  1. The Dodgers really have the knack for controlling Yelich by pounding him inside and making him jam himself.
  2. So, Hill and Ryu are hurt, and Kershaw won’t be making his season debut until next week, but the Dodgers are still able to find lefties to throw at the Brewers. Why do they have a seemingly endless supply of southpaw starters, but the Brewers can’t come up with one?
  3. My argument isn't using him vs lefties, my argument is that he should not be hitting clean-up until he proves he can hit. He has hurt us countless times this season. Our line-up is good enough that we don't have to have a struggling hitter batting 4th. Drop him until he figures some things out. The problem is that who are you going to make a case for being a better option there right now against a LHP? Perez? I think you could make a case for Grandal, but that's about it. I would make the case for Grandal, and the fact that he’s a switch hitter makes it even better for when the Dodgers go to the bullpen.
  4. Yelich continues to look “off” at the plate. As Schroeder just said, he’s a good enough hitter to dump in a hit once in awhile even when he isn’t swinging well, but he’s been taking some bad swings at some bad pitches.
  5. The thought of this pitching staff playing 13 games in 13 days against the Dodgers and Cardinals is really scary. Could be looking at over 100 runs in those games.
  6. He went 2-4 last night and was robbed of a HR. Yea, bur he rolled it over twice tonight= Yelich mini-slump When you watch a team every day and see everybat bat you can see the difference between a guy who is really seeing the ball and getting consistently good contact and one who isn’t. It isn’t just measured by getting an occasional hit. My observation has been that since the opening weekend Yelich has been swinging at more bad pitches, swinging and missing more, and rolling over more balls. I would bet he would say the same thing. Nobody can be as hot as he was for the last 2 1/2 months last year all of the time, and right now he is not in that kind of groove. He isn’t in the kind of funk that Aguilar and Shaw are in, at least not yet. But when he strikes out 3 times in a game against mediocre right handed pitchers, it stands out.
  7. After all of the offseason hoopla, including the awards circuit and the California Strong things, I expected Yelich to get off to a slow start this season. Wrong. But, he has been long overdue for at least a mini slump, and there are signs that he is getting into it now.
  8. Looks like I’ll be able to get to bed early tonight. No need to watch the Angels pile on the back end of the bullpen.
  9. Aguilar’s problems have made Shaw’s struggles less obvious. It would really help to get some more production out of the middle of the order.
  10. Thank you for this gem! On another note, I don’t think Aguilar has too long of a leash at first this season. Thames isn’t much better of an option, but if he’s hitting well right now, you need to play him. Thames has done nothing in his few starts. I think all of his hits have come as a pinch hitter. The Brewers might as well be using Chris Davis at first base for the offensive production they are getting from the position.
  11. Disappointing performance from the offense last night. Not much traffic on the bases and Aguilar continues to be a black hole in the middle of the order.
  12. Great to get the series win over the Cubs. Hader is unbelievable, but they can’t ride him this hard for the whole season. I would be surprised if he appears at all against the Angels. Obviously it will depend on how Wednesday’s game plays out.
  13. The food news is Hader getting Bryant and Rizzo to get out of the seventh. The bad news is there won’t be anyone to get out of the ninth. Need 3 or 4 more runs.
  14. Ordinarily I might expect Braun to get a day off, but with 2 HRs in two days I hope he’s in the lineup. Also thought Grandal might get a day off this weekend, but last night would have made more sense. Expect to see Thames at 1B to see if he can continue the momentum from his two pinch hit HRs. Really hoping for, but not expecting, a strong outing from Davies. Probably will have to outscore them in a slugfest to win the series. ETA: Now that the lineup is out, I’m disappointed to see the “Sunday lineup” for a rubber game against the Cubs where it’s probaly going to take at least 10 runs to win. I don’t see the Cubs resting any of their best hitters. At least the Brewers Sunday lineup these days is a lot better than it used to be. AAnd they will have some fire power off the bench.
  15. The Brewers pitching is going to be a work in progress. Through the offseason they expected to have Jeffress, Knebel, and Wahl in the bullpen, and it’s hard to absorb losing all 3 of them, 2 for the season. The starters have to do their share too. The 4 and 5 inning starts don’t help.
  16. Looks like the Cubs and Brewers have one decent relief pitcher between them.
  17. Need a shutdown inning now and really put the pressure on the Cubs bullpen.
  18. This is a good example of why my daughters and I won’t go to Cubs games. I’d rather sell the tickets on our 10 pack for twice what we pay and go to two games that would be more enjoyable.
  19. If you’re going to lose, might as well get blown out and not use your best relievers trying to chase a win. By the time this is over the Brewers might have a negative run differential for the season.
