  1. Ohhh......I've clearly been out of the loop this afternoon! Had no idea! OK, good to know. Glad he's staying in the AL, and not going to the Cubs.
  2. Why wouldn't the Yankees just go sign Hader, instead of having to trade prospects away for Williams? It's not like the Yankees are strapped for $$.
  3. Please get desperate now O's.....and divert yourself from your normal strategies!
  4. I really didn't track Volpe's rookie season that closely. What is the overall consensus from those that did? I see that his overall WAR was 3.3, but then I took a look at some of his offensive numbers and I was less impressed. Again though...hard to put too much stock in a rookie season, especially for a kid playing under the bright lights of NY. Would the Yankees consider him "untouchable" in any deal?
  5. I mean....sign me up for this deal right now. Would seem to be a win/win type deal for both teams. Might be a lot for the Phils to give up in terms of prospect capital, but it also feels like their window to win is right now - and they probably need to do something big here to compete with the Dodgers, while also staying ahead of the Braves in their own division. Getting Painter and Abel would give us two stud pitching prospects to build around for our rotation in the years to come. You would just hope that one of them "hits" and becomes a legit ace in 2-3 years. Then, Aiden Miller would give us a high-upside corner IF prospect in a few years to add to that next "wave" of prospects coming up with Wilken, Lara, Pratt, Bitonti, Knoth, etc.
  6. Love seeing us get three of the Top 50 international prospects again this year - including the #12 ranked kid. Also love seeing us going after these athletic SS's that can also grow into different positions a few years down the road.
  7. What do we think it's going to take to sign Paxton? With his recent injury history, I can't imagine a team is going to give him more than a 1-year deal, right? While I'd love to take a flyer on someone like Paxton, I'm guessing a team that is more desperate (with deeper pockets) is going to offer him more $$ than what we'd be willing to risk on a guy like this.
  8. Yeah, I've been thinking about this as well over the past few weeks. IF we were to trade Burnes and maybe even Adames - you'd think at least that we'd then be able to be much more active in pursuing some of the available FA's. Not sure how in love I am with many of these available FA's this year, but if we could get potential impact MLB-ready players in return for Burnes and Adames and then go out and get someone like Jimenez, Hoskins, Rosario, etc.....I think we'd have the ability to field a competitive team in the NL Central - even as we continue to try to develop some of these younger guys on the roster (Chourio, Black, Sal, Mitchell, etc.).
  9. I like the creativity here, but I'm guessing that one of the Padres or the Giants would say "no" to this deal pretty quickly. According the trade simulator - the Brewers would be cleaning up with a deal like this. Also, I'm not sure if the Padres would be willing to give up their current big league SS and their future SS in the same deal here? Yes, maybe they would like to get out from under the big Bogaerts contract (not sure if they are/aren't?), but if they are - then I'd have to think Merrill would be off-limits for them in any type of a trade. Instead, I think we'd have to try to get a package of Snelling, Thorpe and Bergert.....and that's obviously not nearly as attractive as having Merrill coming back in the deal.
  10. I’ll defer to others here that might know more about these NY prospects, but this feels like more of a quantity package coming back instead of quality. Arias could turn into a stud in 2-3 years, but right now he’s a lotto ticket. Not real sure what the upside is on the three arms? Back of rotation guys??
  11. Yeah, the trade simulator definitely had my initial trade package working out just fine for both teams. In fact, it actually had the Phillies getting more value. Obviously, that's just due to the fact that it's not assigning a high value to Miller yet, since he was a HS kid just drafted this past summer. Guessing the Phils wouldn't want to give up two of their top 3-4 prospects in a deal, but I think they'd have to do that if they wanted to get both Burnes and Williams. Would definitely help them match up better against the mighty Dodgers over the next year or two.
  12. With the Dodgers going BIG this winter, will there be any desperation on the Phillies part to try to match them to a certain extent? They’ve got to be really hungry for a championship, no? Could we entice them with a Burnes and Williams offer? Would an Abel, Aiden Miller, McGarry and Kerkering package get it done on both sides? Or, does one side say no to that deal? Would Arnold want Painter instead of Abel?
  13. I’m not sure I’d call it “love?” But if we’re doing a deal with the Yankees, I think he’s got to be a 2nd or hopefully 3rd piece coming back, as we’d need to fill Burnes spot in the rotation with a MLB ready arm. Again, the Yanks would not be my first choice for a Burnes trade partner. May not even be my 2nd or third choice either.
  14. I’m with you 100% on this. It just makes WAY too much sense. O’s have an abundance of prospects at positions of need for us and I don’t think they’ll have room for all of these guys on their MLB club. Give us Mayo, Hall and one of Westburg/Ortiz/Norby for Burnes and Williams….and let’s get this done already!
  15. I’m just not sure if I’m in love with the Yankees farm system enough to trade them both Burnes AND Williams? If I’m Arnold, I think I’d need a major haul from them to even consider trading both of them. I’m talking Schmidt, Hampton, Warren and Arias. I might even force them to throw in Lilane to get the deal across the finish line?
  16. Good to know. Thanks for the insight, as I’m not overly educated on the tools and upside of the Yankee prospects. I have heard that Arias has big time potential down the road.
  17. Honestly though - if Dominguez is off limits in any deal with the Yankees, I think the Brewers would have to demand that Schmidt is in the deal, right? I'm only looking at the stats, but it appears that Peraza really struggled in his first real MLB action this past season. Anyone know if some of that is fixable? Would you still want him coming over in a deal for Burnes? How about Schmidt, Arias and Warren for Burnes?
  18. Again, just passing along what Badler said about Busch. He loves the bat and thinks he’d fit solidly at 1B. When he mentioned that he’d be a top half 1B in the league….he was talking about his rookie year next year. Didn’t get the sense that he was talking about his ceiling.
  19. Yeah, maybe we’d have to substitute Frasso or Stone in for Sheehan in this type of a deal? And I agree….not Friedman’s MO to make a deal like this, so maybe it is just a big pipe dream?
  20. I get what you’re saying. But, his whole point was that the Dodgers are clearly going all-in, so why not put the explanation point on it with a deal for both Burnes and Adames. It’s going to cost a team quite a bit to lure both of those guys from us. Busch is blocked in LA and Lux is coming back from injury. He didn’t mention Sheehan by name, but would the Dodgers really need him if they now were getting Burnes? Also….he talked about the depth of the LA system. Said that the guy they’ve got ranked 18th on their team prospect list would be ranked #1 on the Royals team list and maybe a few other team lists. Thats crazy! Point being though….they’ve got so much prospect depth that they can easily do a deal like this and they’ll just replenish these guys with the next wave of prospects coming up in their system.
  21. Anyone listen to the most recent Baseball America pod about the Dodgers? I think it was Ben Badler who mentioned that the Dodgers shouldn’t be done making moves, and suggested that they now trade for Burnes and Adames. He then stated that the Brewers should ask for Busch, Lux and any pitching prospect that they wanted in the system. He seemed to imply that we might be able to ask for one more in the deal too. With that in mind, how about Sheehan, Busch, Lux and Ryan for Burnes and Adames? I think I’d do this deal in a heartbeat! Also…he raved about Busch. Said we could play him at 1B and he’d instantly be one of the top 3-4 bats in our lineup, and would be a top 15 player at that position in MLB from the jump.
  22. Also, I know we could all probably argue with the complete legitimacy of the MLB Trade Simulator site, but when you enter each of these three trade scenarios into their program, it has Friedman murdering Arnold in all three. Take that FWIW, but just wanted to add that to the discussion here.
  23. I agree with what others have already said. If this is the very best that the Brewers can do in a deal for Burnes, then we might as well hold onto him. I know that he's a 1-year rental, but he is a TOR arm, and I've got to figure there's a team (whether it's LA or someone else) that would hopefully give up more than what any of these three packages include for Burnes.
  24. Yeah, MLB really needs to do something to make the offseason more exciting. Waiting around weeks/months for these big FA's to sign every year (which of course also slows down the trade market) is an awful experience for fans and overall excitement in the game. There has to be some way for them to fix this, right?
