  1. Sure but you'd have to give up much more for him and dig into some legit prospects. The idea on Kim is that he'd essentially be a salary dump to us.
  2. Off the wall idea I could see some logic in would be Kim from TB. Been hurt all year, TB is selling. He's signed for 1 more year basically at Hoskins salary slot, well its a player option I'd expect him to pick up after being hurt all year so far. We seems to trade with TB a fair amount, they probably wouldn't mind just being off the money so we don't give up any prospects of value. Plays great D while being an ok hitter and could be the stopgap at SS until the young guys are ready. Thing is he's currently back on the DL, but it seems minor and should be back in the next week.
  3. Few games in a row Freddy looks off. With the Cortes issue coming soon maybe a quick two week break for Peralta for dead arm to just get a rest wouldn't be a bad idea. Get re-charged for the stretch
  4. Another thing to note on Contreras playing so much again this year is that they did this last year too and he seems to hit a wall at the end of the year. And that's before factoring in his finger issue and that he's not near the hitter this year as last ETA: seems memory was skewed by the playoffs, his 2h and september was not as bad as I thought
  5. I'd guess they didn't want to mess with the defensive aspects of catching in such a big game and with one of our best pitchers. Probably still getting him up to speed on that side of it and he'll get out there for a game in WAS. Plus an off day tomorrow for Contreras.
  6. Overpaying for a big name is good. Finding a steal that produces big is bad, apparently.
  7. Generally agree on the coinflip. Which is the main point of the bites of the apple and goes against the "we're not trying to win big" type attitudes here. No matter you do, if you can't build a juggernaut like LAD the nature of baseball flukiness makes these series near coinflips. There really isn't a trade MKE can make that substantially changes their odds from the 5-10% chance they have right now. Then it comes down to luck/flukiness and just getting hot or the right hit at the right time. That said, I'd assume MKE would be slight faves due to homefield over the likely 2nd round teams NYM, Padres, Giants, Reds, Cards. I could see coinflip or dogs vs Phi/Chc due to Phil just being very good and with good starting pitching, Cubs because it turns into homefield for them (plus gambling skews towards big cities)
  8. I bet they did in 1987
  9. Naylor will likely leave and then you can move Suarez to 1b as he ages. Plus of course there is DH now in the NL. Between that and 3B there should be plenty of ABs for a 45 HR guy. It probably all comes down to the money (for him and Naylor), as hot as Suarez is now lets not forget he kind of fell apart a few years ago and got salary dumped. But if they have a good relationship (which they seem to do, and I was at our games there this year where he seems to be a fan favorite) and can get him on a 2-3 year type deal while Naylor is asking way more you probably take Suarez. If a dumb team like NYY gives Suarez 5-6 years then they don't bother. So I'd adjust your statement to at least one of them isn't coming back, could go either way on which
  10. I've thought of him too. Issues I've ran into is that he's been awful on D in CF and was bad at SS. I wonder if he'd have been better of being moved to 3B, but they have gold glover there in Hayes. If they were to get him now I'd think you'd try to move him to left. Then in the offseason see if a 3B conversion could happen. And you'd hate to waste the athleticism but if he can't hack in the OF you have to look at 1B. Which we'd have an opening next year too. Long story, with all those D questions and the Brewers emphasis on D I don't see it happening midseason. But maybe something in the offseason could make sense giving the team time to work with him and get all the pirates bs washed off him
  11. Right, yet the stuff I see keeps talking about them adding another bat like Suarez. If I'm them I'm putting my resources into a pitcher like the one from MIA that's been hot lately
  12. Brewers do play them next week, so if they keep playing this well vs Sea and a poor MIA team at home, then sweep Cubs or at least get 2/3 they could all of a sudden be sitting on a 3-5 game lead into August. Of course there would still be a lot of games left, but that would be a nice pole position to be in
  13. Seems like a reasonable enough idea. Main issue being using draft capital at a position that has a 17 mil man coming back to it soon. But main question I was to ask is what kind of contract O'hearn would we expect to get in the offseason? It's not like he's been some world beater, and is 31. But has been solid enough for a couple years now, so was thinking if you got him is there a reasonable 2-3 year type deal MKE could start working with him
  14. If a 3B is being discussed the idea would be Turang to SS. Durbin to 2B. Ortiz to utility if he's not in the trade. We don't know if the team itself is open to that move but with the reported links to Suarez with Ortiz being in the doghouse of late it seems they would be.
  15. Having 4 OFs is fine, its really ideal. I don't see the issue or concern on PT. With two being switch hitters its easy to play matchups and rest days moved around. Plus, now that we're like 2-3 years into the "we have too many OF discussions" I'd hope folks realize that people will continue to get hurt. It happens over and over. Even got to the point we've had to play Bauers and Mike Cameron's kid out there this year. A roster crunch issue that could come up down the line if Vaughn keeps doing what he's doing is what to do with Hoskins. Bauers struggling after the good start obviously frees a spot. But, he at least had the OF sub flexibility that Vaughn doesn't have and he's not LH like Bauers. Brewers typically don't like having one position types and to have two of them who can't play anywhere other than 1B doesn't seem like their thing. Especially with DH heavily covered with Yeli/Contreras. But to my first point, other injuries will happen and it'll likely take care of itself or Vaughn will snap back to reality.
  16. I like how someone else phrased it earlier, definitely have to be involved which at the very least drives the price up. But don't overpay or go overboard for 2 months of a player. Drive it up so if the Cubs get they have to overpay, and just hope the Yanks end up doing it instead. Sure the Cubs have been weak at 3B but their offense is so good they should spend their assets on pitching so hope they see that too and the Yanks get him instead. I think I said it a couple months ago on here that he seems perfect for the Yankees, plus they'd be a team willing/able to pay him in the offseason, so getting now increases your chances of resigning. Cubs could do I guess but have the Tucker bill coming due this offseason.
  17. Saw someone mention the division odds. Made me remember about 10 days ago noticing they were 36-1 to win the WS and I told a friend who bets a lot that its not a bad bet at those odds. Even winning 6 more in a row since I said that they're still 25-1 and only 10th best odds. So seems the oddsmakers don't believe, though these lines are skewed by big city betters. Obviously I'm not saying they're going to win it, but a team that looks like a near lock to make the playoffs only having the 10th highest odds seems off.
  18. I was on the Contreras DL side and to wrap it around the ASB. Since that didn't happen I don't think they're going to all of a sudden do it now. But of course we're not really privy to the info of can it even heal in 2ish weeks or not? If it can't, then really there isn't a choice other than to play through it, deal with it in the offseason
  19. Granted its close to noon there so sun it kind of just up above everything. But based on shadows right now it seems the sun it as the back of defenders. Which would make sense for how to construct a stadium, you're not going to design to have sun going down behind home plate. But who knows with the angle he was running/looking and that its so close to noon that its kind of everywhere if you look up. I guess long way to say, that should be an error, complete wiff.
  20. I haven't seen anything yet either. But I think they mentioned it was a lingering thing for him before Sunday. With the ASB a DL stint is really only 6 games for him. IMO if its borderline you might as well do it, give him the week. It's tough teams to play, but better safe than sorry
  21. I rarely watch this stuff, but was trying to pay attention for when the MKE pitchers got in so was flipping to it. Biggest thing I noticed is the length of commercial breaks, seemed at the level of NFL games. Yea the ending was gimmicky, but tough to come up with a better solution since pitchers don't wanna pitch. I guess the HR contest was entertaining enough, but yea don't need all the interviews in between dragging it out
  22. I think I saw at least one of the Phils pitcher was still given the bonus. Presumably, his agent pointed out to the team he declined the invite but still deserves it and Phils said yes. So if they did it for one and word got out, they probably did it for the other if it was in his contract.
  23. To the Durbin talk, with several of the names being 3B I think the idea would be Turang to SS and Durbin being the primary 2B. Certain guys on the list could provide a lot of mixing and matching, but the general idea would be that Ortiz is the one pushed out
  24. I was just thinking if they're actually going to go for a significant trade that Abrams should be the target due to the control. I was about to look up the D stuff but someone here did it, I would think he could get shifted to 3B, Turang to SS. But, we know how MKE values D so that might just immediately take him off the list especially considering it would be a significant cost to acquire.
  25. I'd take this, especially if cheaper than a Suarez and since he has the extra year of control. Quick look seems Collins has done more 2B than 3B in the minors, so another way to make this worth would be if they are ok with Turang moving midseason to SS. Collins can bounce around as backup OF and share games with the non Turang IFs for the other two spots. Gets Mona off the roster
