  1. Man, this offense is putrid. 2 runs isn’t going to win many games, and that’s all they’ve gotten in each of their last 5 games against the Cardinals (4 losses and a 2-1 win on two Aguilar HRs). Bold prediction: if the Brewers don’t score more than two runs today, they lose.
  2. If not today, the Brewers have to stop the bleeding soon and string together some wins and winning series. After today they have two series against the Reds (with Votto on the DL for at least the first one) sandwiched around a home series against the Pirates, who are slipping again. If they don’t pick up at least 5 or 6 wins in those games it’s going to get really hard to believe that a turnaround is coming.
  3. Coming into tonight they were 4th in the NL with 97. The “top” 3 had 100, 99, and 98 and fewest was 71. Thanks. Close enough to the top. The Pirates hit into SEVEN DPs tonight while dropping their second straight 1-0 game to the Cubs.
  4. Counsell must get a bonus if he can get through a game without using any of his top relievers.
  5. This is ridiculous. Don’t want to give the team a chance to come back in the 9th.
  6. Coming into tonight they were 4th in the NL with 97. The “top” 3 had 100, 99, and 98 and fewest was 71.
  7. Was that poll taken on May 31? The article is dated 8/17/18. I saw that, but that’s a different question. Regardless, you have to wonder if it was taken when the Brewers had the best record in the NL.
  8. Remember when people thought Cole Hamels wouldn’t help the Cubs?
  9. Playing Thames in the outfield almost ended the Brewers season.
  10. The batting order looks good, but the defensive lineup makes me nervous, especially against a team with some speed that puts pressure on the defense.
  11. Regardless of whether the Brewers had a shot at Ramos (who would have been a nice addition, especially if Pina is headed for the DL) it’s another example of other playoff contenders doing more to improve their teams than the Brewers have.
  12. Matt Carpenter just got hit in the wrist by a pitch and walked right to the dugout with the trainer.
  13. I agree with the criticism of Counsell for not pinch hitting for Guerra considering all of the circumstances, including the pivotal nature of the game, Guerra’s early struggles, and the off days.
  14. Pretty sure that is the relief pitcher's guy at that point. Pitcher is only responsible for batters he personally allows on base. The run would be charged to the first pitcher. The official scoring rules (10.16(g)) say that when pitchers are changed during an inning, a relief pitcher is not charged for any run scored by a runner who was on base when the reliever entered the game, or by any runner who reaches base on a fielder’s choice that puts out a runner left on base by any preceding pitcher.
  15. The rule is, and I think what Schroeder has said correctly, that a foul tip must hit the catcher’s glove or hand first to be legally caught. If it does hit his glove or hand first he can juggle it, or have it hit other pieces of equipment and still be legally caught.
  16. Four straight ninth inning losses for the Dodgers since Jansen went out.
  17. It hasn’t taken long for the Dodgers to feel the impact of Kenley Jansen’s absence, as they have lost 3 straight games in the 9th inning, 2 of them with blown saves. After picking up Machado and Dozier it looked like the Dodgers would be the favorite to win the west or at least get one of the wild card spots. Their status is more shaky. Meanwhile, the Braves show the advantage they and the Phillies will have with games against the torn down Marlins as they waltz to a doubleheader sweep.
  18. Cubs put the capper on a “perfect” day.
  19. While the Brewers have lost 7 of their last 11, the Cardinals have won 9 of their last 11 to pick up 5 games and pull within 2.5 of the Brewers. Tough week coming up.
  20. There’s a creative way for a relief pitcher to give up a run. At least Barnes bailed himself out.
  21. It looked like he was looking back at the batter more than trying to get to second as fast as possible.
  22. Three times in one week to have to hear “Relax, it’s just one game”.
