  1. Reminder to some folks that Fedde was one of the prizes of the deadline last year and he was DFAd under a year later. But hey, at least STL was trying to win unlike the Brewers
  2. So the haters who've been gone for two months but had fun last 36 hours can log back off until the loss in October?
  3. Was confusing as it all happened, but now it makes sense. It essentially works out as Cortez and the minor leaguer for Miller and Lockridge. And now news is out that Chourio will go to DL, so Lockridge is needed to fill in for two weeks, so more 'making sense'. Things that don't to me, with how loaded their farm is how do you not get an improvement on Monasterio to have some insurance on an injury to any IF. It wouldn't cost top prospects. Castro from MN was the name that made sense, so I'd have to read or see wht folks here say on what Cubs gave up for him vs what we could've. Also, not that Elvis and Hudson are awesome. But they're two guys that have been competent relievers the last few years, Couldn't they have been included or traded somehow rather than just cutting. Considering the value rental just ok relivers go for you'd think you could get something. I guess we'll see, but I'd think someone picks them up. I'd note that if Hudson's velo is still way down in AAA then maybe he shouldn't be included here.
  4. But they showed they really wanted to win by giving out a terrible contract to Correa, they wanted it though!!
  5. they also already added a SP and 1B in trades. Just because they don't happen on deadline day doesn't mean they didn't happen. In reality, its smarter for obvious reasons to trade for help earlier in the year than it as it the deadline. Still, I can't believe something wasn't done to improve offensive depth positions like Mono/Bauers. I'd have preferred one more proven reliver like Bednar too. have 3 guys at the backend like that is a huge perk. At this point though, have to sit back and trust them. Their idea on that could easily be that Mis will be that role come Sept/Oct due to innings
  6. Welcome. I've seen this pointed out a few times, but really we don't know that either way. Just because his shoulder got sore in ST does not mean he can never play SS. Spring training is when they get up to speed and when soreness and the like can happen. We don't know their assessment on whether that was just due to getting up and running in ST or if they view it as something that will prevent a move to SS. We hope he can move to SS, thus the discussion. But the team has never really told us one way or the other. The guy played SS his whole life without soreness, personally I don't think it would be a problem at all. Especially if planned for from the beginning. Which brings in the second issue of doing the change midseason on a team that values D so much.
  7. At the very least, Monasterio has to be upgraded with a utility person who if forced into starting due to an injury wouldn't kill you. Ideally, that person could play SS
  8. Then they'd likely demand more back in prospects, that's the trade off to decide on. We lose Hoskins salary next year so our only big commitment is Yelich. Its for sure a gamble since he's barely played this year, but if he picks up his option it also addresses the obvious offseason need they're going to have (and had this year too but couldn't find someone willing to sign a cost effective enough short term deal). But yes, 16 mil rather than 10ish is the tough part. When I brought it up in the other thread, my assumption was he'd pick up the option due to the lost year, but yea I guess if he comes to us and does well for two months he might opt out. Which I guess if fine at that price, but if I'm MKE and he comes here stays healthy and plays good D while hitting above like 710 I think I'd rather him pick up the option and have the spot covered for next year. Fills the gap until the big SS prospects should be ready. Mentioned in another thread, maybe they find a place to offload Cortez/Hoskins salary to partially pay for this.
  9. Right, but I also think its what would motivate TB to dump him and keeps his market down so they cannot demand much back in return. Especially since his remaining 5ish mil this year is wasted money for them since they're giving up and we know how cheap they are
  10. Just went through CBS deadline thread, had a mention of Boston looking for 1B and SP help. Quintana or Cortes plus Hoskins could line up if MKE trusts Vaughn is legit. I don't know what they have for IF/SS help that could make sense. Old friend Toro wouldn't be bad as a Mona upgrade, but he's not really a solution to SS either. But maybe its just an area MKE could clear salary to pay for a different move they make. would be putting a lot of faith in Vaughn too
  11. Well yea, that was the idea posted. I agree that I also thought he was generally overrated due to being a blah hitter, he was someone I wanted to pass on last offseason when he was talked about, especially knowing he'd miss half a year. But he's viewed as GG caliber SS D and is at least ok at hitting. Only a 1.5 year salary commitment which is good for us, yea 16 mil is too much for him but its only one year. SS is much more of a need now than we thought in the offseason. And the injury should be behind him now. You'd essentially be getting 1.33 seasons and two playoff runs for 20ish mil. Not sure on exacts but I think you could get a pick back for him after next season too.
  12. But at least they have an owner who wants to win, that's really the key. Spending and doing splashy moves to show the fans you want it, even if the moves are really dumb. To me that's a good owner. Much better than one who actually does win
  13. Sure but you'd have to give up much more for him and dig into some legit prospects. The idea on Kim is that he'd essentially be a salary dump to us.
  14. Off the wall idea I could see some logic in would be Kim from TB. Been hurt all year, TB is selling. He's signed for 1 more year basically at Hoskins salary slot, well its a player option I'd expect him to pick up after being hurt all year so far. We seems to trade with TB a fair amount, they probably wouldn't mind just being off the money so we don't give up any prospects of value. Plays great D while being an ok hitter and could be the stopgap at SS until the young guys are ready. Thing is he's currently back on the DL, but it seems minor and should be back in the next week.
  15. Few games in a row Freddy looks off. With the Cortes issue coming soon maybe a quick two week break for Peralta for dead arm to just get a rest wouldn't be a bad idea. Get re-charged for the stretch
  16. Another thing to note on Contreras playing so much again this year is that they did this last year too and he seems to hit a wall at the end of the year. And that's before factoring in his finger issue and that he's not near the hitter this year as last ETA: seems memory was skewed by the playoffs, his 2h and september was not as bad as I thought
  17. I'd guess they didn't want to mess with the defensive aspects of catching in such a big game and with one of our best pitchers. Probably still getting him up to speed on that side of it and he'll get out there for a game in WAS. Plus an off day tomorrow for Contreras.
  18. Overpaying for a big name is good. Finding a steal that produces big is bad, apparently.
  19. Generally agree on the coinflip. Which is the main point of the bites of the apple and goes against the "we're not trying to win big" type attitudes here. No matter you do, if you can't build a juggernaut like LAD the nature of baseball flukiness makes these series near coinflips. There really isn't a trade MKE can make that substantially changes their odds from the 5-10% chance they have right now. Then it comes down to luck/flukiness and just getting hot or the right hit at the right time. That said, I'd assume MKE would be slight faves due to homefield over the likely 2nd round teams NYM, Padres, Giants, Reds, Cards. I could see coinflip or dogs vs Phi/Chc due to Phil just being very good and with good starting pitching, Cubs because it turns into homefield for them (plus gambling skews towards big cities)
  20. I bet they did in 1987
  21. Naylor will likely leave and then you can move Suarez to 1b as he ages. Plus of course there is DH now in the NL. Between that and 3B there should be plenty of ABs for a 45 HR guy. It probably all comes down to the money (for him and Naylor), as hot as Suarez is now lets not forget he kind of fell apart a few years ago and got salary dumped. But if they have a good relationship (which they seem to do, and I was at our games there this year where he seems to be a fan favorite) and can get him on a 2-3 year type deal while Naylor is asking way more you probably take Suarez. If a dumb team like NYY gives Suarez 5-6 years then they don't bother. So I'd adjust your statement to at least one of them isn't coming back, could go either way on which
  22. I've thought of him too. Issues I've ran into is that he's been awful on D in CF and was bad at SS. I wonder if he'd have been better of being moved to 3B, but they have gold glover there in Hayes. If they were to get him now I'd think you'd try to move him to left. Then in the offseason see if a 3B conversion could happen. And you'd hate to waste the athleticism but if he can't hack in the OF you have to look at 1B. Which we'd have an opening next year too. Long story, with all those D questions and the Brewers emphasis on D I don't see it happening midseason. But maybe something in the offseason could make sense giving the team time to work with him and get all the pirates bs washed off him
  23. Right, yet the stuff I see keeps talking about them adding another bat like Suarez. If I'm them I'm putting my resources into a pitcher like the one from MIA that's been hot lately
  24. Brewers do play them next week, so if they keep playing this well vs Sea and a poor MIA team at home, then sweep Cubs or at least get 2/3 they could all of a sudden be sitting on a 3-5 game lead into August. Of course there would still be a lot of games left, but that would be a nice pole position to be in
  25. Seems like a reasonable enough idea. Main issue being using draft capital at a position that has a 17 mil man coming back to it soon. But main question I was to ask is what kind of contract O'hearn would we expect to get in the offseason? It's not like he's been some world beater, and is 31. But has been solid enough for a couple years now, so was thinking if you got him is there a reasonable 2-3 year type deal MKE could start working with him
