    I meant when Hader was a FA. It was the most obvious fit possibly ever. Instead, its continued as a weakness for LA since and they keep shoveling money at it that fails. Had to scramble last postseason and got lucky that Sasaki flopped as a starter but did good at it this in the playoffs. ETA: I suppose they realize the mistake and that's why they went all out for what was a true elite in Diaz, but then he got hurt right away. They're not dumb though, I'm sure they were willing to pay Hader as he was the best reliever of this era before Miller came along, that was my question though. I wonder if he just didn't want to be there

    I'd toss out that this year I've gotten the vibe that its more about business and the postseason, that it isn't about the regular season anymore. Like they're not gonna get all fired up about winning regular season games anymore. The kind of act like you've been there before type thing and some of the criticism they heard about treating beating the cubs like it was the WS. Generally speaking, I'd say that isn't a good thing in such a long season and can lead to being too tense or putting pressure on yourself. And enjoying the ride is better for staying loose. Who knows though, we just watch on TV

    In somewhat unrelated news, with all the money LAD just throws around buying all the best players along with their only weakness being closer since Kenley fell off I don't get why they didn't buy Hader. It was a complete perfect fit. Almost have to wonder if he just did not want to play for them or be in LA

    Yea this is some bad luck on timing to happen right after the deadline, plus 3 AAA options hit the DL at the same time. So you're stuck with free agents or what's left in AAA. I guess Wilken is there but he's been awful and you'd have no one that can competently play 2b/ss in a pinch. There has to be someone out there better than Bae who can at least swing a bat. At least Ortiz is back and looks fine, hopefully Turang is just a couple days now

    Only 8-10% of starts go 7 innings these days. And we just had two guys go into the 7th and 8th recently. 5-6 is totally normal, its just the way it is now. Expecting or criticizing that folks don't go beyond is just not in touch with how things are done anymore.

    Two lefties coming up on the weekend and sit Turang tonight instead. His off days should be vs lefties. Plus on a day when you're playing a week defensive 1B and 3B. But I get it, have to find a way to keep bunty in there

    I did many years ago when it came out. That's top notch TV all the way. Rhys and Russell are as good as it gets. Be prepared that its a bit slower than some people prefer. But its good all the way to a solid conclusion and the rare show without much for plot holes or unrealistic things you have to just ignore and chalk up to being TV. I really only remember one so-so storyline/character development that I didn't like, and even that wasn't that bad and I think was mostly just being a bit above the actors ability. Its been years though so I could be remember that wrong and generally can't remember everything about the show.

    I'd put it more on Bauers since Ashby is a lefty falling off the other direction vs a fast runner, he barely hesitated at all on it. IMO if Bauers books it right away he beats him. instead he assumed a toss right away and didn't even try. In hindsight, I wonder after Bauers waited and then knew Ashby wouldn't win the race if he'd have pump faked the toss but threw home or caught Tatis in a rundown would've worked. Would've been a very heads up play, would probably need a camera angle to see where Tatis was at that point to really know. Plus the way Sanchez was yesterday on d he'd have dropped the ball. Besides the O in general, I'd put in on a combo of Patrick/Ashby being bad. That might've been the worst Patrick threw all year and his results could've been way way worse. Ashby has been so shaky with runners on for a while, I'd have gone with Megill there instead.

    And if the defensive issues are the question, both of the bunty scrapper utility guys botched balls in the last two games. With them saying Pratt isn't a minimum stay, I think they should try this move to change something up. Let him play every day for a couple weeks, Hamilton to backup

    jeez you had to get that guy in. Also, think its been a bit overlooked that Turang should be in a platoon but you don't have enough RH hitters to do it

    Since Ortiz has gotten good-ish there sure has been a lot of times the bottom has put two guys on only to have the top of the order put up terrible ABs

    He's also been hurt so maybe they think his movement is a bit limited right now and want to give him less strain at the moment. That's my guess on it

    FYI on this for the Dodgers. I really only learned of this specific perk recently, I'd always thought they just got the normal treatment that all get with their local TV deals. Theirs is even moreso due to the bankruptcy when sold. From what I understand, there's nothing MLB can do about it until the deal expires.     I generally fall on the side of bringing a guy like this up to get his feet wet rather than the scrap heap pick up guys. I get they're in a weird spot with the lockout issue coming, but I think I'd still lean this route. Unless they're very confident Ortiz will be back today/tomorrow and its no big deal and that Pratt is likely a minimum stay. If both of those things are true I get why they've held off on doing it. But if Pratt's injury could have some length you might as well get this guy up and get him comfortable

    That's too bad, definitely wouldn't mind him being on the shuffle up and down as needed. I'm sure he knows it would only be a matter of time until he's needed again. Plus we're pretty much the only team he has success with

    Their pitching is awful and its likely impossible for them to do much about anytime soon while playing in Sacramento. But yes, when healthy they have a heck of an offensive lineup.

    I'd guess more around 40. Been around since I've been going to games there, which is about 20 years but it was already a 'thing' at that point.

    Yes, Bonds was good when he came up young (750-850 ops with 16-25hr). Then he took a massive leap at age 25 to best in the world (usually around 1 ops and over 40 hrs) from then on. That's what the discussion was about, trying to think of people like that.

    First, well that wasn't what the discussion was about. It was guys who took a big leap after a few years after having come up early. Bonds is in the discussion. Second, he hit .777ops with 19 hrs. If he had a high WAR pushed by great D, ok thats great, but he hit 777 with 19 hrs. That is far from superstar. Those years he batted between .223-280 avg with normal to good walks on top, and didn't have more than 25 HRs. He made zero AS games, and appears to have received zero MVP votes, again not quite "superstar" but still good. And remember, this was a much more hitter friendly time. Then the next year he exploded to win MVP and increase his OPS 200 pts. IDK to me, this lines up pretty darn well with what the original discussion point.

    the year before at age 24 he had a 777 ops with 19 hrs in a full season. had a couple better years before that in the 840 ops ballpark with 25hr. IDK, seems kind of exactly what we're talking about here. That's perfectly good/fine for someone up young playing in their low 20s (remember that was a much easier hitting environment than now). The boom came at age 25

    You could probably put Barry Bonds in that same discussion. Came up young, did ok/fine. Massive breakout at 25 years old. Then for some reason had another breakout/leap at 36 years old
