes likely hinge on whether the Brewers are able to make a personnel move or two to firm up the roster for the stretch run.
  20. Brewers have to find a way to win some games without needing Hader for two innings. Maybe Woodruff can go deep tomorrow and the offense can provide a comfortable lead. I’ll be going tomorrow as part of our 10 pack, and I’m 7-0 so far this year.
  21. With their win today the Cardinals are tied with the Brewers. They were 5 games behind just over a week ago.
  22. Well, that gets the three hitters in the lineup out of the way. Now let’s see if they can nurse across another run.
  23. It’s looking very possible that the Brewers will be in 4th place in the division by the All Star break.
  24. Changing the batting order didn’t do anything to stop the flood of first inning runs by the opponent. The Brewers could go an entire 4 game series being behind every time they come to bat.
