  1. Man, this Brewers offseason just gets more brutal by the day! Please...can someone (anyone!) provide me some sabermetric data on this guy that might get me even just the slighted bit excited about this signing. Anyone???
  2. As much as I wanted to pair up with LA on a Hader deal, I also wouldn't be too upset to see them go out and get Hand to go along with their Treinen signing. Having one team eat up a couple of these high end guys, should then just help more teams remain in the market for high-end relief help as the winter goes along. Also, as someone else stated - maybe it forces the Padres to then make a run at Hader?
  3. Agree with this 100%! I think Turang is nothing more than a 4th or 5th IF at best, and the jury is still out on Feliciano. I'm sorry, but I don't think this would be nearly enough to entice the Cubs to trade Contreras to one of their biggest rivals. I hope I'm wrong on Turang, but I just don't think he's got a lot of big upside.
  4. Yeah, I have no problem with signings like this. You just never know when you might "hit" on one of these guys who figures something out in their swing, or in their pitching mechanics a bit later in their careers? I just wish we could also sprinkle in a few impact major league signings as well.
  5. I see the Royals are bringing back Greg Holland. Anyone have their money on the Royals being the most active MLB team in FA out of the gates this winter?
  6. I would say it's a bridge the gap move. Both Minor and Santana are good deals for the Royals, IMO. I am concerned that this may portend another "spaghetti against the wall approach" from DS this offseason? Yeah, that's my concerns as well. I feel like they are going to steal away all of this mid-level guys now that we were probably planning on offering 1 year deals to. Instead, they all are going to sign for these 2-year deals that KC is out there offering. Not a fan of this strategy by them! Ha.
  7. This KC strategy is a bit perplexing to me? Seemed to me that they'd be in full rebuild mode for at least another year or two, but then they go out and make two of the bigger F/A signings in the first couple of weeks here in Mike Minor and Carlos Santana. Is this strictly just a situation where the owner is wanting to "show" the fans that they are trying to be competitive again, or does their front office really feel as if they were just a few players away this past season from competing? Just seems a bit odd to me. And, I do wonder if they might put a serious damper on our attempts to sign guys this winter to cheap 1-year deals, as they seem to have no problem thus far throwing out these 2-year deals to both Minor and Santana.
  8. I'm sorry - but I cannot see any way possible that the Brewers would be trade Yelich right now. Yeah, he's coming off of a poor year that nobody saw coming, but a lot of guys really struggled during this COVID season. Trading away the franchise player right now would be an absolutely horrible look for Mark A. We can argue Yeli's long term value all we want here, but I just don't think that would be a good business decision at all. The Brewers are going to have a hard enough time selling tickets for this upcoming 2021 season as it is with COVID still lurking (even if the vaccines work), so I can't imagine how much more difficult that task becomes if they trade away two of the most popular players on the team this winter, including the franchise in Yeli.
  9. Does this paint any picture at all on what we could reasonably expect to get back in a Hader deal? I know SP's are valued more than relievers, but a team would also be getting more years out of Hader than just the one that the CWS are getting with Lynn. Just curious what everyone's thoughts are with this deal? Did the Rangers get enough in this deal, did the CWS give up too much for just one year of Lynn?
  10. I get that Rios is on the older side for a prospect, but is it really fair to call him a "career utility player" when he's only played in parts of 2 seasons now for LA with limited AB's - and more than held his own? You might be right on Ruiz. Looks like his prospect status has dipped a bit here over the past year, so maybe he's not one you want to have as the centerpiece coming back. How about we flip Josiah Gray in for Ruiz, and got Gray, Rios + for Hader?
  11. If you want MLB ready talent get ready for a trade like this: Gabe Gross, Dave Bush and Zach Jackson. You are not going to get an All Star level player for Hader it is just not happening. The best bet is to go for a prospect over MLB ready type of a deal. Right ... and to take that idea a step further, every prospect is also going to have question marks. There are very, very few "sure thing" type prospects out there, and those guys typically aren't traded. I would hope, though, that if Hader is traded, it will be for a headliner that has All-Star-type tools and talent. If the Brewers trade Hader this offseason, it is my hope that it will be for a package of players that can contribute to the Big League squad in 2021. But that is far from a given, and it is probably in the team's best interest, now that Yelich is signed to a long-term deal, to take the package that has the best talent, whether it be short-term or long-term. Another reason why I think it just makes way too much sense to make a trade with the Dodgers around a package of Rios and Ruiz.
  12. I still think that a Hader to LA deal for Rios, Ruiz + type deal makes too much sense. Dodgers trade from position of strengths (1B and C) for a position of need (closer), and they get Hader who is one of the best in baseball right now at that position. I'm not sure what the "+" would be from LA, or if we could even get another player, but I'd be fine with one of Kolarek, Peters, McKinstry, etc.
  13. Yeah, exactly this! Nobody had any idea what was about to hit us back in late February/early March. I remember hearing about COVID in the news, but there was NEVER a time when I thought to myself that this virus was going to impact our lives to the extent that it has - back then.
  14. It said that Ashby scuffled a bit at the alternate site in Appleton (he was a late arrival), but at instructs he was the Brewers best pitcher. It said his fastball was 95 mph and both of his breaking pitches earned plus grades. Also said he threw enough strikes that he's projected to be an impact lefthander who could move through the system quickly next season. WOW.....that might be one of the most exciting bits of news we get on the Brewers all winter! Really nice to hear that he stood out down there. We need some of these younger prospects in our system to emerge here, and Ashby is one of those guys that I was hoping would do just that.
  15. It's apparently behind a Baseball America paywall, but did anyone see the tweet that Aaron Ashby was one of the guys that made the most "noise" across all instructs this fall? I have no ideal how many guys they had on their list, but it's at least encouraging to hear some positive reports about that kid. I love the updates from Flanagan, but I feel like they carry a bit more weight when you hear positive reviews on our prospects from outside sources.
  16. Yes please! Heck, for those two in the same deal I would go Mitchell, Turang, Peralta, Small or Ashby, Lutz - and I might even be willing to throw in a Feliciano? Man, our farm system would be absolutely decimated, but we'd have 1B and 3B taken care of for the next few years. If you wanted to, you could then try to trade Hader (either this winter or next summer) to help restock the farm system a bit? With all of this said - I'd put the chances of a deal like this at less than .00001%. But, fun to think about at least!
  17. Haven't seen this posted yet: https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2918412-top-landing-spots-and-trade-packages-for-brewers-rp-josh-hader-amid-rumors What is everyone's thoughts on these package ideas? If we are to believe the Trade Simulator values, it would appear that very few of these trade packages are realistic.
  18. So Olson for Daniel Missaki, Carlos Herrera, and Freddy Peralta? Kind of full circle back to getting a 1B? Only we have 3yrs control of said 1b. But nice on idea. Maybe just add Tristan Lutz and call it a day. Looked at his stats and I could easily see him being intriguing as a near breakout acquire before he did. While Milw gets better for 2021, I'd imagine Oakland wins this trade by 2024. Edit add, Does Oakland have a 1b to replace Olson? Not creating a hole for them? Yeah, that was my concern with this idea as well - as I think it would create a big hole for Oakland at 1B. But, they could always go out and get one of the F/A 1B on a cheap 1-2 year deal to fill that hole for a couple of years? They also have Canha, who I think can play some 1B. If the A's do make Olson available though, I'd have to think there would be other teams that would enter the bidding for him - and I'm guessing we wouldn't be able to put the best package on the table for the A's. Would love to have him though if we could make something work.
  19. I know it's just speculation on their part, but the Reviewing the Brew website posted a story on potential teams that could be good trade partners with the Brewers this winter - to help us improve our offense. The third team they mentioned was the A's (as more of a "sleeper" team), and they specifically listed Matt Olson as a possibility. So, my question would be: what would it take to get a guy like Olson, and would we even have the pieces to make a deal work with the A's? Or, is this just a pipedream that would probably never come to fruition? Here's my first stab here: Brewers get Olson A's get Houser, Turang and Feliciano
  20. Am I reading this correctly? You want to trade Yelich and Hader for a couple of spare parts? My God - thankfully you aren't the Brewers GM!
  21. Yeah, sign me up for either Santana or Moreland on a 1 year deal right now. Gotta think we'd have a decent chance to at least land one of those guys, right? We certainly can provide the promise of a lot of playing time at 1B heading into next year.
  22. This is kind of where I'm at now as well. It just seems like most of the big trades for closers have been made at the July deadline, so I'm guessing we probably don't get the offer we're looking for this winter and hold onto Hader - at least for the 1st half of next season. If we're out of it by July, then you hope that he's having another strong season and you deal him then to a team that is desperate for a closer at the deadline. I have a feeling that DS is going to have to fill the offensive issues again this winter with 1-year deals. The good news there is: there should be a ton of guys available considering the fact that it seems like most teams aren't going to be picking up team options on guys this winter, and there should be a bunch of guys that are non-tendered that make there way to the F/A market.
  23. LOL! Yeah, if Healy never plays another game for the Brewers - I think it's safe to say that in a few years we all are going to look back at that Game 2 boxscore with his name listed 5th in the batting order and immediately think that it has to be some kind of a misprint. Followed by a lot of "Who's" and "How is that even possible?"

  25. No doubt - love to hear that on Gray and Bellow, especially with Gray. Would be huge if we see those guys take a big step next year and cement themselves as legit prospects. And, I hear you on Kelly. It's very clear that he really turned some big heads up in Appleton this summer. Really excited about him. I know our farm system isn't highly thought of right now, but if a handful of these guys take that big step up next year when minor league baseball starts up again, that narrative might change a bit.
