  1. Not seeing any $$ reports yet on Burke. What do we think is realistic there? Can we get him underslot between $2-$2.2M? That would be a $400-$600K savings if we could. All of that would be very helpful as we try to sign a bunch of the HS guys from Day 2 and 3.
  2. This is obviously a moot point right now, since Luzardo is injured. But, if he had been healthy right now and on the market (as most expected he probably would have been), I'm guessing it would have taken this type of a package to get him: Mitchell or Frelick Quero Henderson or Wichrowski
  3. What? In what world would the Marlins do this deal?
  4. I agree with you - would much prefer Boeve or Lara going back to the Sox as the headliner in the deal, but I too think that gets beat out then from another team's offer. As you said though, Black is just a guy without a position for us right now. He could certainly fill in at 1B next year if Hoskins moves on, but you'd then be sacrificing some power at the 1B position - when you'd already be losing a lot of power with the departure of Adames at SS next year. On top of that, I think the organization is now really counting on Blake Burke being the 1B of the future, so I don't know if Black would have much of a future there beyond just next season (assuming of course that Burke pans out).
  5. Good stuff....thanks for posting. I had completely forgot that Fedde was the one that went to Korea and had great success over there for a year. Clearly, he has remade his entire pitching mechanics and pitches. So, what do we think it would realistically take to get him? With as high as the demand is this year again for SP at the deadline, I don't think it's realistic that a package of Wiemer, Patrick and EBJ will get it done (not to mention, Kopech in the deal as well). For a year and a half of Fedde (and a relatively cheap contract), I think it's probably going to take something like Black and Wichrowski. That's a Top 50-75 prospect in all of baseball, and a Top 10-15 prospect in our system going back to the Sox in this deal. Boy, that feels like a lot to give up for a year and a half of Fedde, but I fear that's what it would probably take for us to beat out other offers from other contending teams (we've already heard the Cards are interested in him).
  6. Yeah, you'd definitely need to add in a starter like Rogers in this deal if you are going to lure Black away from us. With that said though - I'm not sure what to make of Rogers? The guy was great his rookie season, but has put up very pedestrian numbers since that year. I think our FO would have to feel pretty damn confident that they could "fix" him if we're going to give up a Top 50 prospect like Black - where he would be the big piece coming our way.
  7. What do we know about Fedde and the changes that he's made this season? When I look at his career numbers, it's very clear that one season is a complete anomaly - and that's this year where he's had a ton of success. Since a team would be trading for 1.5 years of this guy (which also means more going back to the Sox in prospect capital), I think I'd want to feel REALLY good that Fedde has made some big changes to something in his pitching - whether it's more of a delivery change or perhaps his pitch-mix. Otherwise, you don't want to trade away a couple of good prospects for this guy, and watch him immediately go back to the 5+ ERA guy he was the first 4-5 years of his big league career.
  8. Agreed. If that's what it would take to get AJ Puk, a hard pass from me.
  9. Also, is it safe to assume that Levonas will sign for a very similar amount that Meccage signs for?
  10. What do we think here in terms of a dollar amount? Slot value is $1.56M I see. Do we think we sign him for something close to $2M?
  11. Hmmm....well, that sucks that he seems very committed to Florida.
  12. Yeah, I feel like we've got a much better shot at signing Broughton than we do Nunnallee, but I also think that our FO has done their homework here on these guys, and if they didn't think they could sign them - then I just can't imagine we'd be taking them here in the 13th and 14th rounds? Last year, we didn't sign our 17th, 18th and 19th rounders, but those were three of our final four picks.
  13. Nunnallee is ranked 200 on MLB Pipeline ranking with a commitment to UVA. Will be another tough sign I'd imagine, but again - hopefully we saved up plenty of money early on to get this guy in the fold!
  14. OK, so clearly we're going to have to go over-slot to sign Broughton. With our success rate at signing most of those later round HS guys last year, I've got to figure that we feel pretty good about having enough money to make that happen with him.
  15. At this stage, I'm guessing we didn't get the under-slot savings with the Payne/Burke picks that we had maybe hoped for in those first couple of rounds.
  16. Doesn't appear to be the "big" swing that any of us were hoping for.
  17. Nobody’s touching Ashby in a trade unless the Brewers are eating that entire contract.
  18. There are still a ton of HS guys on MLB Pipeline's Top 200 ranking that are available heading into Day 3. I would obviously assume that a decent number of these guys are fully committed to going the college route at this stage, but are there any names here that we think could be in play for an over-slot deal by the Brewers today: https://www.mlb.com/draft/tracker/2024/undrafted
  19. If my very quick research is accurate, all of these HS names remain on the board. I'll be a tad bit disappointed in this years draft class, if we don't at least try to over-slot sign one of these guys on day 3 tomorrow. Certainly feels like we should still have plenty of $$ left in the bonus pool to make a splash or two (or three) on Day 3 going after some of these remaining HS guys. Obviously, you still want to feel good about your ability to sign them, but if I'm understanding the system correctly - if we don't end up signing them, we'll only take a $150K hit in our bonus pool on the third day if they go unsigned.
  20. So, is that really a thing? You can officially withdraw your name? So, if a team were to offer him some crazy over-slot deal - he couldn't even take it if he changed his mind at the last minute and decided to go pro?
  21. Some interesting HS names that still remain on the board: William Schmidt (apparently told teams he's going to LSU) Dax Whitney - big time helium pitcher out of Idaho Garrett Shull - OF out of Oklahoma Carson Wiggins - P out of Oklahoma Sawyer Farr - SS out of Texas Noah Franco - OF out of Florida Tegan Kuhns - P out of Pennsylvania Mason Russell P out of Arizona Duncan Marsten - P out of California Jackson Barberi - P out of Georgia All of the above guys were Top 100 draft guys by MLB Pipeline. Wonder if we've got our sights on over-slot deals with any of them with an upcoming pick here? We certainly should still have the money to do so, right?
  22. So, we still haven't made that Cooper Pratt type pick here, to use up some of that $$ we supposedly saved in the earlier rounds yet. Let's hope its coming in the next couple of picks. Not sure if there's still a Pratt type HS profile on the board though remaining? Can we throw some bags of money at William Schmidt and convince him to forgo his commitment to LSU?
  23. Yeah, I'm curious about this as well, as this could really impact how much under-slot we can sign him for. Something tells me that he probably did take the physical, and we probably don't have as much $$ to play with her as we initially thought that we might after picking him.
  24. Since we just saw him pitch well against us last night (not to mention, having a fantastic season thus far), how about Tyler Anderson. What does everyone think it would take to get him (looks to be under control through next season). How about: Either Mitchell or Sal Wichorowski Shane Smith Is this too little on our end? Too much? Adding a guy like Anderson into our rotation the next 1.5 years here would be awfully enticing.
