Yea no reason to have seen this dip coming for him this year. He'd probably be a great bounceback guy next year for someone, assuming a reduction in pay next year. Really he wouldn't be a bad platoon/insurance for MKE to pair with Vaughn since he's LH. Unfortunately I don't see any OF ability in his background to kind of take the Bauers role, I'd guess MKE wouldn't two strictly 1Bs on the roster with how they do things. Probably makes sense for him just to go back to TX right now. I think they're still playing Tellez/Pederson/Burger combos at DH/1B right now. Cut Tellez for him and see what happens

And in the playoffs these days everyone is basically a 4-6 inning guy other than maybe a handful of guys like a Skubal/Wheeler. For some reason the rest of the league has seemed to copy what the moron Brewers started in regards to 3rd time through lineup cautiousness combined with loading a bullpen of 3-4 fireballers to lock down those last innings rather than a worn out guy throwing his 95th pitch. . Quick google summary, and saw another note that LAD hasn't had a SP complete the 7th since 2021 In last year's playoffs, 7 starting pitchers completed at least 7 innings in a game. There were 41 total playoff games, and starting pitchers averaged just under 4 2/3 innings per start. Only 16 times did a starting pitcher pitch into the seventh inning, and just seven times did a starter complete seven innings,

I just noticed this last night which led me to double check if MLB reseeds after the WC. They do not. So, in theory if the playoffs ended today MKE would be playing the winner of LAD/Cubs. On one hand, you'd want the Dodgers to go through any difficulty possible, on the other you'd rather not risk playing them in the NLDS. And really I'd rather not play the Cubs either due to losing the stadium to their fans, plus it would sting so much worse if we had this crazy season and then lose to them right away. We'll see, hopefully it doesn't shake out facing a Cubs/Dodgers winner.
-
They said it was first time goin going on normal rest, so probably just trying to be cautious. In addition, to keep him feeling good as his next start will line up in the Cubs series which are important games and more important to go deep in those games. This one, 6-0 lead vs worst offense in league and day off tomorrow would fall in the opposite category. But such is baseball
-
It's probably all moot when talking about such small numbers and really both sides aren't wrong. But, was just going to add that double plays probably more than outweigh the lost in the sun type defensive F ups. It's all in the ballpark of a wash though.

Brewers Trade Aaron Civale To White Sox For Andrew Vaughn
tmwiese55 replied to wibadgers23's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
I was thinking something similar in the last few days as someone like Frelick hit some simple grounder through the right side and I thought how that would've been an easy out before the shift ban. Several of our guys would theoretically be greatly hurt without the ban, so yea I thought maybe we've targeted or found a little niche in the market befofre everyone else that base hits can actually happen again. -
Brewers Trade Aaron Civale To White Sox For Andrew Vaughn
tmwiese55 replied to wibadgers23's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
I think we've had this type of PT issue conversation countless times the last few years. Generally, it continues to work itself over and over due to someone else getting hurt/injured. This talk just happened regarding OFs here in the last month or so as mitchell/perkins were coming back, then Chourio and frelick both get hurt and now we're playing a guy we never heard of from San Diego. Sure, yes if every player is healthy this discussion will happen. But chances are, at some point in the next 4-5 weeks someone else will get hurt. -
You're not wrong in general. But lately the BP has been in much better shape due to all the easy wins. Yea only 5 from Freddy last night but didn't have to use the high leverage guys, got two out of Ashby which is his role. 7 innings from Prierster Monday. Day off tomorrow. Hopefully it stays like this going into the CHC series. Mets announcers on MLB network just now had a gushing over how stacked the brewers pitching is
-
When those trade happened I saw comments on how Yanks have the best BP now, etc. I thought have people not seen what Duval has been the last 1.5ish years and the last few weeks. Then with talk like that I thought hey maybe Devin has fixed himself from the awful start, looked it up and saw he's still be struggling lately. I did not get, but big names rule the deadline. San Diegos BP hype, ok yea I get that

This might be the best team ever assembled.

Was confusing as it all happened, but now it makes sense. It essentially works out as Cortez and the minor leaguer for Miller and Lockridge. And now news is out that Chourio will go to DL, so Lockridge is needed to fill in for two weeks, so more 'making sense'. Things that don't to me, with how loaded their farm is how do you not get an improvement on Monasterio to have some insurance on an injury to any IF. It wouldn't cost top prospects. Castro from MN was the name that made sense, so I'd have to read or see wht folks here say on what Cubs gave up for him vs what we could've. Also, not that Elvis and Hudson are awesome. But they're two guys that have been competent relievers the last few years, Couldn't they have been included or traded somehow rather than just cutting. Considering the value rental just ok relivers go for you'd think you could get something. I guess we'll see, but I'd think someone picks them up. I'd note that if Hudson's velo is still way down in AAA then maybe he shouldn't be included here.
-
But they showed they really wanted to win by giving out a terrible contract to Correa, they wanted it though!!
-
they also already added a SP and 1B in trades. Just because they don't happen on deadline day doesn't mean they didn't happen. In reality, its smarter for obvious reasons to trade for help earlier in the year than it as it the deadline. Still, I can't believe something wasn't done to improve offensive depth positions like Mono/Bauers. I'd have preferred one more proven reliver like Bednar too. have 3 guys at the backend like that is a huge perk. At this point though, have to sit back and trust them. Their idea on that could easily be that Mis will be that role come Sept/Oct due to innings

Welcome. I've seen this pointed out a few times, but really we don't know that either way. Just because his shoulder got sore in ST does not mean he can never play SS. Spring training is when they get up to speed and when soreness and the like can happen. We don't know their assessment on whether that was just due to getting up and running in ST or if they view it as something that will prevent a move to SS. We hope he can move to SS, thus the discussion. But the team has never really told us one way or the other. The guy played SS his whole life without soreness, personally I don't think it would be a problem at all. Especially if planned for from the beginning. Which brings in the second issue of doing the change midseason on a team that values D so much.
-
At the very least, Monasterio has to be upgraded with a utility person who if forced into starting due to an injury wouldn't kill you. Ideally, that person could play SS
-
Then they'd likely demand more back in prospects, that's the trade off to decide on. We lose Hoskins salary next year so our only big commitment is Yelich. Its for sure a gamble since he's barely played this year, but if he picks up his option it also addresses the obvious offseason need they're going to have (and had this year too but couldn't find someone willing to sign a cost effective enough short term deal). But yes, 16 mil rather than 10ish is the tough part. When I brought it up in the other thread, my assumption was he'd pick up the option due to the lost year, but yea I guess if he comes to us and does well for two months he might opt out. Which I guess if fine at that price, but if I'm MKE and he comes here stays healthy and plays good D while hitting above like 710 I think I'd rather him pick up the option and have the spot covered for next year. Fills the gap until the big SS prospects should be ready. Mentioned in another thread, maybe they find a place to offload Cortez/Hoskins salary to partially pay for this.
-
Just went through CBS deadline thread, had a mention of Boston looking for 1B and SP help. Quintana or Cortes plus Hoskins could line up if MKE trusts Vaughn is legit. I don't know what they have for IF/SS help that could make sense. Old friend Toro wouldn't be bad as a Mona upgrade, but he's not really a solution to SS either. But maybe its just an area MKE could clear salary to pay for a different move they make. would be putting a lot of faith in Vaughn too

Predict the deadline for Milwaukee
tmwiese55 replied to Scooterfletcher's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Well yea, that was the idea posted. I agree that I also thought he was generally overrated due to being a blah hitter, he was someone I wanted to pass on last offseason when he was talked about, especially knowing he'd miss half a year. But he's viewed as GG caliber SS D and is at least ok at hitting. Only a 1.5 year salary commitment which is good for us, yea 16 mil is too much for him but its only one year. SS is much more of a need now than we thought in the offseason. And the injury should be behind him now. You'd essentially be getting 1.33 seasons and two playoff runs for 20ish mil. Not sure on exacts but I think you could get a pick back for him after next season too. -
But at least they have an owner who wants to win, that's really the key. Spending and doing splashy moves to show the fans you want it, even if the moves are really dumb. To me that's a good owner. Much better than one who actually does win
