  1. I think Lucroy(lock at this point) and Braun should make it. Though I wouldn't be surprised if Braun misses enough time to fall out of the running. Jonathan Villar is a hard one to figure out. He will have to be a coaches selection and who knows how that will shake out. His numbers are very strong and deserving up to this point. If he has a good month of June and keeps his numbers similar to what they are now I think he gets in. He will face stiff competition though. Seager/Crawford are locks and Cozart/Story/Russell all get more attention than Villar.
  2. Woah woah woah woah. That trade is horrible. Lucroy is worth Tate by himself. Ignoring Carter you would be paying $110mil for Brinson. Brinson is not worth $110mil. It would also tie up $35mil or so into two aging sluggers yearly. One of which is already horrible and the other has chronic injuries. You would have to trade Braun at that point. No one is going to be attracted by a Prince Fielder that is fat, old, and no longer has power. It would be awful...like Yuni B recreated as a fat 1B awful
  3. If we are offered Swihart +, assuming the + includes no prospects greater than Swihart, we shouldn't be trading with Boston no matter how much salary they want us to eat. Really quick example. Insert any name you so desire.
  4. I don't get this whole, "We shouldn't have to pay anything so if we have to forget it NO TRADE!" That seems a bit...foolish. If we are offered Swihart+ and have to pay $25mil we shouldn't? Then instead pay Braun $100mil and get no prospects to help with the future. Id rather pay a little money and get some players for the next competitive team than watch Braun get paid $100mil to play on a garbage team.
  5. Honestly I would probably accept that trade every day of the week because of Moncada. You just don't find players like that often. If a team really believed in Swihart the combination of Moncada/Swihart would be an enormous return. However I don't think it is a good deal. That deal is basically Braun/Peralta for Moncada/Castillo, then Lucroy for Swihart. The first part of that is probably fair, but I think Lucroy could garner a little more himself. Then again how many teams are going to offer a mega prospect? So maybe there is some sacrifice there.
  6. Who cares IF they do? He is a 26 year old guy who doesn't field well and doesn't swing the bat. He is essentially a pitcher who doesn't pitch. While I agree there is no risk in Oakland taking him back, I dont see much reward either, though I havent checked out their minor league rosters to see who he would displace. They didnt put him on the 40 man and exposed him to the rule 5 for a reason though. Didn't say I did care. (I don't)
  7. You aren't paying Braun to play for another team. You are paying to acquire prospects.
  8. Oakland would take him back. They can throw him back in the minor leagues at that point. Little risk.
  9. Looking at the draft order I would have to agree attempting an underslot plan might be ill advised. The Reds, Braves, and Padres all have a ton of picks before we have our second pick. Actually I can only see one scenario where drafting Zack Collins to save money would make sense. It would probably take Groome, Perez, Pint, and Puk being picked before us for that to make any sense. If that happens you could probably count on the four teams before you signing the picks near slot. However, as mentioned the Padres still have three picks to play with even if that happened.
  10. He we actually end up with over a million dollars since next year we can only reduce it so much.
  11. Regarding the roof the motors were replaced sometime recently which I think was semi expensive. I don't think there are any other major repairs it will ever encounter in the stadiums lifetime. I am not a supporter of major renovations. In my opinion they are a stupid waste of money. Why spend $300mil+ to renovate something old? It's like a junk car. You throw a lot of money into it for repairs, but in the end you still have an old car. There is a reason you don't see major renovations...they just aren't worth the money unless you can't get together a little more to build a whole new one. The only reason you saw it with Wrigley is because they wanted to preserve the old stadium. Their renovations are over $500mil...the cost of Miller Park to build. Could have just built a replica at that price and not have had the the same old stadium with problems.
  12. However this part says the Red Sox wouldn't entertain Swihart unless Braun/Lucroy are both involved and we take on money. Maybe it is just worded badly. "Castillo could work as an offset for Braun’s contract if the teams would rather go that direction rather than having the Brewers continue to pay Braun after he leaves town, and potentially motivate the Red Sox to move a guy like Swihart in a deal that got them both Braun and Lucroy while moving Castillo’s deal."
  13. I looked back on the Fangraphs article. It is the one back on May 3rd we have already talked about. It didn't have much thought into it and was random. The proposed deal headlined by Swihart with secondary prospects. Then the Brewers take on money and move both Braun/Lucroy. I just don't get it though. I'd think Lucroy could get that offer alone. Maybe Braun's value is lower than we can imagine...but that article is still awful. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/finding-a-trade-partner-for-ryan-braun/
  14. If we took on Sandoval Braun would be nearly free...and Fangraphs suggested this? And umm...Lucroy? This can't be so. I have to assume he just said Swihart would be included and someone for salary relief...and more would be included. Lucroy straight up for Swihart is a joke.
  15. Back surgery, complex thumb procedure, reoccurring hamstring problems, and reoccuring oblique injuries are just minor? I'd say most players don't have these problems. I'd also assume most players don't go into the season with a max amount of games they will start at 140. He isn't Troy Tulowitzki bad, but he is nowhere near being a normal ball player health wise. His back is a big concern moving forward and I imagine the same is true about his thumb.
  16. Critical or not it is the same outcome. No one is going to want a crippled Braun who cannot stay on the field. Not all of his missed time is due to his back. There are many more reasons he is missing time.
  17. I hope they trade Braun for a bag of balls just to watch you lose your mind
  18. He just keeps doing better. Was expecting him to come back down to earth a little and it seems he just keep raising the bar for himself.
  19. Ha I remember when everyone was wanting to dump Aaron Hill. His stats now make him a solid option around the league as a 3B and at 2B he is borderline Top 10. Might be if he was playing as a 2B vs. 3B. I knew he would turn it around, but dang even with that awful start his stats are impressive.
  20. They have been cautious. However that is normal rest days not all the time he has missed for his neck, wrist, and some other thing I am missing. I think he missed time for his back too. They want him on pace for 140 games and I don't know if he is even on pace for 120.
  21. You can't even begin to compare his second season to Shelby Miller's because Nelson has just started his. You are trying to assume he will stay on this pace when he only has 64innings under his belt. You have no 2nd full season to compare. Nelson has a 3 ERA after two months(10 starts) and Shelby Miller has a 3 ERA over two different years(64 starts). I'd also question Nelson's numbers improving this year. Most are quite similar or slightly worse. He has given up less hits, but I sense that as a bit of luck not a true improvement.
  22. With a different injury popping up every other day I am not going to get my hopes up. Only positive thing so far is I haven't heard anything related to his thumb yet. Has to stay on the field to keep interest for him going.
  23. What Shelby Miller is doing right now means nothing. We are talking about what he looked like at the moment he was traded and where his value was...not after. You can insult Shelby Miller all you want, but he still has three good seasons to Nelson's ZERO good seasons(maybe one if we get generous). I wouldn't trade him for anything less than a Shelby Miller type trade either(heck I would probably want more) because he has the potential to be very simlar to what Shelby Miller did in the past. He has a long way to get there though and a team would have to buy into his potential. I am not knocking on Nelson and I do think he is a similar pitcher to Miller, but when it comes to trade value it just isn't that close yet without the track record of success.
  24. We're rebuilding, we kind of have to be. What good is Jonathan Lucroy going to do us in 3 years? Unless you're just not crazy about Tate or Gallo as prospects. I think he meant the later and he said that in his second post.
