  1. Well if you take Hader off the table it’s pretty problematic as we don’t have any really elite prospects. Not sure what else on the MLB team you would sacrifice. If another team really values Arcia he is an option, but I don’t think his value is very high these days. Noah Syndergaard is crazy good and crazy controllable. If the Mets put him on the market (highly doubtful to impossible) I’d think you are looking at: Orlando Arcia Keston Hiura Freddy Peralta Corbin Burnes That would be the minimum I would think. Syndergaard is similar to Chris Sale and he commanded arguably the best prospect in baseball, another elite prospect, and two other solid prospects. We don’t have anything close to Moncada and honestly I think they would demand an elite potential guy that I’m just not sure we can offer. I’m not sure where to even peg Arcia’s trade value and Burnes has been pretty bad. We would essentially be offering quantity over quality.
  2. Honestly I have a hard time seeing Freddy Peralta start long term. His control is beyond bad, but as we know the stuff is greatand he is really young. Burnes is probably the safer bet as a starter. Though if we are going to be a bullpen focused staff Freddy Peralta could be something real nice.
  3. As I have mentioned before Peralta and Burnes aren’t really realistic options. Both will hit innings limits making them useless come September sometime. If you depend on Jimmy Nelson...good luck.
  4. Well I was inferring to elite...or close to elite. Outside of 2007-2008 he has been rather average. Somehow in 2008 he managed to not make the ASG or receive an MVP vote despite a 7.4 WAR.
  5. I don’t think he really has a legitimate shot. He is 34 and still (realistically) 5-6 years away from getting there. Assuming he gets starting ABs and plays decently. Amazing how close he will get though. Could easily see him end over 2500 and he has never really been that good.
  6. The conversation is way off topic so this will be my last post in the discussion threads: Whether you think it is possible he didn’t do it or not it doesn’t matter. You would be drafting someone who plead guilty and that is how he will be viewed. You have to take on the PR monster of a guilty man, because that’s how the justice system decided it. I’d guess any team thinking about drafting him sees the way Oregon State and their fans treat him as hope you could get past any negative PR pretty easily.
  7. For right or wrong it will be interesting to see how his baseball career goes. Notable Oregon State and their fans seem to support him and cheer him on...so I’m not sure how that will change at the next level. It already appears he could be pretty widely embraced...at least by his home team and fans. An anonymous executive thinks a team could handle the PR...but...I mean...man idk. Your talking about trotting out a guy in front of fathers with daughters at the game. That just sounds like a not so family friendly day at the ballpark.
  8. Sorry my post was greatly taken out of proportion. I was curious where the line is drawn on moral issues. It just seems to taken some odd twists and turns when it comes to sports. It wasn’t meant to say if Heimlich isn’t okay then Braun isn’t. Not my point. Really the Heimlich situation made me think of moral issues in general and how they get perceived in sports. Domestic violence in the NFL is a death sentence, but not so much in the MLB. DUIs in reality is really bad, but just ignored by fans in sports. Fernandez is probably the most extreme case that gets applauded after pretty bad stuff. Adrian Peterson is pretty normalized now even after whipping his own child. No, that wasn’t my opinion. I was simply asking the question and then providing a different look. I still stated I wasn’t really sure what to think of him.
  9. I’m sorry you guys are having trouble reading. I NEVER compared Braun, Jeffress, or anyone else to Heimlich to justify what he did. I mentioned them as other moral wrong doings that we all seem to turn a blind eye to and was curious where one is suppose to draw the line? Never compared them or tried to use those to justify Heimlich. I will always get a good chuckle when people turn into psychology experts and act like they know everything. Especially state their opinion as fact. All I am saying is if you think every 13-15 year old is at the same developmental age you are sadly mistaken. I just find it interesting the weird line drawn on moral issues when it comes to sports. I didn’t even give an opinion on anyone I mentioned in my post. I just listed other players and there moral wrongdoings.
  10. Did I say that? Anywhere? Nope, so back off. Didn’t even infer that.
  11. Why not draft Heimlich? Where exactly are we suppose to draw moral line? Just looking at the Brewers we have a nice slate of questionable moral decisions made by our players. -Jeremy Jeffress has a substance abuse problem and drove drunk. -Ryan Braun proved to be a pretty terrible human for a little while. -K-Rod best a woman/wife I believe? -Domestic violence across the league multiple times. What he did is seriously messed up don’t get me wrong. He was young though and while he probably knew it was wrong he might not have understood the magnitude of wrong. He was at a confusing age 13-15 when he did it. Despite popular belief not everyone was as mature as the typical person at the age. Does he deserve a chance? I don’t know. I don’t know that the PR hit is worth it. I don’t really get how some people deserve second chances, but others are automatically scum. Some people are applauded after doing wrong if they try to make up for it...doubt this kid would get a warm welcome if he tried to do anything good. Once again I’m not sure what to think of him. I just find it interesting how much hate this wrong doing gets while the majority just doesn’t care about DUIs, cheaters, liars, and domestic violence in this sport. Heck we celebrate and remember Jose Fernandez who did hard drugs and possibly/probably killed some of his friends crashing a boat under the influence. His number will hang in the rafters forever.
  12. Lorenzo Cain has been using that bat missing a huge chunk for what feels like a month.
  13. Pointless to really think about honestly. If we take back Haniger/Banda you first assume they would be successful here. Haniger May have altered something along the way we would have never done making him a 4th OFer. I think of this scenario often when we traded Segura. While he ended up great after leaving it is because of something the D Backs changed. He would likely still suck if we kept him. Another problem is the fact we are and have always been pretty loaded with OFers. Would Haniger ever really gotten a chance here? He never was a highly touted guy so not like holding onto him and trading him later would have meant higher value at the time of trade. I guess maybe some increase, but certainly not enough to make some obvious increase in return. Even if you assume he stayed and we played him (having the same success he is having now) what dominos would that have created. No Brinson? Santana traded? ?????? Hindsight the trade did nothing for us in 2014 and I don’t really like Davies. However the dominos keeping him would have created might have been bad.
  14. I’m okay focusing on positional players early on in this draft. It seems the pitchers are pretty limited as is, but a little deeper going into rounds 3-5.
  15. Yah, at this point a team isn’t going to sign him unless they have lots of spare money from underslotting. Since he was a second half 1st rounder I would guess he might have tipped teams that he isn’t likely to sign.
  16. The pick is fine in my mind. We are picking in the 20s so I didn’t exactly expect someone world beating. I think he is a limited ceiling high floor guy. I think he is a future starter at SS, but not sure the star potential is really there. Hard to really project a HS SS though.
  17. Thank god Adams is gone. Which means he is probably a future HOFer.
  18. My preferences in order of people I believe could be there when we pick (though I have some other I really like too): Ethan Hankins Jackson Kowar Noah Naylor Nander De Sedas
