  1. With only two spots and Brosseau back any day. It has to be him and a reliver such as Cousins. Maybe someone else gets a few days until Brosseau is back but in general it'll be those two for Sept, barring injuries. Really, a R/L combo of Bros/Jace is a fairly solid 3B. Move Urias to the utility and PR type role being discussed above since he's been so poor this year and lately. And I'm sure he'll play vs most lefties.
  2. If you concede the actual in game decisions, such as lineup order, when to yank a pitcher, who to move in and out of lineup, bullpen choices, etc are minimal just because most guys would make the same decisions. So one could argue they only matter for a small amount of games per year difference. I'm not saying that's the case, but just say you did. But I'd add one of the biggest factors a manager has is on locker room morale/culture, everyone having a positive attitude team first attitude. I guess similar to a good boss in normal world. Managers are crucial to this and it sure seems Counsel has been one of the best at it for his tenure. Though I'd grant this year doesn't seem to be as good on that front, for whatever reason. Just watching some White Sox stuff today. Thinking of their talent, and how weak their division is, it's hard to think a different manager wouldn't have won that division. Flip Francona and LaRussa and I bet that flips the division.
  3. And they had a long arbitration battle and there was a decision on his years as well they fought over. I definitely got the same vibe but both sides were professional to avoid drama/leaks. And just in general, I'm guessing Hader wanted to lock in a legit big contract recently and MKE didn't, forcing Hader to play on year to year contracts that could come back to bite him if injured or if what is happening right now were to happen. What SD does will be interesting. If they just let him go after the year I'd be surprised if LAD doesn't sign him. They'd throw 10 mil at him and hope he figures it out when no one else might be willing since money means nothing to them. SD should probably look to trade just to avoid that happening.
  4. I think the bolded is probably an overlooked part of the deadline. Thought of it but forgot to include in my post. While yes, if you win the division and make the playoffs, with the two ace pitches and Hader/Williams, it's possible to go on a run. But, the Mets and Dodgers are simply loaded this year. Yes the Dodgers aren't going anywhere for future years, but the Mets are the Mets and Scherzer is like 40. But for this year, you're not getting the bye with how poorly they've played since May. While you still want your bite at the apple, it probably wasn't the right here to go 'all in' for a slightly bigger chance. Better to stand pat (in their opinion they probably didn't noticeably lower their chances this year, since they were already quite low) and hold those prospects and theoretically increase your chances in the next 2-3 years.
  5. Probably making more of this than it really is. He was honest on how it affected the locker room whereas most guys give a cliché bs answer.. Which any of us could've said at the time was a risk of such a move mid season. I think I said something like I probably wouldn't have done it midseason without an overwhelming return (turns out they likely expected Hader's struggles to continue so that now makes sense too as a reason). It's easy to sit here and act like Coach Cooper and say 'doesnt matter you need to do your job every day' (which note, Lauer said that too) and act tough, but they're humans and this is a subconscious aspect of being a human. You just had one of your best players and best reliever in baseball the last 5ish years, a guy you've known for years taken off the team in the middle of the pennant chase. While also no clear upgrade player at any position to show you're going for it. It's perfectly understandable for that to give you a bit of *** running through your head. As he said, you have to do your best to overcome it and still perform. Easier said than done for some people though. Think back to your basic HS sports days, say you're in the playoffs or big games end of season and one of the key players is yanked off the team for whatever reason, it's gonna affect you a bit. I take it more of a just being honest on the clubhouse vibe the last few weeks. Especially since it seems they've had one of the best cultures for years, so if there's a funk it probably stands out a bit more. I do get how some could take it as a straight up criticizing management too, but I'd pump the brakes on that a bit.
  6. While I've been on the play him more side for a while now I do see the conundrum. Cutch has also been one of their best hitters since his bad first 6ish weeks and both guys are bad at D. And the two best spots to play Keston vs RHP are 2B/1B both manned by lefty hitters, one who's been solid enough all year and the other had been hot until the last week or so. At this point though, you probably just have to eat Cutch playing CF since the other options have been so bad at the plate. Yea D isn't ideal but chances are you can lift him with a lead late.
  7. Kinda feel bad for him at this point. As far as I know the velocity and the break on the slider are still there. He's probably a minor tweak from being fine again but it's shocking it's been going on for this long now. If he was tipping it would've been figured out by now. You'd think the same for a minor mechanical tweak. I'd have trusted MKEs staff to figure the mechanical stuff out by now, I don't know anything about SDs though. And after this long and this many baaad blowups there's a mental aspect to it now. I didn't put too much stock in the few bad games right before he left. He's had 2-3 short stints like that over the years and bounced back after a week or three. Figured that was the same here, but this is worse than any of those past stints and it's been much longer now so who knows.
  8. Yea I don't blame him at all for playing the business card of it all. Less innings this way, they probably think its way to reduce injury risk. For all we know he'd have been a guy who preferred to sign an extension to set him for life but since he's with MKE that wasn't possible(them playing business), thus doing what he could to reduce injury risk before FA. Another thing to ponder is how much he'd have preferred to try as a starter for the bigger payday. Sure seems MKE was right on their call but who knows how he and his agent viewed it at the time, and then possibly added to the arby stuff, etc.
  9. Yea who would've thought. I think he's said this is it for him but has to be tempting to come back another year, assuming he's healthy to finish out the year. I think I've seen him mentioned as borderline HOF type. My gut is No without doing any digging. But if you're a borderline guy, 1-2 years of counting stats might be what tips the scales. It would get him over the 200 W line too, which eventually could be viewed as an important number, not unlike 300 used to be, or 500 HRs, 3000 hits.
  10. Yea I'm glad I ended up skipping this one, was right on the fence of going. This would've been quite boring. What's funny is the team has been best it's been over the last 5ish years, but the style of play with weak O and great pitching leads to a boring game to watch. But, I'll take the winning. Hopefully this comment leads to an exciting finish and MKE winning now that I said I'm glad I didn't go
  11. One thing to add is they have seemed to jacked up the parking costs in the last few years, which is money direct to them. Yea they can't sell tailgaters beer/food but adding $10 to every car adds up through the year
  12. Right, totally agree. I was just leaving some wiggle room to avoid some nitpicking/arguing about whether he's an "Ace" since he's not at like the level of peak Kershaw, Max, etc and play any semantics on the word Ace
  13. The Field of Dreams game is tonight. I also just realized NFL starts tonight, I don't watch espn so wasn't aware until now. Made me think if it would've made sense for the FoD game to be done a week or so back to get as much exposure of it as possible back when there was nothing else going on. As I would assume most people will watch football and almost all media tonight/tomorrow will obsess over what it means that the 5th rd rookie D lineman football player had two bowel movements on a football gameday and if that means he has the proper mindset to play football on a football field in the National Football League. Yea I get it, its just a regular season game and it's two bad teams but it's a rare opportunity to market the game and when mlb is actually doing something fun.
  14. No way. A starter's value is vastly more important, like, it's not even close. He has a multi year track record of being near ace level starter, you never walk away from that. Have a quicker trigger to pull him if that data has any value in terms of 3rd time through, over X amount pitches, etc. Moreover, Woodruff would never ever agree to it with the payday he's looking at in the next two years. Starters get much bigger contracts, well because they're so much more valuable.
  15. apologies then, I assumed that's what you were referencing. Either way, CC has proven to be one of the best manager's in the league even if we can all nitpick things and of course he makes mistakes
  16. Yet somehow he continues to keep hitting. I get he's not perfect and has holes, so does pretty much everyone on our team. But if you grab many players and just say don't play them because they can't hit if pitched this pitch you won't be left with many players.
  17. And you'll continue to be told you're wrong. You're upset about leaving in an ace type pitcher who's dealing in the 7th inning when he only has 70 something pitches thrown? Bring in Boxberger and he gives up a run and you'd be saying how can you take out one of your aces at 75 pitches!! Take a deep breath.
  18. IDK, HRs in back to back game and hitting the ball hard on outs. Probably means he won't do that in his next few games, seems like a good spot to send him down. Chess not checkers.
  19. Probably have to go with a D at this point. Obviously it's only been two days so hopefully these Ps at least do ok and help out to make this not be as bad as it looks right now.
  20. I guess I'm still at the same point as my gut reaction, I was generally fine with trading him as it makes sense with the contract and having Williams. But I thought you should get more than this back in order to be enticed to do it midseason, and to a team we're competing against. Don't think they'd have had a hard time getting two quality minor leaguers back in the offseason similar to what they got here. Keeps you competing now for the division and having two complete aces to lockdown end of games and without the bad PR and bad vibes in the locker room That said, I do like everything I've read on the two guys they've gotten.
  21. Unless I missed an acquisition I think Hous needs one too. Just had Maldonado recently so Narv would be a good LH compliment to him
  22. It's also often forgotten that Rivera essentially blew two WS titles in his career, the AZ one and multiple games to Bos to blow the 3-0 lead. Obviously he's still great and one of the best ever, it just shows even the best aren't perfect.
  23. Yea I was generally open to trading Hader. However, I expected the return to be overwhelming if it happened mid season, and likely to include a ready to help hitter in it. So I'd lean towards the side that's a bit underwhelmed on it. Basically the trade seems fine/fair, but to do it now I expected more. in order to downgrade for this year where they're almost for sure making the playoffs. Essentially just saying I thought you'd get a similar return in the offseason. But, I like they got a solid reliever to take his spot right now. And it wouldn't surprise me if they think they can turn Lamet into a big help right now (if he's healthy, best I could tell in a few seconds of looking it up is that he is). I'll wait to hear what others say on the prospects.
  24. Noticed someone mentioned will there be charging stations in rental apartments, etc. Due to managing a property I became aware of a law/code that all new apartment/condo type buildings have to be built with charging stations, at least in WI(ETA: hindsight could be Madison). Top of my head, I think it's something like it has to be 30% of the allowed cars/stalls, or something of that nature. Old buildings are grandfathered and don't have to add them. But if all new ones have them and you don't it will really hurt your ability to rent, or sell, down the line. So many will eventually pay up the money to get up to the new code/rule.
  25. No need to go down that wormhole. If anything it's at least a testament to modern science, haha. Heck, think what they could now 20 years later
