Image courtesy of © Dave Kallmann / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images Here is a recap of three of the most popular thread topics on Brewer Fanatic's fan forums this week: Brewers: Pratt signs extension for 8/$50M We knew Cooper Pratt was excellent with the glove and ranked as the No. 4 prospect in the organization. He could also be considered the Brewers’ fourth-best shortstop in the minor leagues, behind Jesús Made, Luis Lara, and Jett Williams. That context made the news that Milwaukee will commit to Pratt through 2033 all the more surprising, shaking the Brewer Fanatic community in a variety of ways. The initial reaction was disbelief. Is this really happening? Why Pratt, and why now? It is clear the Brewers’ front office has conviction in Pratt’s continued development, even if his slash lines have yet to consistently impress since his time as a 19-year-old Mudcat. As always, the Brewer Fanatic community came together to make sense of both the near-term and long-term ripple effects of a move that could shape the organization for the next decade. Brewers: Challenge system approved! Automated balls and strikes are one of the most intriguing additions to the game this season. The system is new for players, coaches, umpires, and fans alike, and there is still a lot to learn about how strike zone challenges will actually play out. When are the optimal times to challenge a call? What unintended consequences might come from a semi-automated zone? Will our thinking on swing planes or launch angles evolve as pitchers adjust to a new form of umpiring? The Brewers have already tried to get ahead of the curve, exploring ways to help players identify the right moments to challenge, though MLB quickly shut that idea down. Still, the desire to gain an edge is clear, and this is exactly the kind of change where early adaptation could matter. Come share your reactions to the new ABS system and learn alongside the Brewer Fanatic community. Minors: 2026 Picks to Click What's better than Opening Day? Three Opening Days! The Wilson Warbirds, Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, and Biloxi Shuckers each begin their regular seasons tonight, showcasing the high-end talent throughout the Brewers’ minor league system. The Brewer Fanatic community is hard at work identifying the lesser-known prospects most likely to emerge in 2026. Want to impress your friends? Start by predicting that Eric Bitonti’s hit tool will begin to catch up with his plus-plus raw power in Appleton this season. There is no better place to follow the daily developments throughout the Milwaukee farm system than Brewer Fanatic! View full article

2026 Misc MLB News Thread

Yankees allowing one run per game without the benefit of their "good pitchers." Dodgers already lost twice and scoring fewer than four runs per game. Freeman, Betts, Hernandez, Tucker and Ohtani with slow starts with the bat. Yankees, Brewers and Marlins (?) tied with 5-1 records. -
The Royals send recently recalled right-hander Luinder Avila to the mound in game one. Michael Wacha was otherwise inline for the start but is scratched this weekend due to illness. Avila is 24 years old and was a member of Venezuela's WBC championship team. Avila had a strong debut last season as a reliever with 1.29 ERA, 2.14 FIP, 28.6 K% over 14 IP. I don't expect much length out of Avila tonight as his previous start in Omaha was only three innings. Chad Patrick made the first start of his career on April 1 last season against Kansas City. Patrick threw 4 2/3 scoreless innings while striking out 5 as the Brewers recorded their first win of the 2025 season. source Royals Keep

Pratt signs extension for 8/$50M

I don’t think players got mad at Peralta, Ashby or Chourio for their contracts. For all we know, the Brewers regularly reach out to their better player’s agents to ask if they would like to discuss win-win team friendly extensions. Miz’s agent would probably already say no to a team friendly extension. That’s not Milwaukee’s fault. -

If Milwaukee already controls Turang’s best years of his career, why would we want Turang when he is 35 years old? I always struggled to understand why we want expensive aging veterans, speaking in the future tense for Turang. I get the idea of buying out one or two years of free agency, but at this point it will probably be too expensive, which is fine. If we have a steady stream of infield prospects, we shouldn’t want hundred million dollar infielders.

As a follow-up to my original post about no team that allowed 10 or more home runs in their first five games with a 4-1 record ever finished the season above 500. It should be noted that the 2025 Brewers allowed 17 home runs in their first four games and won 97 games it’s all in how you define the parameters.

The Brewers allowed 10 home runs in the first five games while going 4-1. Only six other teams have done the same since 1961. The 2004 Detroit Tigers allowed 11 home runs and somehow started the season 4-1. Ominously, no team that started the season 4-1 while allowing 10 home runs or more has ever finished the year with a winning record. source

Right-hander Drew Rasmussen starts the rubber match for the Rays. Rasmussen was a former Brewer who was sent to Tampa in exchange for Willy Adames. This seems like one of the more win-win trades in recent memory. Brewers received: Adames (14 bWAR) Rays received: Rasmussen (11.1 bWAR) and Feyereisen (2 bWAR) If Rasmussen produces more than one win above replacement level this season then the Rays might seem like they come out a little ahead. However, Milwaukee also received Brady Ebel from the draft pick they acquired as compensation for losing Adames in free agency after he declined their qualifying offer. Rasmussen has one career start against the Brewers on 5/11/25, allowing 4 H, 3 ER, 2 HR, 1 BB with 3 K over 5 IP. Milwaukee beat Tampa Bay, 4-2. Rasmussen took the loss. Jacob Misiorowski makes his second start of the season for the Brewers. This will be Miz's first career appearance against Tampa Bay.

Left-hander Shane McClanahan makes his first big league start since August 2, 2023 after rehabbing from Tommy John surgery and a nerve issue in his left tricep. McClanahan has one career start against Milwaukee on May 19, 2023 throwing seven scoreless innings with 7 K and 1 BB. Brandon Woodruff makes his season debut for the Brewers. Woodruff has a 1.96 career ERA against the Rays over 18.1 innings and three starts. Woodruff's last start against Tampa was August 10, 2022.

If Isaiah Kiner-Falefa is worth $7.5 million per season the past two years 🤷♂️ -
I like having a place to observe the Cubs and discuss just how "electric" the Reds and Pirates are this season. Not sure how the Cardinals won their opening series. Cubs offense has been less explosive so far this season with OPS below .600 at five positions in the lineup. PCA with four singles through three games and .665 OPS. Busch, Bregman and Happ were the only bigger producers through three games. Carson Kelly was 1-7 but Miguel Amaya hit a HR on Saturday. 35-year old Matthew Boyd hasn't been very sharp since August 2025. I will be interested to see how Edward Cabrera performs tonight.

The Rays lost two close games in St. Louis in their opening series, salvaging the final game on Sunday. Tampa Bay sends right-hander Nick Martinez to open the series against Milwaukee. Martinez made three appearances last year against the Brewers, including two starts with a 7.71 ERA over 9.1 IP allowing 15 H and 3 BB while striking out 5 batters. Kyle Harrison makes his debut tonight for Milwaukee. Harrison made one start against Tampa Bay last season, 6 IP allowing 4 H, 2 BB, 1 ER while striking out 5 batters. The left-handed Harrison was a top 30 prospect in all of baseball entering the 2024 season before arriving to Milwaukee in the Caleb Durbin trade. The Brewers broke or tied three franchise records for most stolen bases (9), walks (22 - tie) and strikeouts recorded (43) over the first three games to start a season. I bet Perkins in center to give Garrett Mitchell a day off. Lockridge in LF. Bauers at 1B. Rengifo is better against LHP, he starts at 3B. Biggest question: will William get a day off from catching before Thursday? Yelich should only DH unless something major happens. It also would be OK to give Yelich a day off periodically.
