  1. Meh, I'll stay sane either way because I believe the cubs are on their way out of first. I'd love them to lose and while they are at it, might as well have it be as tiresome and demoralizing as possible. That will give their fans plenty to whine and cry about, and whatever makes cub fan unhappy makes me happy.
  2. Well, it would be nice to see Washington get something going or at least make Montgomery work. 17 pitches to get through 2 innings. Come on, nats.
  3. I'd been reading about his comeback bid. Hard not to root for a guy who put in that much work, sacrifice and pain to make it back. Even if he is a Met.
  4. I actually wonder whether that would be better for them down the stretch than having to get on a red eye tonight to play the makeup game. Assuming they actually could formally forfeit the game. Take the 1/2 game loss in the standings to get a flipping offday, stay home, and avoid flirting with hurricane precip. It would be so crazy if they get all the way out there only to be rained out again I don't know, but I'd love it because for the rest of my life, when facing inclement weather or less than ideal situations I could ask any cub fan if they wanted to forfeit the game. It would/will never get old.
  5. Good. That's a lose for them. And a shameful one too. Here it is, I was looking at their board to see the whining. https://www.bleedcubbieblue.com/2018/9/12/17850862/theo-epstein-cubs-mlb-cubs-nationals-rainout-thursday
  6. I read one article today where theo was basically making a veiled threat that there was a possibility they would just forfeit/refuse to play the game. Lol
  7. Yeah but...although I'm not able to watch, gamecast doesn't have Chase seeming too sharp. Might be a good day to get him out of there while we still lead it. If he gets through the 4th I probably don't have him lead off the top of 5th. Then again, what do I know.
  8. I'm having to follow on espn.com. What is going on, it shows Lester just left on an 0-2 count to Kratz. Accurate?
  9. For me, this team is more fun and I’ll tell you why I feel that way. https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/MIL/MIL201108020.shtml This game was the moment when it became obvious to me that Ron lacked the any of the savvy it would take to win a championship. I told my Dad afterwards, it won’t happen this season because Roenicke is not the man for the job. And he solemnly agreed. If we’d had a manager as smart as CC that season it might have been a different story. In any case, while I enjoyed the ride a whole bunch in 2011, deep down I knew we had a problem at the helm that would be our undoing. This year, while our team is far from perfect, I like our chances better than I did at this point in 2011. Not to derail the thread but what was it specifically about this game? A few things: Burned the precious little bench players leaving him with an empty cupboard later on. Pinch hit Felipe Lopez with Yuni on 2nd, 2 outs bottom of 9th instead of using Counsell to break out of The Slump in heroic fashion. (Counsell did finally get a hit in his very next plate appearance, too) Heck, Yo would have been a better choice even. Pitching to Fat Elvis in the 11th with 2 outs, Holliday on 2nd, first base open and Skip Schumaker on deck. All in all it was just such a nauseating way to watch them kick a game away to the cardinals.

  11. That article is a good reminder. I’m sure we all at some point have either internally or on here bashed a lineup decision when we should be looking at the successes and trusting the thinking that has led us to this point of being fired up in September.
  12. I thought it made a ton of sense to stretch the out Corbin 5 weeks ago in the minors, probably AA. Then put him in the rotation to stay, with a 3 start leash to get it going in the majors. I’d be fine with now stretching him in a piggyback situation in the majors. In my eyes he has the ability to give us something special down the stretch. Don’t die with a quiver full of arrows.
  13. I know. But the kid is athletic and a heck of a player. I think any team would be glad to have him.
  14. He'd be my choice. As much as I hate to say anything positive about a cardinal, I have enjoyed watching him this year.
  15. Unrelated completely but this whole thing got me to remembering the day Cal Eldred struck somebody out (Can't for the life of me remember who but I want to say it was against Toronto) swinging on a HBP.
  16. Heck of a AAA debut for Thomas Jankins!
  17. I finally saw the replay, after reading the thread. To me, it's a strikeout. I think to say he's no longer attempting a bunt might possibly be true, but it's also a stretch. It's an assumption. It's giving Lorenzen the benefit of the doubt. Especially since many successful bunts do involve pulling the bat back in a similar motion in order to deaden the ball. I think it's a bad call. Fortunately, it didn't cost us the game.
