  1. I'm surprised I didn't see Del Crandall thrown out there by somebody.
  2. Wuilder Rodriguez. He's off to a great start this year, lowering his ERA to 1.29 as of today. He's 24 years old in Carolina. It might be that his age and experience are allowing him to dominate younger players, I don't know, but I think it makes sense to look for a chance to bump him to Biloxi and get a better sense of what he is or isn't.
  3. Way down thread, somebody brought up the idea of a mute button for certain sports announcers. This is an idea I'd like to see. I would love to be able to turn off the announcers and just hear the game and crowd. I don't need somebody to tell me what is happening all the time, constantly babbling. I have eyes and I understand sports.

  5. Sox Fall To Sacramento, 11-2 Cordell launches sixth home run of 2017 in defeat. The Sky Sox aim for a series split Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. MT against the Sacramento River Cats. (Paat Kelly) By Colorado Springs Sky Sox | May 13, 2017 11:43 PM ET http://www.milb.com/assets/images/2/5/8/230143258/cuts/05_13_1530s_pk_k4s0v1b1_g3u7aqhv.jpg It was a tough Saturday night for the Sky Sox and fans alike, as a promising start unraveled through innings 5,6 and 7. Ryan Cordell got them out to an early lead with a 2 run bomb in the first, scoring Kirk Nieuwenhuis. Cordell has an impressively hot 7 game hitting streak: 13 for 28, 3 2b, 2HR and 10RBI. Unfortunately his first inning shot was all the runs the River Cats pitching would surrender this evening, as Joan Gregorio settled in for 6 innings of effectively wild pitching for the win. Colorado Springs scattered 4 more singles and drew 5 walks. River Cats also got nice games from Austin Slater and Jae-Gyun Hwang, each of whom were a triple shy of the cycle. Brandon Woodruff minimized damage through the first 4 innings but ran into trouble in the 5th. He labored through 4.2 IP, giving up 5 earned runs on 94 pitches, 58 for strikes. Relievers Andy Oliver and Tim Dillard both struggled to get outs as well. Dillard went 2/3 IP with 3 ER, 2 hits, 2BB, 2 HBP. David Goforth with a nice outing of 1.2 IP, 3K. Tomorrow is a Hader day, and 50¢ hot dog day at the park. Colorado Springs Box Score Colorado Springs Game Log Col. Springs Bottom of the 1st Lewis Brinson walks. 6. Well, they just swept the Cubs, so lets just wait for Bosio's next press conference. I'm sure the entire Yankees and Rockies teams must be juiced. Otherwise, how could they have lit up the angelic and perfect Cubs pitchers? It couldn't be that the staff is getting old and they all pitched at peak levels last year and were due for a regression. Everyone else must just be cheating.
  7. It's sounding more and more like when I visit this summer I might as well plan on carrying in any food for the couple of games I am able to attend.
  8. K Rod is out of the closer's role in Detroit. [sarcasm]Maybe they can DFA him for us to pick back up and trade again.[/sarcasm] A couple other notes about the trade: If you go with BBref's WAR, post-trade KROD is cumulative .4, while PTBNL Manny Piña is at 1.1 Even if Betancourt never amounts to anything, Stearns seems to have done alright on this one. Also, there's this: https://sonsof84tigers.com/2017/05/09/the-k-rod-situation-brings-to-light-that-al-avila-must-go/
  9. I don't understand why movie directors think it's so cute to make scenes with dialogue you cannot hear without cranking up the volume and then follow it up with gunfire, explosions or other racket. It doesn't add quality to the film, it detracts from it.
  10. When did we pick up Michael Choice? I must have missed it.
  11. Here's hoping Ponce gets it back on track today against Frederick's good bats.
  12. Right now, I just don't see Milwaukee as future sellers this summer and that feels good. I also like feeling that the Brewers won't be buyers. Where there is cause to bolster the MLB club, there is talent below to "buy" from. Earlier Briggs brought up the "Eldred effect" which I remember well. Plush mentioned the power of rookie pitching, which we all know too painfully well. I'm no gambler, but I think this would have been a pretty good year to take out a long odds futures bet on the Brewers in Vegas. You just never know. This team has talent.
  13. I seem to remember LaRussa complaining.
  14. It's painful to be way up here today. How I wish I could be there to see #40's batting display today in person.
  15. And then next post: "I'm fine with the Watt pick, but I think a lot of people are just stuck on him because he's a Badger. While it would be cool, I agree with Brew4u, talent is way more important than school. " I agree with you both up to a point, but then again that's the line of thought from Wolf and Sherman that got us Terrell Buckley and Robert Ferguson.
  16. If I were a manager facing Garza I would be tempted in the 2nd inning to have everybody bunt straight at him. He probably wouldn't make it out of the inning.
  17. Great to see Harrison getting it rolling early this season, rekindling my Monte optimism.
  18. One thing I've noticed about Wheel of Fortune is the formula they use for casting their contestants: It's an attractive lady, a normal lady, and a man. If it isn't 100% of the time, it must be 99%.
  19. Seems basically as expected except Franklin for Braun. I guess I would have preferred Aguilar at 1st and Thames in LF if Braun was going to get a day off, but oh well. cubs appear to have their Sunday lineup in place also.
  20. I have no idea what he took, but is it possible he was taking something to help him stay healthy on the field? When I go to games I want to see the best players on the field...not Elian Herrera. A doping agent called nandrolone. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nandrolone
  21. I remember hearing all the loud yelling throughout the neighborhood, including myself and family, as we were all listening to it on the radio. It was a glorious day.
  22. I decided to clean up my freezer and smoke 4 of my old salmon. I tried a dry brine this time instead of my usual wet brine, and now I don't plan on going back. Simple, easy, and great results. Mix 1 cup of non-iodized salt with 4 cups brown sugar. Cover the fillets with the mixture, stack additional fillets on top, putting more dry brine mixture on the fillets. It draws the water out of frozen salmon, making for a good firm fillet. Just rotate them in the juice and scoop it over the fillets once or twice a day. I brined mine in the fridge for 4 days and that turned out just about perfect. Smoked for 10 hours on alder chips in the Little Chief smoker, then brought up to temp in the oven.
