  1. Unless someone can link to an official announcement, my understanding over the past few years was the roster deadline for the MLB 40 man roster was also the deadline for setting the minor league list of 38 players. Remember: there is no requirement in the minor league portion of the R5 draft that players remain at a certain level and no mechanism for player to be returned to their original organization. Once a player is selected, they are basically gone (barring a trade back or pickup via waivers)
  2. Feel free to move around to other "Locked On" podcast shows. Its a great time to explore and learn more about the game from other perspectives.. Heck the host of Locked On Guardians currently lives in the Milwaukee area (just saying)...
  3. The Buxton extension has a full no-trade clause.. Twins will contend (& possibly fail) dependent on Buxton staying healthy.
  4. Which prospect traded by Stearns & company for a short term rental has had a detrimental long term effect on the team? I can't think of any off the top of my head which would seem to imply they both can afford it & it is a sound, well thought out strategy. I would suggest dealing away Competitive Balance picks is akin to dealing prospects for short-term help. In that case MKE dealt its 2019 Comp A (#39, eventually #41) pick to Texas for LHP Alex Claudio.. The pick for Texas was 3B Davis Wendzel. While Wendzel hasn't made the majors yet, it could be debated that any player taken after #40 in that draft COULD have been the Brewer pick. There are a couple of talents in the next handful of rounds (thru the 5th) that would look nice in the MKE system/ on the MKE team.
  5. From the CLE perspective I could see Melendez being a sweetener to get a deal completed with some team. It all comes down to what the rest of the trade is to fill various needs and who else is involved. Melendez is at best 3rd on the CLE minor league depth chart at catcher behind Bryan Lavastida (just added to 40 man roster, like starts next season in AAA) and Bo Naylor (former 1st round pick, either repeats AA or splits time in AAA with Lavastida). Melendez is good and necessary depth but TBH I doubt he gets a chance in CLE. Considering he is R5 this year it will be interesting if he gets added to the minor league protection list or taken by some club during the minor league portion of the draft if not on the list. ****************** As for the overall topic of the thread, it appears CLE hit a couple of homeruns with its 2017 international signing class which is a welcome change. CLE recently added 10 players from its 2021 minor league teams rosters including 4 from the 2017 Int'l signing group. The 4 Int'l adds were: George Valera ($1.3M), Brayan Rocchio ($0.125M), Jose Tena ($0.4M), & Jhonkensey Noel ($0.1M). There were a couple of other players in the mix for consideration to be added before the 2021 season was played (Aaron Bracho, Alexfri Planez). Bracho (signed for $1,500,000) had a very disappointing 2021 season & was a headliner for the signing class with George Valera. Planez signed for $400,000.
  6. No insider knowledge here, but I’m betting that Brewers have bigger plans in mind for 1B. Kudos to Luplow learning/ working on playing 1B. That wasn't the case during his time in CLE. If he could have stayed healthy he would he had a clear path to take over a regular OF spot.
  7. Just remember: The Yankees (with so much invested in him) could have out-righted Clint to their AAA club after Clint cleared waivers. IF Clint simply needed more time, the Yankees were in position to provide it and wait. But instead they decided to cut ties..
  8. Just putting this out there now... CLE Guardians have about a dozen guys for next years R5 to closely watch during the 2022 season (6 of them were on the organization's BA top 40 list for the 2021 season). The roster crunch in CLE continues...
  9. CLE did not have need for starters entering 2021 either... Then Logan S Allen & Triston McKenzie struggled at the start of the year & all of Bieber- Civale- Plesac were on the Injured List starting in June.. I wish JC the best of luck moving forward & I think bullpen is the better place for him at this time.
  10. A couple of info pieces related to the listed players above: JC Mejia is out of options unless granted a 4th option by MLB. IF he was getting that 4th option there is a good chance he would not have been DFA'd today (in favor of another out of options player Oscar Mercado/ Bradley Zimmer).. Kyle Nelson has IIRC only 1 option remaining (burning options in 2020 & 2021). While he had a good track record coming thru the minors he never really put it together at the MLB level. If a change of scenery helps him move forward I would be happy for him but I would not count on it. Clint Frazier was DFA's by NY Yankees due to his health issues. IIRC his multiple concussions produced a vertigo issue for him. Personally I hope Clint gets healthy & turns it around. Time will tell us how it goes...
  11. TBH I am a little worried that the initial sale of new team merchandise (begins Friday 11/19/21 at 9 am) is going to be used as smoke/ cover for NOT getting something finalized... FYI - Now that I am back at work (started new job today 11/18/21) I will be slow to hear/ delayed in any response to a move/ lack of moves made.
  12. I find it very unlikely that San Fran trades its C (Bart). With Buster Posey retiring after the world series ended, Bart's role with the major league club is increasing in 2022.
  13. Taylor has declined the Qualifying Offer from the LA Dodgers (1 yr $18.4M) so: a) he is likely looking for a larger overall sum of money b) depending on the signing amount the signing team would be giving up a draft pick as well as the money...
  14. Just a point of reference regarding Bryan Reynolds - Pittsburgh has an astronomically high asking price on Reynolds. Just how high is the question. There is rumor/ story from an insider that CLE made a call after the World Series ended to inquire and the initial ask from Pittsburgh was 3 top 100 prospects (in particular RHP Daniel Espino, OF George Valera, & SS Brayan Rocchio) plus a few more pieces. It was a quick end to the conversation. MKE faces the added problem of dealing with a divisional opponent for trying to get Reynolds. Its a nice idea, but the cost to acquire Reynolds would be prohibitive for MKE. Better to focus time/ effort/ assets elsewhere.
  15. OBJ & CLE reworked his contract before the release. It converted part of the owed money to a bonus & reworked the remaining time on the deal (if OBJ was claimed on waivers) so OBJ would be a Free Agent after the 2021 season instead of 2022. That rework was completed on 11/5/21 and due to NFL & NFLPA by-laws OBJ could not be placed on waivers on the same day the re-worked deal was finalized. Hence OBJ was not waived until Monday 11/8 & the 24 hour waiver claim period ended on Tuesday at 4 pm.
  16. there are 10 teams in the AFC with either 5 or 6 wins. the colts with 4 wins are still on the periphery of contention. the titans, even without derrick henry have to feel pretty good about where they're at. the Bengals were the #1 seed 2 weeks ago. I think as it stands right now, they're out. As it stands right now, the Bengals are now last place in the AFC North division & have to dwell on that as they have their bye week
  17. Monasterio is a good depth piece. I suspect he has more talent in there able to be tapped into/ released, but the CLE farm system is over-loaded with middle INF types that have been moved all over the diamond in an attempt to get meaningful development and playing time.. I wish him the best moving forward..
  18. Ramirez (138 OPS+, 19.7 WAR since 2018) is a little better than Olson (132 OPS+, 15.3 WAR since 2018), so he will likely net a slightly better package in return. I'd probably prefer Olson since he is a better fit positionally & shouldn't cost quite as much in prospect capital. CLE is talking about ADDING to its payroll number this off-season. In contrast: Oakland is looking to slash payroll. Both JRam & Olson would cost a bunch in trade capital, but considering the mindset of the clubs, Oakland (looking to reduce payroll) is more likely to deal Olson then CLE dealing JRam..
  19. IF the Brewers truly can open that many spaces without detriment to the MLB squad, Stearns & Arnold should be in talent acquisition mode before the roster deadline to pick up a couple of players from CLE/ Tampa Bay/ others clubs with a true roster crunch. Players acquired could then be depth or trade chips for the Brewers later in 2022 & 2023..
  20. Ketel Marte would be a very good fit for many teams in trade. There are reports that the DBacks were telling teams to pound salt when they inquired about KMarte at the 2021 trade deadline..
  21. IF (and I mean IF) Matt Arnold departs for the Mets job, this would be the time to either lock in a young up n coming mgmt person already in the organization or a young up n coming mgmt person from another organization that seems to be a feeder system for other teams (ie someone from Tampa or CLE). Good time to bring in fresh ideas and new way to look at/ do things..
  22. Exiting now ensures he is still healthy. I have to assume someone rehabbing a major injury faces additional hurdles as they try to change schools. I look at entering the transfer portal sooner is akin to HS Seniors enrolling early.. Get into the new program early, get up to speed faster and have a better chance of playing in the upcoming season.
  23. I am confused & I hope you (or other Brewer fans) can help me understand. You suggest Mitchell & Small is too high a cost to pay for Jose Ramirez, an everyday player & top 3 MVP finalist in the AL for 3 of the past 4 seasons (2021 not yet known). But many Brewer fans are looking for the equivalent to Mitchell & Small PLUS for two years of Josh Hader, a very good relief pitcher that pitches in under half the games each season. I have a hard time understanding & balancing those viewpoints even when taking into account team fandom. Even the BTV site after updates has JRam at a value more than twice Hader (JRam at 72.7 & Hader at 30.2). How do you see Hader bring back more value in a deal than JRam???
  24. Eye Black - I think most those players you listed for CLE (including Oscar Mercado) are very moveable. Ernie Clement is the only player from that list I would consider unlikely..
  25. Here are the Cleveland prospects in the same boat (from the same source: Baseball America) #1 Tyler Freeman SS #4 George Valera OF #7 Brayan Rocchio SS #16 Richie Palacios 2B/OF #18 Joey Cantillo LHP #19 Jose Tena INF #20 Aaron Bracho 2B #22 Bryan Lavastida C #25 Jhonkensey Noel 1B/3B #29 Oscar Gonzalez OF
