  1. It’s pretty sad when one guy hitting a home run is the only hope of scoring.
  2. CC got away with leaving Guerra in, but scoring against Ottavino is going to be tough. Davis blew a save against the Cardinals yesterday so maybe they can get to him.
  3. It may not be a Home Run Derby jinx, but I really think the whole All Star thing, including the campaigning for the final spot and the attention that got, then participating in all of the All Star activities, put him out of whack. I don’t think it’s poor coincidence that he peaked the day the All Star lineups were announced and the campaigning began. It seems like his regression started before the Home Run Derby. I don't have the stats, but I think his regression started the day he was named the voted in All-Star. That’s about it. He had a really bad series in Pittsburgh, like everyone else.
  4. I question leaving Guerra in here. The ironclad policy of never bringing in one of the top relievers when the team is behind has cost the Brewers a few times before.

  6. I don't know if it was last night or the night before, but Rock was singing his praises, calling him "such a great coach!" I think I actually started arguing with my TV. Schroeder is a company shill. You can’t take anything he says too seriously.
  7. Schoop looks as lost at the plate as Arcia. No reason to throw him strikes.
  8. Putting Schoop at SS is a gamble after he kicked that routine grounder yesterday and has seemed so out of sorts at the plate. If he boots anything today and doesn’t produce at the plate he could be hearing boos in his first home game. Not good for someone who didn’t seem that excited about the trade in the first place. I have my fingers and toes crossed that he does something positive quickly.
  9. This was after I had tuned out and gone to bed. Looks like some of the players had tuned out too. Braun is the guilty party on this one, but there were some pretty lazy/tired plays by others even earlier in the game.
  10. I went to bed in the 7th inning last night and could only laugh when I saw the final score and what happened after I tuned out. When I said before the game that I thought it had the makings of a “sacrifice game” I didn’t expect that it would go beyond that into being a total farce. Now we wait to see what moves the Brewers make today to add some pitchers to cover innings in case Guerra has another short start tonight. Albers going on the DL with some mystery ailment wouldn’t be a surprise, but they might have to option Williams out too. Even Perez and Kratz need a night off.
  11. At least the game won’t be a total loss if Aguilar can get going again.
  12. Since he's signed for next year, best course is just to DL him until rosters expand. Then you get at least spring training to see if he gets back into shape (pitching-wise). If they let him go any longer tonight they won’t be lying when they say he has a sore arm. Also a sore neck from watching balls sail out of the park.
  13. It’s not impossible for someone like me who was around in the 50’s. Their MVP was a guy who came up with the Yankees about the same time as Mickey Mantle and was later traded to the Sox. He was known at the time as the only guy to play in both the World Series and the Rose Bowl. He probably still holds that distinction. ETA- As others have said while I was posting this, it was Jackie Jensen. Well sorry for assuming, cool stat As I post this I am looking at a 1959 Topps baseball card of Jackie Jensen that describes on the back his 1958 MVP season.

  15. Except for the guys who have to cover the last 4 innings tonight.
  16. Brewers are looking like they’re ready to head home.
  17. Schoop could hardly look worse at the plate. At least he can beat up the catcher. I’m guessing he won’t be batting cleanup tomorrow.
  18. I'm thoroughly convinced Arcia just doesn't pay attention to the coaches. There's no way they could be ok with his approach. He has zero hope. He was successful last year when he tried to hit the ball up the middle and to right center. They must be trying to get him to do that, but he still swings from the heels with his front leg stepping toward the third base dugout.
  19. So, Yelich is getting the start against Kershaw and it’s Shaw at 3B and Moustakas sitting. It’s one of those games that you cling to “anything can happen in baseball” because the matchup looks pretty bad. Facing Kershaw at twilight could be brutal; Beethoven’s Fifth could be getting a real workout.
  20. The way it has been going the less day games the better. Unless I’m missing something, the Brewers have lost their last 8 road getaway games.
  21. Why Moose? He hits lefties better than righties? Definately sit Shaw against any lefty till he knows how to wear big boy pants against them. Thames needs to sit. he is almost just as awful against lefties. Id start with those 2 sitting. We just have to deal with Aguilar who is killing us. He is distraught and swinging at ghost. The only reason to give Moustakas the day off is because he has been playing every day and Shaw hasn’t. We all know that Counsell likes to give the members of the “position player group” a day off every so often and that it isn’t always a matter of playing the best players. So, I would like to see Moustakas play too, but I don’t know what Counsell will do.
