  1. I can’t believe Jake was acquired for so little. I would have loved him at that price.
  2. True. His value would be zero otherwise. At some point, first round picks shouldn’t have 700 ops playing against mostly non prospects regardless of age.
  3. I’m not sure what Clark/Grisham’s value is on the open market. On one hand he draws a lot of walks and was a former first round pick. On the other hand he can’t even hit A ball pitch and those guys rarely make it in the majors. Cole would be an interesting cheap get for us but the FO seems hell bent on giving old guys the first crack.
  4. This thread is still very much alive because the Brewers, no matter the spin, desperately need starting pitching and Cobb is the last good FA hold out.
  5. And give up what? Our usual Thames/Aguilar/Broxton offer doesn't move the needle much when it comes to starting pitching trade talk. Thames and Broxton aren't getting much done in ST to generate interest.
  6. Please be true. Something has to happen because this makes no sense otherwise.
  7. Excellent point. Cain is a tremendous defender but the other 2 are LFers exclusively. We are like a little league team where we will try and hide someone in RF and pray no one hits it there.
  8. OF WAR tends to have a bit of a glitch when it comes to OF defense. Do we really think GoGo was a 7 WAR player? The contract for Heyward? Yelich dervies much of his value from his D exclusively in LF. He is a flat out bad defender at CF and likely in RF where his one poor tool would be exposed, though he hasn’t played much RF at all. The problem with that is our best overal bat has the same issue. We have two guys who really can only play LF effectively and they just happen to be our two best players when healthy. Braun really needs to become our semi everyday 1B for this current roster to make sense.
  9. Perez will get OF starts because we apparently will only have a 4 man bench so our best 25 players won't actually be on the roster when minor injuries occur.
  10. By those I assume you mean Brewer fans? No, Miley and Yo aren't good. Chacin away from Petco wasn't good. These are guys every team signs to fill one back end slot in the pen or spot 5th starter, not guys you count on in key roles. Every team in the league has an abundance of pitching depth if the bar is Miley, Yo, and JC.
  11. 1- See box score 2- Immediately think of the reaction going on at BF.net 3- Contemplate who you'd expect to see jumping at the opportunity to post that the sky is falling 4- Go to BF.net to see it confirmed 5- Laugh 6- Cry 7- Remind yourself it's just spring training 8- Cry some more 9- Look for the latest Cobb rumors 10- Pray that Stearns has things under control I'm certainly guilty of point 2 and 3 but come on. We are in a thread that is almost 80 pages strong about signing Cobb then folks desperately cling to anything to rationalize how we don't need Cobb because we have Wade Miley. And you know, pitchers with a 1.7 Whip aren't really all that bad. It's low hanging fruit I admit but........ it's Wade Miley. It wasn't like we had to wait very long for a 3 inning, 10 hit, 7 runs outing.
  12. Lol the great Wade Miley is getting smoked today. I guess folks can talk themselves into anything.
  13. Relying on one year of data and making no mention of underlying talent often leads people to make these kinds of hyperbolic assumptions. Most projections I've seen have Miley as a 1-2 WAR pitcher if he pitches 150 innings. That's perfectly fine for a back end starter. So WAR projections matter now? Because every WAR projection I have seen suggests the Brewers project to be 500 at best and not close to the playoffs.
  14. If only some team had been interested in him in say, August 2016. Well how could any GM see that a career PED user would regress as he got clean and aged?
  15. Chacin had a 6.53 ERA away from Petco. No, the rotation did not stay the same.
  16. Miley had a 1.7 Whip last year. No amount of spin will suggest he is anything but a prayer type of signing.
  17. I'd love to know what really happened between those two acquisitions and the nothing that followed.
  18. Hiura seems to be the only plus plus guy on the way though Lutz may push his way into that conversation. The team is not young so the window is short, like 3 years max. For the starting line up, Yelich and Arcia are young and have upside. I would have added Santana but Stearns doesn't seem to want him here. The rest of guys seem like regression candidates unless people really like Villar. I like Hader and Knebel in the pen. The rest no one knows until the live at bats start due to the general roller coaster nature of the pen arms. The rotation looks like a nightmare unless DJ pulls off a miracle. We really needed a reliable 2/3 type which is why this thread is still going strong. This team feels like a pretty old 500 caliber team. We have seen this movie before from the Senator but who knows. Maybe CC and DJ will pull this off.
  19. The NL doesn't have the DH therefore Stearns thought he had a trade that didn't work out. No one would have built a roster like this on purpose.
  20. I was definitely not a Cobb fan at a crazy Cain style contract but at these prices I really have no idea what Stearns is thinking.
  21. If we didn't have the money for Lynn we don't have the money for anyone decent in 2019. What a crazy offseason this has been.
  22. This has to be the weirdest offseason I can ever remember. What in the world is the plan?
  23. 1.7 Whip is not acceptable from any starter, 5th or otherwise. Let's hope DJ can make chicken salad here.
  24. The FA pitcher market fell perfectly for Stearns. Guess he is going to let DJ do the heavy lifting in 2018.
  25. Brilliant signing for the Twins. I'd think Cobb would be in line for a similar deal.
