  1. Assuming we give up no valued prospects. Why would you be angry over having him instead of Wade Miley starting games in a playoff stretch?
  2. If Gio is awful because of his last two months is Archer then awesome? 2.7 ERA his last 8 starts with only 2 HRs given up.
  3. yea, presumably it's been done already and you have to take what the scouts say into consideration. Although since the Nats weren't likely sellers maybe they didn't plan on him at all, but teams have scouts out all the time in general for future matchups. Plus, we just played them. Or you can probably watch every pitch he's thrown the last two months in about 20 mins if you really want.
  4. I'd be surprised if the Marlins GM has written of a futures prospect heavy trade as terrible after 3 months. His hand was forced to make a trade and get prospects back, that's his job and now he has to see what happens with the guys. As one of the few here who was low on Brinson, I thought we'd come out ahead on it from the get go. But he can't be holding a grudge after 3 months when he agreed to it, we did nothing shady or lied about anything, etc.
  5. Guy had a sub 3 ERA last year. Was at 2.1 through May. A few bad starts since then doesn't mean he's trash for good. He's had 2-3 really bad ones to inflate the ERA and the rest are about what we've been getting out of guys, 5-6 innings 2-3 runs. So basically his worst case like he's been the last few weeks is what we're currently getting, if he reverts to his normal self we're miles ahead. This is one that is likely going to need some real scouting to determine what's been up with him the last few weeks.
  6. I would assume we'd be giving up next to nothing to get him, in that case he's clearly an upgrade to Miley. Also, his last game was 7 inning 1 run, so maybe he's breaking out of his slump. As long as there isn't some dip in velocity going on or a nagging injury we wouldn't know about I don't see how he's not a more trustable pitcher than Miley.
  7. Gonzalez was excellent in 2017. In 2018 his numbers look decent on the surface. Then you dig a bit deeper and his 1.45 WHIP sticks out like a sore thumb... There is no doubt in my mind that Gio is a safer bet to be a better pitcher than Wade Miley for the rest of the season.
  8. I think I saw something today that his ERA since some date (I wanna say mid-may) is in that 3.4-5 area he's accustomed to. But now he's also go to the AL east as opposed to the garbage AL central (other than Cle).
  9. I agree, you have two legit aces when healthy controlled for several years. Good secondary starters in Matz/Wheeler. Get a new manager and give it a shot. There's no reason they shouldn't be better. Though isn't it the same ownership group that lost all their money, so they really can't just spend to fix the offense (even though that's usually a losing route anyway)? Although, Tebow should be ready next year. Mets and Miami should've merged teams last offseason. Marlins O and Mets pitching.
  10. I think they have four lefties but at least 3 this week, would be a great time for a Braun break out and Jesus to snap out of it.
  11. I'd love this pickup. Someone several months ago who's also a Sox fan said he's basically off limits though as they view him as a building block. So I'm guessing the price is sky high. On a sidenote, I have him in fantasy so I pay attention to him. This week he went 7 innings in both games with I think 1 run and 0 runs given up if I remember correctly. Manager brings him back out for the 8th in both games with upper 90s pitches and runs him into the mid teens while he gives up runs in the 8th. This is for a team that's 30 games out and their best young arm who has had a litany of injuries. Just horrible management of the player and horrible game management. When you see stuff like this you understand what MKE is doing even more. Also, Maeda from LAD this week went 7 with 1 run, manager brings him out for the 8th. Lets him complete the full inning giving up 3 more runs. Making it the tie game that went 16 innings. Genius management.
  12. I'd be really curious what the price on Bumgarner is. Only signed through next year so they shouldn't be asking for the world. The remaining SP options seem to be more or less similar to what we could get if we just played Woodruff/Burnes at starter instead. I suppose Wheeler I could see making sense too.
  13. It would probably be funny too look at his first 3-4 game threads too. Folks probably calling for him to DFAd and a flop
  14. I probably cap at Hiura, Peralta, Nottingham. Maybe a 4th low level flyer type too, but as far as names we actually know at this point I think that's probably as far as I go. And that's even tough to do with Hiura.
  15. Yea with how limited Thames is combined with Yelich's clear ability to play both, it actually would make perfect logical sense to have the two flip flop based on L or R hitters.
  16. It would be Shaw playing 2B if it happens. I'd guess some creative shifts as well. I'd have thought a simpler path would have been there, but it's something. Also would kind of make them a touch lefty heavy wouldn't it?
  17. Played half the game and another error and a botched double play that doesn't count as an error. Just keeps coming
  18. Friend of mine brought up Murphy yesterday as well. I doubt they'll actually sell off instead of remaining all in, but I agree it would probably be the prudent move. Really doubt Harper is back. Trade him and Murphy and you get some minor league infusion. They can still try to win next year, team is still darn good with two ace pitchers when healthy.
  19. You'd have to pull him in the 5th with 40 pitches because he'd have gotten his 15 outs already
  20. Zach Duke sitting there on MN as well. Bad outings in 2 of last 3 games to inflate ERA but overall he's been solid all year.
  21. His location has been all over the place. He's wild, and when he hits the plate, it's straight and right down the middle. With his stuff, he's not going to be able to get away with that. I like Freddy, and I think he has a bright future. He needs seasoning, though. Wow, the Brewers offense is just horrid. Making Roark look like Cy Young today. I think Peralta really needs a change up. With his kind of violent delivery it should be really deceptive. Reminds me a lot of K-Rod in his older years with his delivery. put an 82ish change up with the his 92 FB with that delivery and that could be what he needs to get to the next step. of course along with control
  22. Yea that's fair, I could have used a more positive phrasing than "pretty happy", but yea we're on the same page.
  23. I'd say the biggest criticism or mistake on Stearns end so far would be not having a trade locked in place for Santana exactly when the Yelich/Cain moves happened. My guess/assumption is that he got totally boned by another GM who backed out after seeing the other moves, but that trade should have happened simultaneously. Other than that, nobody is perfect of course but overall you have to be pretty happy with how things have been going and can see the logic in anything he's done even if it hasn't worked out (take the Villar/Scooter decision as an example). Thus far Yelich/Cain have been home runs. I fully expect at least one move by the deadline due to the 40 man crunch which should hopefully address what some folks here are starting to hate on him about. We'll see what comes our way.
  24. Sometimes we all get some things right: tmwiese55 Post subject: Re: Lucroy to A's - 1 year deal Posted: March 09, 2018, 4:13 PM A's are a big sleeper team imo. Offense should be potent. Not saying playoffs or WS necessarily, but I'd be comfortable betting their team over on wins and wouldn't shock me if they end up 2nd in that division or at least above .500
  25. Have to give MM and TT credit for Rodgers though. They drafted him and had the stones to go with him and face the backlash from pushing Favre out. If I recall correctly, they had to rework his throwing mechanics too after coming from the Tedford style. Are they perfect, of course not but there is credit in there too. Basically, if not for them the PAckers as one of the best few teams every year would have ended 10 years ago instead of 5 years from now. I remember the early days the crossing route offense they were running had the WR wide open. That's one of my main critiques of MM though, where has that offense gone the last few years. Now it just seems straight up improvising.
