  1. This is all fair, but Hader has given up 3 homers. Lets let the season play out a while before we declare him a gopher ball in waiting. All I’m really saying here is that, from a fan’s perspective, it’s harder to think that bringing in Hader is totally comforting when he has given up home runs in 3 straight appearances and had one pulled back from over the fence in another appearance (on Opening Day).
  2. This game is a vintage example of why some fans are seriously concerned about this season. Last year if the Brewers had almost any kind of lead in the late innings you could be reasonably confident they could pull it out. Now you can’t be comfortable with any lead, even against a relatively mediocre offensive team. With starters who rarely get into the sixth inning it’s usually going to take 4 pitchers to close things out, and none of them are consistently reliable, even Hader who has turned into a home run waiting to happen.
  3. Now that the hard part of the Brewers schedule is over they can look forward to getting straightened out against deGrom and Syndegard. .
  4. I agree the game has changed, but the Brewers are still dead last in innings per start. The amount of innings our bullpen is eating up is a concern given the lack of top end arms in said bullpen. This really shouldn't be a question given our starters ERA is a shade under double digits... but .... who's spot in the rotation does he take? Davies and Chacin are probably locked in the rotation right now. That leaves Woodruff, Anderson, and Peralta. If Anderson throws the ball well tomorrow again, would they take another one of the young arms out of the rotation? Being last in innings pitched by starters isn’t necessarily a problem by itself, but in the Brewers’ case it’s not just short starts but the number of runs given up in those short starts. They aren’t just dumping a big workload on the bullpen but putting the team in holes that the offense can’t overcome even if the bullpen shuts down the opponent.
  5. Strongly agree. Do we actually have anyone better than Jeffress in the bullpen? Hader maybe. Anyone else? The Brewers haven’t exactly had leads to protect in the late innings since he’s come back and got his couple of low leverage outings out of the way.
  6. There’s no way to put lipstick on this pig. The Brewers pitching staff is one of the worst in MLB and the home run or nothing offense isn’t enough to overcome it. When they said before the season that this was a whole new year they weren’t kidding. Last year’s team did well for 3 months mainly because of a lockdown bullpen, staggered for awhile when the pitching started to crack, and then finished strong when they were able to hide the pitching weakness with the expanded roster. Now the bullpen is a weak imitation of what it was last year, and the plan of throwing out a rotation featuring 3 young, unproven starters is turning out to be a massive fail that is compounded by the weaker bullpen. It is looking like 2019 is going to be a lot like 2012 where the team had to finish strong to reach .500, mainly because of awful pitching. Even if the offense perks up from its recent slump I don’t think it’s going to be near enough to keep pace with the Cardinals and Cubs and their much superior pitching and potent batting orders.
  7. The Brewers have now completely undone their 7-1 start as the Cardinals have cruised past them and the Cubs have caught them after their bad first week.
  8. In addition to the easier schedule, it is possible that Castillo, Roark, and Sonny Gray are better pitchers than the Brewers have without regard to coaching.
  9. And that’s as high as he will ever get. oh? I guess I should have looked at the list before I posted that because I thought Molitor had more than 2281 of his career hits for the Brewers. But I would still bet against Braun getting 465 more hits for the Brewers. Between advancing age, injuries, and declining skills that will take him the better part of 4 seasons or more.
  10. I’ll take my chances with another postseason appearance. The Dodgers have a significantly better and deeper roster than the Brewers, especially when their starting pitchers are healthy. But, I don’t consider a record of 11-9 over the last 2 seasons, counting the NLCS, to be “ownership”.
  11. I have really mixed feelings about using Hader in the ninth of a tie game. May be going all in on this one while making him unavailable for the Cardinals series and there’s no guarantee the Brewers will score again.
  12. Aguilar swings at a 2-0 pitch out of the strike zone to kill the budding rally. There is a point where you need some offense out of that position.
  13. Ouch. Second time in this series the Brewers botched a golden opportunity to get Yelich up as the tying run.
  14. Coming into the season I thought this would be a lineup that would challenge pitchers pretty much top to bottom. As players cycled through slumps there would be others to pick them up. That certainly hasn’t been the case in a lot of games as 3 of the presumptive strong spots have contributed well below expectations.
  15. Wow. Second game on our 10 pack tonight. The first was the Sunday against the Cardinals with Yelich’s walk off double, so we’ve seen some good moments this year. So now the worst the Brewers can be against the Dodgers for the year is 3-4, which isn’t too bad. When they get their pitching staff healthy they have by far the best and deepest 25 man roster in the NL. They could (should?) win that division by 20 games unless the Rockies can put up a fight. Good to see someone other than Yelich get a big hit, but the lineup is still scuffling as a whole. It’s hard to tell if Aguilar or Shaw is in a deeper funk. Braun isn’t much better, but the 3 run HR gives him a pass for the night. That brought him up to 4 for his last 39.
  16. On the other hand, the way the Brewers offense (minus Yelich) is hitting they are a perfect tonic for a struggling pitcher. They are striking out at an alarming rate.
  17. The Brewers have wiped out the edge from the 7-1 start. In the ups and downs of the season hopefully this will be a short down, but it's rough when the starting pitching, bullpen, and hitting all slump at the same time.
