  1. He really didn't get much of a chance, but he certainly wasn't cutting it in his short stint. At this point we need to get stable guys in here we can count on. I think in the long run he would have been okay...but the time ran out on him.
  2. They are doing the same exact thing right now. They even admitted they are pretty much disregarding the defense so they can upgrade the offense. It's not the same. That team was bad all around defensively. Right now the Brewers have an elite defensive outfield, plus one of the best young defensive shortstops. Pina is no slouch behind the plate either. Average 1st base defense + above average at 3rd. Below average at 2nd will not kill this team imo. It doesn't matter what the rest of the team can or cannot do. If Travis Shaw is worth -20 runs at 2B it is 20 more runs given up. No ones good defense is going to help Shaw cover ground and turn plays at 2B. The Brewers know this. They believe the offensive gain will be more than what Shaw is going to botch at 2B defensively. That is what matters...not Cain's great CF defense.
  3. They are doing the same exact thing right now. They even admitted they are pretty much disregarding the defense so they can upgrade the offense.
  4. Winners of 4/5 (the world isn’t falling apart?!) Soria Moustakas Stearns says a move or two before the end of Tuesday is likely!
  5. I wouldn’t be so sure about that. The Brewers were going after Moustakas last winter. The only reason I am confident Moustakas is a rental is because we would have to decide on his option before the offseason ever ramps up. Making it difficult to commit to Moustakas at 3rd and trading Shaw for that lovely pitcher we wanted in the offseason. Safe to say they will decline the option, but he could be resigned if we do indeed package Shaw for a TOR starter. I don’t necessarily disagree with you, but I really hate when people give opinions as facts and don’t provide any reasoning for it.
  6. One of the biggest concerns with Ray was his power translating. Now that his power isn’t in question anymore he really should get more credit than he does. Could his K-rate use work? Sure, but it isn’t a dealbreaker and I could say that about many prospects below AAA.
  7. Yup, he could be really useful getting those guys in on 3rd base the lower half of our line-up strikes out to leave stranded all the time. On another note I finally saw Shaw’s interview after the game yesterday (in text version) and he seems less than confident with 2nd base...so we shall see.
  8. The move seems depsperate and crazy...but the Brewers must love something about Moustakas. They went after him in FA and here he is now. I’m going to assume the prices on actual 2B were just too high for Stearns liking...like way higher than he would give up. I’d rather of had Dozier, but I’m guessing he is commanding a real nice package. Moustakas only took a couple solid prospects...but something we won’t look back on and regret losing (hopefully). I’m also not too concerned about Shaw at 2B because obviously the Brewers have to be really confident in what they are seeing in practice to make a move like this. I wish we would acquire some talent that will help after this year, but that is an expensive thing to do...especially midseason. There will be ample opportunity this winter to fill holes and of course I bet Hiura is with us pretty quickly next year to be our 2B unless he goes to acquire a TOR guy. Not to mention Burnes and Peralta AND Nelson all should be strong rotation candidates for next year. How much do we want to invest to go get a controllable starter when we already have a lot of great guys for next year? So yah, in a way getting rentals ain’t a bad idea. The winter is filled with opportunities to worry about 2019.
  9. The only way to fix that is to replace him honestly.
  10. Really the most important thing is that Moose can hit well and Shaw can play some acceptable defense. It would help our offense and team so much. Though I guess this means Arcia is likely going to be a second pitcher the rest of the year in our line-up? Not sure what is out there and we would even make another addition up the middle? Catcher? Probably dreaming...I just don’t like still having two black holes outside of the pitcher. Regardless I predict the acquisition of a starter.
  11. Where is this 40 man roster that holds unlimited amounts of prospects you speak of? Apparently you should call Stearns and let him know where it is so we never have to dump a prospect again. Do we play 4 OF at a time as well? What is your problem? I fully am aware of the roster crunch and these guys were highly expendable. I have said many times Phillips in particular was destined to be traded at the deadline. Doesn’t mean we had to go acquire a bunch of rentals or these ones specifically. I also think that 40 man roster crunch is incredibly overblown. A lot of the guys are either not worth protecting or would never get selected/make it through an entire MLB season. I just found it interesting we have now used three legit prospects (doesn’t mean they are great) to get a few rentals. One of which moves Shaw to 2nd...which hopefully goes well, but who knows. I’m not judging it or any other trade until after the deadline and after Shaw sees some extended time at 2nd. Those were just my quick takes when seeing the trade. Apologizes you didn’t like the word “dump”.
  12. I didn’t say Phillips was the top prospect he used to be or Lopez. However, both are really solid prospects. That’s a hefty price to pay for a not so world beater 3B for a two months. It made all the sense in the world to trade the three players we have sent off (thank god I can stop putting Phillips in every trade proposal). All for rentals though. Not saying it is particularly a bad thing, but if don’t make the postseason what a giant waste...
  13. Well this will all depend on Shaw’s defense at 2nd, but to summarize... We just traded two legit prospects away for another rental that is going to shift Shaw over to 2nd (to likely play bad defense) and Moose isn’t even that great of a hitter...? Umm...face value (I just woke up first time seeing these trade) this seems like way too much to give up and not that great of an idea period. We have now thrown away Medeiros, Lopez, and Phillips for two rentals. Better be adding to the rotation and truly making a run now. I was hoping when I saw a trade with the Royals it would be Merrifield...not Moose.
  14. There is not one person in this organization more destined to be traded than Brett Phillips.
  15. I really doubt it. More likely they will roll the dice at SS and acquire a 2B. What I don’t see is not making a nice improvement at a MI position...so Dozier would be my prediction. Though at the cost some guys are getting this deadline...who knows if Stearns would dare pull the trigger.
  16. Welp, that is a bit dissapointing. Arcia probably isn’t the answer and th rest of our middle infield is garbage. Stearns simply has to acquire a middle infielder.
  17. The Brewers want a strong bullpen. It’s painfully obvious by the way they used Hader, making Burnes start his MLB career as a reliever, and now spending assets for a good reliever rental. I’d say the chances of Burnes going to the rotation are close to zero. They will do everything in there power to keep him in the pen. That’s why they want to get a starter in my opinion. Preserve solid rotation depth that won’t require an filling into their pen guys. And of course finding another stable trustworthy option. Believe it or not Burnes is unproven and sticking him in the rotation is quite risky. Right now we are trotting our Miley and Peralta. One guy won’t last to the end of the season and the other is pretty risky to count on.
  18. Everyone is going to hit balls hard once in awhile. These pitchers are throwing 90+ mph. Stick the bat out and the ball flies 350 feet. I do not care how many hard hit balls you have. The way he looks at the plate every single one of those hard hit balls could fall to the ground and his stats would still be borderline pitcher worthy.
  19. I doubt Stearns is sitting in his office going, “Okay we are getting a bat or a starter.” He would get both if the prices were right. If the offensive improvements aren’t worth the prices it won’t happen. He would love to add offense just as much as all of us.
  20. You get the help as it becomes available...not by need. The deadline didn’t pass yet.
  21. It’s a try out to see how bad we may need a SS. I wish him the best of luck trying to not look like Chase Anderson.
  22. Santana may well be non-tendered or there will be something worked out - maybe a DSL lottery ticket or two if DS gets lucky. Villar... he's still relatively young, has position versatility, and switch-hits. If the Brewers are keeping a lot of pitchers, he will probably be around as a replacement for or supplement to Hernan Perez. Right now, I see him worth a couple of lottery tickets as well. No chance Santana is non-tendered...none. Villar barring a turnaround is likely going to find himself non-tendered.
  23. No...pretty sure that is only if we buy out of the deal. There is really no “buying out” for the player. Unless he pays us $1mil which would be cool.
  24. Yah, they are picking up that option if they are giving up Medeiros. Also a given they will make other moves.
  25. Only a matter of time and we will have one of two middle infielders minimum. Just my thoughts on it. We have to upgrade before the deadline and these two guys make the most sense offensively.
