  1. At a minimum, Milwaukee is unable to pay premium salaries for "proven mediocrity" when we have plenty of less proven options available that provide equal or better outcomes with upside.
  2. So did Adrian Houser, before cratering in New York in 2024. To his credit, Houser found himself in 2025 and turned his performance into a ‘legitimate fifth starter’ option for San Francisco on $22 M deal, two years. I can only dream of one day being considered ‘a legitimate fifth starter option’ 🙂
  3. Like David Ortiz or Manny Ramirez? 🤷‍♂️ I understand we would love a brand name slugger. I don’t think one year rental of Peralta gets us there, though.
  4. AAAA teams don’t win 97 games. It’s hard to see our stars leave but there is nothing shrewd or noble about paying a pitcher $100+M that will turn 30 this season. Milwaukee receives up to 12 seasons (combined) of Williams and Sproat in exchange for 30 starts from Peralta. The Brewers are still well positioned to win the division. The Dodgers are everybody’s problem and won’t be solved this week.
  5. Our # 3 starter for Nashville and one year of Peralta for two good prospects will probably work out okay for Milwaukee.
  6. ‘In talks’ and ‘agreed to trade’ seem like different things. 🤷‍♂️
  7. Yes, 100% national noise. Not necessarily to rile up Brewers fans, though. The Brewers won’t be able to resign Peralta but that doesn’t mean Milwaukee needs to miss out on an $8 million season that will likely include 200 strikeouts and 175 IP.
  8. Players injured during WBC have their salary paid for by separate insurance policy. https://www.nbcsportsphiladelphia.com/mlb/philadelphia-phillies/what-happens-to-mlb-contract-if-player-gets-injured-during-wbc/271425/
  9. Jones is a 10x gold glove winner with a 7-year peak WAR that compares favorably to many HoF center fielders. https://www.baseball-reference.com/leaders/jaws_CF.shtml Beltran was 9x All Star and compares favorably to Jones.
  10. I want to extend praise for our Brewer Fanatic community, who, all things considered, have handled a quiet offseason very well. I remember way fewer instances of pitch forks insisting on needle movers.. Perhaps, that’s good or perhaps we just accept free agency isn’t really for Milwaukee. Plus, we won 97 games last year. 🤷‍♂️
  11. All of the Peralta trade rumors seem essentially that Milwaukee is answering the phone. That is different than Milwaukee actively shopping Peralta.
  12. ‘Moving toward’ trading someone could mean simply answering the Yankees’ phone calls.
  13. We probably have enough near term prospects at most positions except outfield. Let’s win 95+ games again and take our draft pick.
  14. But are the 2026 Cubs actually better than last year’s version?
  15. Bregman is less valuable than Kyle Tucker. $35 million per season is a lot for an aging third baseman. Arenado’s performance declined at age 32. Bregman turns 32 in March.
  16. Is the Matt Shaw era over? Kyle Tucker provides more WAR than Bregman. I don’t mind Chicago paying $35 million per season for the twilight of Bregman’s career.
  17. Contreras had 3.7 bWAR in 2023 and 4.9 bWAR in 2024. If he somehow managed 6+ WAR in 2025, the $12 million option likely makes good sense. In any case, Milwaukee simply declined the option. Little harm done.
  18. I wonder how Contreras’ arbitration ask compares to the $12 million option.
  19. I nominate Hernán Iribarren for second baseman. Otherwise, a fun piece to read!
  20. I think they do keep Freddy. He seems to like being in Milwaukee just like Adames, who also was not traded. Burnes burned bridges during arbitration and likely didn’t have goodwill with the organization. Closers are almost always replaceable.
  21. Elbow concerns and career FIP of 4.45. 🤷‍♂️
  22. Is betonline.ag a credible source of information?
  23. Garrett Mitchell had 124 OPS+ over 224 PA in 2024. If he gets injured again, Milwaukee could conceivably trade for a replacement midseason. Joey Ortiz could regain his 102 OPS+ from 2024. We have a ton of SS in the pipeline. Not sure who the Brewers would obviously replace from their 97 win roster that wouldn’t block a top prospect in another year or two.
  24. Signing expensive or moderately priced free agents has rarely worked out well for Milwaukee the past 25 years. We have so many shortstops coming up in the system. I suppose if we could get a stud outfielder via trade, that would be nice.
  25. I think Milwaukee runs it back in 2026 with similar roster, presumably greater health and development from our pre-arbitration players.
