Luis Oviedo was a Rule 5 pick off the Cleveland roster this past December. He was real good in the 2018 season in the real low minors & up/ down in 2019 in low A. His game logs in 2019 are the definition of Jekyll & Hyde Guy is nowhere ready for the majors but that is the thing with the Rule 5 draft: guys get a chance with another club & if they are decent it doesn't stunt the growth/ development.

As the CLE person/ fan on here, I should chime in. Perfectly fine with Guardians. I disliked 'Spiders' due to history (different franchise, was in the NL, went 20-134 in its final season). The bridge (& 2 of the 4 statues) are literally a 3 minute walk from the entrance gate located behind home plate. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/E7B5WSzXIAA_cw6?format=jpg&name=900x900 Here are some more tweets from the team today.. Just a point of reference for Brewer Fans: From Zack Meisel (of The Athletic) reported this morning: The Indians preference is to keep (Jose) Ramírez, perhaps even extend him. Payroll shouldn’t inhibit that; there’s not a single player on the roster owed a nickel beyond this season (other than arbitration and club contract options), and a new minority investor should eventually pump some more cash into the operation. Ramírez would welcome the chance to negotiate a long-term deal, according to sources, and it seems like something the two sides could explore during the offseason or spring training. ---------------------- To take this further, other info (not from Meisel): there have also been extension talks with Shane Bieber.. CLE ownership is seeing both players as 'face of franchise' types and important on and off the field as a new team name is coming for the club..

2021 Draft Pick Discussion, Rounds 11-20
MadThinker88 replied to Eye Black's topic in MLB Draft & International Signings
Oh but that is not all... - Cleveland drafted 19 pitchers out of its 21 selections, & 18 of the 19 pitchers were college players. - The Dodgers didn't draft a position player until the 16th round and selected 17 pitchers out of 19 picks. The first two of those were high school pitchers, but the rest were college or junior college selections. - The Giants selected pitchers with their first nine selections, with eight of those coming from the collegiate ranks. - Tampa Bay selected 13 pitchers out of 21 selections.. Not sure about the other organizations but CLE has been position player heavy in its last few International signing classes. Going pitching heavy in this draft helps to balance that out.. -
I guess Mike Hegan wasn't available. Just FYI: Mike Hegan is sitting around heaven retelling stories with Davey Nelson... Probably from their time together doing CLE Indians broadcasts

If CLE continues to fall out of the race for a post-season spot, an additional name to consider trading for: RHP Nick Wittgren Under most radars & is more effective then people realize. https://www.baseball-reference.com/play ... ni01.shtml He could solidify the pen in the 6th/ 7th innings and could also step in if needed late in the game should one of the regular back-end arms be unavailable on a given day.. -

Prospective trade deadline targets?
MadThinker88 replied to adambr2's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
I can't imagine that Ramirez is actually available especially considering the Indians are 10 games over 500. If Ramirez was actually made available I think there would be quite the bidding war for him. Thank you @adambr2 for those acknowledging those points (current record/ bid war if he was made available). The point being missed is the coming roster crunch in CLE after the season. The CLE FO has to figure out a way to add 8 to 10 of its own talented prospects (of 20+) before the R5 deadline. Sending away JRam in any deal for a multiple player package of talent only makes that roster crunch worse. If they are still in the mix as the deadline gets closer, it is more likely CLE takes a lower prospect (ie non-top 100 overall / non-top 15 prospect in its own system) to acquire a rental player or 2. -
Prospective trade deadline targets?
MadThinker88 replied to adambr2's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
It will not be enough... It (a trade of JRam) is not happening in 2021.. Better to focus energies on getting Makil Franco from Baltimore or another team that is buried & perhaps looking to sell at this point (Twins/ DBacks/ Tigers/ Rangers) to get reinforcements for different spots... -

Using Baseball Trade Values, Mancini has a value of 20.7 For reference the same place has these values for Brewer players: E Small 6.0 C. Ray 2.1 Ashby 8.9 B. Turang 26.6 G. Mitchell 21.8 I doubt there is a trade match unless it was Mitchell for Mancini ( & its unlikely Brewer fans want to do that deal)...

I can't imagine the Brewers shelling out $28M ($13M for this year and $15M for 2022) for Seager who is hitting .222/.271. At his age he isn't likely to get any better. Cron is doing great, but I don't know what the Twinkies would want for him. Twinkies would take whatever you want to give since they aren't giving up anything. Cron is playing for Colorado this year (after Detroit in 2020) Cron only played for the Twinkies in 2019.. -
