    Matt’s point makes sense. If the Brewers swung more, umpires would be less relevant. Since the Brewers take a lot of pitches, umpires are forced to call balls and strikes more often. Since umpires are human, they will make mistakes more often for and against Milwaukee.

    To me, the smarter path seems to be throw your two best starters to open the series. Bank the off day. Then consider bullpenning game 3 due to the off day. Gasser/May short-leash piggyback for game 4. Then Miz on full rest game 5, if necessary. Henderson on full rest to start game one next series.

    Hall, Patrick, Ashby can all go two innings. That’s a pretty good ‘bullpen game’ in lieu of a # 4 starter.

    What is FanGraphs looking at that simultaneously makes it an outlier and seemingly the closest to ‘reality’ ? I can’t imagine what PECOTA sees in Tampa more than Milwaukee.

    That’s fair. At the same time, it’s easier to imagine Suzuki, Bregman, etc taking Miz deep in game 1 and having thousands of Cubs fans get loud. It’s happened in 2026, even though Miz has been very effective against Chicago. It is more difficult to imagine Austin Hays or Gavin Sheets giving us fits. Or, Padre fans wreaking havoc and turning the momentum in a game. I recognize San Diego has plenty of stars, too.

    Miz could really only pitch games 1 and 5 in NLDS. Could either throw Gasser in game 3 or 4. Could bullpen game 3 or 4, too. Hall for 2 Patrick for 2 Ashby for 2. Senz then Uribe then Megill

    For September: Brewers and Padres are both 18-6. Cubs are 11-13. Padres have # 1 OPS. Brewers are # 3 OPS. Cubs are # 17 OPS. source Brewers have # 7 ERA. Cubs have # 15 ERA. Padres have # 21 ERA. source Cub fans at American Family Field and Wrigley are an important X factor.

    I'll take the Padres. We got swept at Petco but two of the games were just by one run. Plus, our stadium is not likely to have thousands of people traveling from San Diego.

    I remember the Brewers winter road show after 2002 season. Milwaukee was 50 games under .500 and I think I got to meet Wayne Franklin. This season is different. What a difference the past two decades.

    I just realized Turang’s September OPS is over 1.100. Seems like the slump is over.

    The real fans are waiting to see if Turang can improve his weighted on base average above .360. More importantly, his expected weighted on base average above .345 🙂

    Harrison will be on the playoff roster. I think the Brewers are smart enough to have someone warming up behind him. Miz was a mess the second half of last season. Harrison could either be very helpful or face a three batter minimum.

    Salvador Perez has barely been replacement level 3 of the past 4 seasons. Embarrassing.

    I also want to say Yelich is slightly above replacement level this season and Trea Turner is below replacement level and has seven more years remaining on his contract. Yelich has two years remaining. Signing aging veterans to long term deals is almost always painful. We should remember that every off season.
