  1. No one is giving us anything for Cain. It’s better to hold on to him and hope he bounces back next year.
  2. Stearns pulled a Kohl in 17/18. Rebuilding with a league worst farm system will take some doing going forward.
  3. This is an older team with a league worst farm team. The outfield is full with Yelich and two bad contracts so I’m not sure what Grissom can do at this point unless Braun is to play a lot of 1B? The recent pick ups seem to be on the back burner which is odd. Maybe once they got a close look they saw something they didn’t like?
  4. The good news is the central stinks and a 5 game winning strike will have people looking for playoff tickets even with all this years warts.
  5. This is where I am too. The pitching staff and in particular the bullpen overachieved to the point of absurdity last year. It wasn’t reasonable to expect that and losing our best pitching coach in memory wasn’t going to be a good thing.
  6. Not a significant trade for either side. Looks like the Brewers will try their bullpenning strategy down the stretch. Dubon is just a guy and it appears they sold high, such as that is for him.
  7. I don’t know about last but certainly bottom 5. Nothing surprising. They traded away a lot of prospects, haven’t drafted well, and recently have been losing draft picks to trades and FA. If they can extend Yelich, Hiura turns into Molitor, and the young pitchers round into form, they will have time to draft better.
  8. None of those guys is exactly Cy Young. DJ did a great job here and he is doing a great job in Cinn while several of the same pitchers here are regressing. I don’t know Hooks skill set so I certainly can’t say he is bad at his job, I just know a pitching staff that no one would mistake for 90s Braves made it to the NLCS.
  9. The issue really isn’t that Hook is a bad pitching coach, it’s that DJ was so good. Even had we tripled his salary, he still would have been worth it. Market inefficiency is how little coaching pay is vs their impact.
  10. What would a deal like this look like?
  11. If all it takes to land one of the best pitchers in baseball is Dubon, we do that that now.
  12. This is 2019. Being a starter or reliever doesn’t matter as long as he finds a role that works for him. I’d rather he can pitch 2 good innings a few times a week than stink it up once every 5 days.
  13. This is the best coached team I’ve ever seen. Budz was a hire we all wanted too. Glad we finally got one right.
  14. Tons of foul trouble and we still steamroll them in their building in a must win game. What more can you ask for?
  15. What a play! Anyone who says coaching doesn’t matter doesn’t recall the Kidd years lol.
  16. Here come the celtics. Budz will calm us down.
  17. And one. If he doesn’t win the MVP we riot
  18. I was one of the strongest supporters of the "pitching coach doesn't matter" movement. Needless to say, I'm starting to see the light now. I mean, some regression on a pitching staff can be expected, but 12 of 13 guys? Really? Losing Knebel obviously sucks, but he was just a part of a pretty dang great pen last year. Granted a few others aren't back, and it's early, but the promise is fleeting. I have never pitched but I am a big golfer. I have gone through about a dozen instructors in my life and only one seemed to figure out how to help when I’d go into a funk. A coach matters and matters big. We had our LaRussa and Duncan. Why would not try to keep them is amazing. I’d be shocked if the cost was more than our worst player. The cost of a pitching coach is less than we pay Albers. Talk about market opportunity and ROI!
  19. This has completely flip flopped recently as expected. Talking about ERA in these really small samples is just silly. It takes 500 IP for ERA to mean anything at all and over 1000 innings for it to mean a ton, it is just an awful metric to try to judge a rotation by. Nothing about this current Brewer staff suggests they have anything in common with our previous years pitching success. If you want to wait for the sample size argument to play itself out knock yourself out but it’s pretty clear things need to change beyond sample size.
  20. Cincinnati’s team ERA is about two runs less than ours. Draw your own conclusions.
  21. Kids aren’t getting it done and we don’t have anyone else to call up. Gio was a logical move, despite not being all that intriguing.
  22. We dump our world class pitching coach and the pitching falls apart. Who could have predicted that?
  23. I doubt anyone would have taken them even for free. We would have had to take at least some salary back. But as the previous poster mentioned, MA isn’t holding up a deal like Kimbrel just for these two.
