  1. Jonathan Villar: .279/.348/.426 .774 OPS Good luck improving on that or even feeling the need to. The power has been there the last month and his BA/OBP split has ended up way closer to what I think Villar is actually capable of.
  2. I’m not a big fan of calling Davies a “slow starter” and giving him a free pass. First off small sample size warning for the whole slow starter thing. He struggled greatly to start last year in April/May...in 2016 he struggled in April (3 starts), but rebounded by May. Zach Davies needs to be replaced if he is still a garbage pitcher come July. No need to panic because he is just coming back from an injury. We have a whole month plus some to decide if he is acceptable or not. However Zach Davies relies so heavily on his control. If that shoulder injury throws him off even slightly he is quickly subpar.
  3. exactly. Until he can have a clean inning or 3, he should be nowhere near a closing situation. If we were going to use a “prime” reliever cause they all have sat so much he seemed like the best choice.
  4. Knebel should pitch in this game. Give him an easy spot to pitch in. There is virtually no need for him tomorrow with Jeffress and Hader so fresh.
  5. Everyone is so stuck on arguing on the rule (it wasn’t legal anyway). You can have a dirty play that is technically legal. Legal or not that play is pretty disgusting. He takes out the catchers legs who doesn’t even see him sliding in...that extremely dangerous. He had no way to avoid that. As mentioned he is also out by a mile. No excuse to be sliding that hard into home when you were out before ever starting your slide. Middle infielders see a player coming at least. Most players also don’t slide that hard into the player either. Bad mistake on Rizzo...he is a good guy and player. Be better in the future.
  6. Hiura, Peralta/Burnes, and someone else pretty highly touted I’d guess for MadBum.
  7. That specific play is done the same way every day in almost every game. It only being questioned because of a freak accident. It is questionable because if Perez is paying attention, he knows the pitcher is running. Combine that with the fact he could see the play at 2b wasn't just an easy toss - yeah I blame Perez. It was an easy toss. It was only tough because our SS was roller skating on the side of his ankle halfway to the bag.
  8. When July rolls around show Stearns this game and he will see all we need to fix at the deadline.
  9. That specific play is done the same way every day in almost every game. It only being questioned because of a freak accident.
  10. Bring in the VETERAN GRIT to turn the game around! Probably means Arcia will get recalled when he totally doesn’t deserve it or even ready.
  11. False, he is just utter garbage this year. Doesn’t matter where. Hard to say he is any worse at home this year.
  12. Everybody regresses to the mean. A $90M payroll is what it is, no matter if they overachieve for a few months. See 2012, 2017, etc. We all know what it will look like come September 1 and September 28. Really solid argument. Payroll=Success. Nice comparisons too with very comparable payrolls. $116mil in 2012 and $64mil in 2017.
  13. .211 in the last two weeks. I don’t have have big problem with Perez starting. Villar has struggled vs. RHP this year...probably wise not to be blinded by one AB. I guess I am pretty neutral on it.
  14. Replacing Arcia with Sogard or even Saladino has had almost no impact on scoring more runs. Sogard has done nothing since coming up again. Saladino had a couple big games and hasn't really done anything since. Saladino has essentially the same Rs and RBIs in the last week as Arcia has in the last month. That’s an impact. 4 RBI and 2 Runs scored in 20 ABs.
  15. I think we got hit by the Arrieta bullet though...dang that would have been real nice. Though who knows if he would have even signed here.
  16. Before our offensive explosion we were one of the worst offenses in the NL...only better than the Reds in our division. The last week has really turned the script though. We now are #4 in the NL in runs scored. The Cubs nearly lead before categories (RS RA). Getting rid of Arcia and improvements from Villar/Pina have really made the offense a force. To be honest I hope Arcia stays far far away from this team for awhile. I hope it is well more than 10 days.
  17. We already found out the importance of all that depth. Pretty confident we aren’t going to screw it up.
  18. I don't think Cain was an anti-Stearns move at all. People were wrong to assume he was all about going cheap and young all the time. What he's about is long-term value and winning transactions, ideally in sync with the team's current situation. Once everyone understands that, they'll do a lot better predicting what he might or might not do. It's not just about "going for it" or "building for the future" like many people suggest. He also probably isn’t dumb enough to not see a prime chance to win a World Series too. Still two long months before the deadline (a lot can change), but this is certainly shaping up to be a great opportunity to win the NL.
  19. I’d keep my eye on Cole Hamels. I have my doubts he changed overnight to be the most homer happy pitcher in baseball. We will see were he is in two months. His salary could make him a really good value in July. Chris Archer has greatly rebound lately after his rough start to the year. Probably the most Ace-like guy you will find. Tyson Ross is also a guy who has been really dominate at times this year.
  20. Absolutely huge. We can save all our elite relievers for tomorrow.
