  1. yea Jansen sure hasn't paid off. Supposed to be a lefty masher and it just hasn't happened. Sure I get haase is just blah but he was perfectly fine to me, usually came up with a hit/walk per game and seemed to have a bit of knack for coming through. I get wanting to upgrade where possible, especially if Contreras were to get hurt, but it just hasn't worked. Miller move as well didn't work. simpler route probably was just getting a good reliver who wasn't coming off an injury rather than jumping through all the hoops to get him. Hand might've been forced behind the scenes with Cortes wanting out but still a non-injure guy had to be there. Miller was awesome this year though, so i get why they wanted him
  2. He was given at least one day off. And keep in mind they were missing 3 OFs in the rotation for a chunk of that span with Chourio, Collins, Perkins. Four if you count backup OF Bauers. Frelick I think even got hurt for a few days in there. At one point they were having to start someone named Steward Berroa for a few days. In spite of all that, Yelich also DHd most of the time which is about as easy as one can take it in baseball.
  3. I saw something a few weeks ago trying to explain what's happened to him and my remembrance is a thought is that their pitch selection/location is messing up the tunnelling so its less deceiving as to which pitch is coming. Something like they where they are trying to locate each pitch gives it away which is coming quickly. He might be mentally cooked right now regardless for this season, but it wouldn't surprise me at all that brewers coaching could fix him.
  4. Two more defensive botches tonight and really still not much to show for results at the plate lately either. The way this team treats D its shocking the leash he's gotten just due to defense. Probably have to keep tapering off the platoon more as the month goes on. The way it is as of now you can't start him in a playoff game, might as well get Durbin abs against righties to prep for it as much as possible. But still, starts here and there to rest others and to keep him involved are fine. But the time has to be coming that enough is enough
  5. I don't see what difference it makes if you plan him as 2-3 innings person whether it comes to start the game or in the middle of the game. Since he's been starting its probably easier to keep the routine and yank after one time through or as soon as he struggles anytime in inning 3 or later. That said, with how he's struggled a bit combined with his innings limits and Miller/Megill hurt. I could certainly see a logic in starting to prep him now or soon to be a one inning guy for the playoffs to take one of those spots.
  6. Hindsight it would've been nice to find a way to keep Cortes. I think we all were a bit surprised when that went down. Wouldn't surprise me if there was a behind the scenes discussion with his agent that led to it, impending FA for him and everything. Bad luck on timing that everyone was healthy at the time causing the logjam. Without going back and digging too deep the possible route to a spot for him was probably Miz down for a few weeks (which happened a week later anyway) or until someone else got hurt or schedule demanded it. But at the time how could you send Miz down
  7. Remember AZ did this to us in the second game in AZ too. I think it was a blown 5-0 lead in the 8th, something like that
  8. AZ had the #1 offense in the league last year. And I think are 3rd or 4th in OPS this year too. Even with losing the two guys at the deadline its more than an adequate O. Still, this is a crazy meltdown by the pitching/D
  9. Games played in Vegas next year, interesting. In addition to what you said on the last two months, those are generally against what should be good teams too. Other than Pit Also, I will never get why they schedule the off day after opening day for teams with a dome. So MKE is denied a Friday home opener again.
  10. I'm far from a knee jerk person. I get what they're trying to do with him and want to give him a good fair chance, and generally he'd been getting some better results until recently. To me, the first time I started thinking enough is enough was the defensive F ups in saturday's games. I know one wasn't technically an error but a good defender at least keeps it in the infield. The other was a huge botch to cost them runs. I'm at the point that they should tone down the platoon a bit. Sure, some starts to keep giving him a try and to rest others. But PH at clutch situation purely because of platoons I think can go away, maybe management has agreed too since they didn't do it last night and it ended up with Durbin hitting a big HR
  11. If things fall the right way and Tobias isn't needed on say Wed/Thurs he could just take the start on Friday. I'd rather him out there for 4-5 innings than Gasser in first game back
  12. In addition, since his two are Curve/FB its easy to identify which is which. That's why the FB/slider combos are usually better or more difficult to hit.
  13. Yup, that hot streak scoring 8 runs plus over and over can't be expected to continue so coming back to reality was bound to happen. Also seemed the Cubs series and at least yesterday had lots of hard hits that got caught, which is baseball. For example, Vaughn had at least 3 well hit balls that were barely caught. I think at least two were runners on too, if one or two of those fall they likely cruise to win. I think his 4th could be considered hard hit too but it was at the SS so either way just a single (not sure if runners were on) On paper he had an 0/4, but in reality he hit very well yesterday
  14. Ouch, and here comes the fear at the deadline. Hopefully it's just 2-3 weeks and he can get a couple weeks of ABs in before the playoffs.
  15. Yea he's not totally wrong. Not a fan of that style of ranting but that's the world these days. If I was them, if Tucker is hurt then DL him today and backdate it. But if you need to play him due to who he is, today probably should have been an off day for Happ. He's been ok this series but in general he's been rough this year. Tough to bench the rookie today after how he's played, so get him out in left. So then it comes down to Castro/Shaw, just go with Shaw since he's been good these games. Castro has been fine too though so not much to get worked up about on that decision. ETA: With how this is going. doubt Tucker is back though which is good for us. They gave a good package for him including a good cheap starting OF for the next 7 years in that deal. Could have had their whole OF set with him, PCA, the new rookie all for league min the next 5-6 years. Tucker is costing himself a fortune unless he can prove he's been hurt. Still, not like he's not gonna get 200 mil from someone.
  16. Didn't Mears throw like 4 pitches? with how the BP has been I'd probably try for another out of him instead of Anderson here but we'll see
  17. remember he had one last night to that was a rocket to the wall. Don't recall if it was caught or was the one that was almost caught. But that was a homer almost any other day. Quite the power run he's been on
  18. But it is true. If that ball gets pulled a bit its a double and they're ahead. If its a few feet to the right its a single. By hitting it very hard it increases the chances of all that happening since the D doesn't have time to get to it. In reality, it is 'luck' in the sense that of where it goes in a say 20-30 ft radius. The harder you hit it though the higher the chances. By hitting it so hard it is essentially has to go right at someone, which is bad luck when it does
  19. A factor in that is being a switch hitter. Turang is the obvious guy to move up but he and Frelick back to back L is the issue
  20. I've thought he's generally looked good in his recent callups and then you see reports like this about how he's been in AAA. Makes me think a descent route from here could be to have him take Miz's spot and start moving Miz into a 1-2 inning reliever role in the Burns/Hader mold of 2018. His innings are going to have to be limited anyway, and Tobias seems in a good spot to start. Wonder if the discussion will start if Miz struggles again next time out Side note: I still don't get why they didn't let him try to finish Sunday's game
  21. Yes, if MKE wins today they will have lost a whopping .5 games in the standings over the last week. Sure, it wasn't a good week as you could've essentially ended it and have instead let them linger. But its far from panic time. As of now, there's no reason to think the team is going to have a meltdown type finish to blow it. And really, with the abundance of pitching on the team it would be shocking if that happens.
  22. It ended up not mattering, but it was a split second from ending the game. The SB attempt on a 3-1 count when the pitcher is being very wild was kind of dumb and not worth the risk
  23. This was the big concern when not adding anyone at the deadline. What if an IF gets hurt and you all of a sudden have to rely on Mono to start for a long time or playoffs. Didn't help to have Castro hit a ding dong and gun a guy at the plate in the same game that this happened. But hopefully its just a couple days off and he'll be fine.
  24. Yes its almost at barring historic collapse or historic run by the Cubs level of being over. Really, if not for the 5 gamer as a big variable you could be saying it now. As someone just said, this time next week will say alot. Assuming normal-ish occurrences for the next week it will essentially be at the "barring historic..." point. But, if Cubs go 4-1 or 5-0 in that it changes everything. This next week is big. Just simply go 4-4 in these 8 games and you're good to go. Also, if it goes even better than that to kind of close the door its big for planning roster/injury returns and all that.
