  1. Interesting he only mentioned liking Craig.
  2. Castellanos is a brutal defensive player but a 850 hitter. Even with his flaws, you aren’t getting him for our usual trade suspects that we try and give away in every deal. Thames: negative trade value Anderson neural trade value Davies: trade value but selling way low Santana: I think he has some value as a third piece but we tried to trade him all last year. Jesus: some minor trade value. Teams don’t value 1B/DH types at all.
  3. Dodger will give Grandal a QO so that will take him off the table for us. Or at least it should.
  4. It’s $14M for a middle of the rotation starter for a team with a massive payroll. How is this a bad deal for the Cubs? They also removed Smyly and at least some of his $7 M off the books by trading him to the Rangers.
  5. Thats very likely what it would take to land him. Broxton, Jesus, Anderson etc won’t get anything done with a JTR deal. Since Burnes and Woodruff would likely be our 3 and 4 starters at least to start the seasons of what we hope is a playoff team, I can’t see us making that deal. Atlanta is supposedly in the mix and no one can beat their farm if they want to put the hammer down.
  6. I have my golf coach on speed dial and I’ve been golfing for 40 years. He is part coach and part therapist when I have one of those days. Just being a superior athlete and tons of muscle memory even with the much discussed 10,000 hours of practice needs guidance regularly. A pitching and hitting coach is critical to the success of an athlete, yes even at the highest levels.
  7. Pitching coaches make less than Jordan Lyles. Their salaries don’t matter if they are performing. I’m a golfer and I can only relate there but when you find a coach who you can relate to and can make those adjustments you keep him around.
  8. If they don’t perform to 2018 levels that would be perfectly reasonable to not question a move that likely was less than $1m difference between us and the Reds. Can you think of a compelling reason to let him go?
  9. I am seeing Hook as a possible next man up.
  10. “Maybe if CC had made better decisions, we win 105 games? “ No one believes this was 105 win talent that CC wrecked by 8 games. Come on now.
  11. Well we do have Stearns words that he negotiated to keep him and we subsequently have DJ leaving. We also have a low cost pitching staff that outperformed their career arc with DJs leadership.
  12. Those moves lead to 97 wins so I highly doubt that is the case. No one could possibly say the team underperformed under CCs leadership. It’s not like he is going to a team with a better manager.
  13. Coles is a joke but why wouldn’t Stearns give a raise to someone who earned a raise? That’s kind of the whole point of sports. Performance equals $$$ More to the point why did Stearns have a guy so good at his job on a contract that ended after a 97 win season? Pitching coaches make peanuts in the big picture. If they doubled or even tripled his salary (not likely) it would be money well spent.
  14. Who is out there that will do a better job than DJ?
  15. Whatever number the Reds paid, it isn’t as much as we paid Albers and Yo.
  16. We are all in shock and we don’t know what is going on so it’s all just speculation. Firing Tunnel for example is really a head scratcher. What bullpen was better than ours year after year? But Stearns just saw DJ carry us to game 7 with a non elite staff so I wouldn’t think they are low balling him based on Anderson pitching exactly like Anderson and Davies being hurt.
  17. Obviously DJ feels Cincinnati is a more competent organization than Milwaukee. That should be a red flag. Or he just got paid way more money... Too early to speculate anything. How much could he possibly be making? More than Matt Albers is making?
  18. Obviously DJ feels Cincinnati is a more competent organization than Milwaukee. That should be a red flag.
  19. What possible negotiations could take place? DJ gives a number and Sterns says yes. Period. It isn’t like he is leaving for a manager job or a team that will bring in star talent. This is lateral and arguably a step down.
  20. If true, Stearns did a horrible job at these talks and he will own this major unforced error. There is no amount of money a pitching coach could ask for that the Reds would pay that wouldn’t be reasonable.
  21. Something is very wrong right now. Our bullpen and pitching staff in general were the strength of the team and we are losing both key coaches there. This can’t be because we think we can upgrade both areas?
  22. With the Derek Johnson news, my concerm with bringing back Schoop is about zero.
  23. Wow. This is as bad a team news as I could see today. He and Counsel need 5 year extensions ASAP. We can NOT afford to lose either.
  24. I remember reading on twitter that Donaldson was allegedly a bit of a jerk. I have zero idea of its true but after seeing Machado up close we really want good chemistry guys.
  25. Hiura and burnes should basically be off limits. Both are too close to the majors and fill obvious holes. I don’t disagree but to land the best catcher in the game at 27 and two years of control will require an elite prospect package.
