  1. Are you a Cubs fan? While recognizing the Brewers 6 wins in a row, the Cubs winning 9 of their last 10 and 16 of their last 20 is more impressive. Bryant and Rizzo are smoking hot on the Cubs current homestand. The Brewers pitchers are going to be facing a much different challenge than they have faced the last 6 games.
  2. I doubt Shaw is going anywhere but the bench for the time being. I've been wrong before when it comes to player moves, tough. As usual the Cubs have their 3 lefties lined up to face the Brewers, so I suspect Shaw will be out of the starting lineup this weekend. He looks as lost as a hitter can be.
  3. And on the flip side of that the Nationals have to fly to LA after the game for a series against the Dodgers starting tomorrow. But to be fair it seems like the Nationals have played this entire series with a get-away day lineup. Losing Turner, Soto, Zimmerman, and Adams (and Rendon on Monday) definitely takes a bite out of their lineup. Great opportunity to pick up some wins against a team while it’s sown. I’m going to the game too and hoping they can generate some offense against a starter not named Scherzer, Strasburg, or Corbin.
  4. I think the bigger problem with the Nationals is having several of their top players (Turner, Rendon, Soto, Zimmerman, and Adams to name a few) out with injuries. Taylor just returned from injury in mid game yesterday and Rendon is back in the lineup tonight. The Brewers have to take advantage of the opportunity to beat a team that is at far less than full strength.
  5. If you told me the Brewers were going to score 10 runs in 3 games (including one that goes 18 innings) I sure wouldn’t have expected a sweep. Good to see the pitching step up when they’re not playing one of the top hitting teams in the league. Now on to the Nationals who have a number of their best position players out with injuries. Have to find a way to scratch out some runs against Scherzer and Strasburg and shut down their banged up lineup. Is it just me, or has Yelich been so phenomenal the last 4 months that when he goes 1 for 4 with a 2 run HR it almost seems like he didn’t have a good day because he made out 3 times?
  6. He just looks like he’s dipping his shoulders, feeling for the ball, and producing almost nothing but weak pop ups. Obviously the couple of home runs last week were not a sign of snapping out of his funk.
  7. Have to hold your breath on Cain. That’s the kind of HBP that breaks hands and puts a guy out for a couple of months.
  8. I would have been shocked if Braun hadn’t been in the lineup against a lefty and after getting 9 hits the last two days. He can have off tomorrow against Scherzer and then get another off day on Thursday.
  9. I was actually at the game tonight with two of my daughters (adults), but, as much as they enjoy going to games they won’t stay for extra innings. I’ve stayed for some pretty long ones over the years but never one this long.
  10. A complete waste of a good pitching outing. No ability to advance runners or get a hit with a runner in scoring position and some horrible baserunning.
  11. Most of these guys won't bring back anything. But this is just a silly discussion in genera. there is nothing about this season that suggest we are selling other than happening to have 2 bad games in a row that people are overreacting to because they are silly. I don’t think the concerns are based on two bad games in a row. They are based on losing 15 of the last 25 with literally the worst pitching in the NL (and no obvious help on the horizon) and an average offense.
  12. This game was a likely loss as soon as Anderson was scratched. The chances of having 6 or 7 relievers hold any opponent within striking distance are pretty low. It’s going to be tough for the next few days with more short starts on the horizon.
  13. This one may be over almost before it starts and could cause ripples for the next few days.
  14. That hurts. Will have to burn up 5 or 6 relievers or more with no off days for a week. More roster moves coming tomorrow, probably including Anderson to the DL.
  15. The bullpen is undeniably pathetic, but to be fair they expected to have a healthy Knebel, a healthy and reasonably effective Jeffress, and a healthy Wahl, who I think they saw as possibly their 4th best option. When you have to slot everyone up 2 or 3 spaces in the pecking order there are likely to be problems. Even then, the Brewers still have not blown many (any?) late inning leads. The starting pitching is every bit as much of a problem as the bullpen and the hitting has not been close to the elite level we had reason to expect.
  16. What do you do with him? Especially now that it looks like Yelich might be out for awhile the Brewers can’t afford that complete black hole in the batting order. He’s not going to get better sitting on the bench, but they can’t send him to the minors and can’t play him regularly. Unfortunately, thanking him for his service and great half season but letting him go may have to be considered if he doesn’t contribute something before too long.
  17. We wondered where the Brewers would be without Yelich. We’re about to find out in this next homestand.
