  1. Fuentes is solid but I agree he isn't worth losing a first round pick. I wonder if the asking price for Street has come down at all.
  2. Greinke is the guy I wanted to get at the deadline in 2008. Obviously Sabathia worked out, but I wanted Greinke because the Brewers would have had him for multiple seasons. I'd have no problem dealing top minor leaguers for Greinke, which is what the Royals would be interested in.
  3. 5/100 is certainly not an "insult," but there's not a chance in hell Sabathia takes that. Either it's the Brewers' first step in the process and they're waiting for a possible counteroffer, or it's all for PR.
  4. I'd be shocked if two years/28 mil is the best Sheets can get. I'd be almost sure someone would offer three years, and I even think four years is likely. Some team will be desperate enough to take that huge risk. If two years/28 mil is the best he gets on the open market, the Brewers had sure better match/top that offer.
  5. It sounds good, but there isn't much out there in positions the Brewers need. Maybe Derek Lowe or Hank Blalock, but both are risky and would probably be overpaid.
  6. Gagne's second half: .688 OPS against, 1.00 WHIP Nobody seems to notice that. He was the Brewers' best reliever down the stretch. I don't get why nobody is even considering bringing him back (for an obviously lower price).
  7. Nobody is high on Gwynn. He might be a secondary piece, but that's at best. At this point there is plenty of proof that he can't hit. TGJ, Lucroy and Green won't get it done. They need an A prospect in there, maybe too. I don't see how they get Peavy without giving up at least one of Jeffress, Gamel or Escobar, and maybe two.
  8. 4 years/100 mil is the most I'd go for Sabathia, and I'd offer Sheets either 1 year/15 mil or 2 years/25 mil--probably no higher. Which will mean the Brewers probably won't get either.
  9. I will say that I wish they wouldn't have shown Creed as the joker in all the previews. That was the funniest part of the episode but I was a bit desensitized to it because of the previews.
  10. Surprised I had to dig for this. "Holly wants to end this now and make it easy. I want to make it much harder than it has to be." And Creed just keeps getting better.
  11. I just couldn't believe I was watching the Bucks move the ball. Would love to see that with regularity.
  12. I was just glad to see he actually contributed. He hadn't really done a thing until then. It was awesome to see how pumped he was.
  13. I don't think you'd need a good lefty bat in a Fielder trade, but they'd definitely have to add at least one in some way. I think the Rays make a lot of sense as a trade partner, but I don't think Fielder gets you one of Garza, Shields, Kazmir or Price in a one-for-one deal. I'd probably make the trade for any of them, but I don't think the Rays will give one up.
  14. I'd like 4/100 but I'd personally be surprised if he took it. Like others have said, he'd be leaving at least 40 mil on the table by doing that.
  15. Is being at least average at everything really that bad? If he's average defensively, offensively and at rebounding that makes him pretty valuable. Most centers are below average at either offense or defense. And this is beside my point, but I'd argue he's above average at offense and rebounding.
  16. http://media.collegepublisher.com/media/paper1042/stills/4kpw48u2.jpg Jesse Lacey, vocalist and songwriter for Brand New. Best lyrics around and a powerful voice. http://image.guardian.co.uk/sys-images/Arts/Arts_/Pictures/2007/05/01/chuckpalahniuk460.jpg Chuck Pahlahniuk. Great writer. http://www.phillymag.com/blogs/philly/wp-content/uploads/0208_DailyExaminer/mosejpg.jpg Ken Tremendous. Brilliant. Basically, I'm a sucker for a great writer/musician/songwriter.
  17. TheCrew, is anyone saying Sheets isn't injury prone? I thought the argument was that Bedard would be a bigger risk.
  18. Yes, A.J. Burnett and Bedard are much bigger risks--Not because of the amount of DL trips but because of the severity and type of injuries they've had.
  19. Bedard is a bigger injury risk than Sheets. I'd much rather try to re-sign Sheets before I gave up players for Bedard.
  20. Here we go disagreeing on an episode again. It was my favorite of the season. "Michael gave me his top ten Springsteen songs. Three were Huey Lewis and the News." "It just says Creed..." "That's all inclusive." "She's your wife, you idiot." Also the board with the thermometer for money raised was awesome. The line for the goal was at $3,400, and at the top was $1,000,000.
  21. Citizens Bank would be a nightmare for Sheets. I'd be really surprised if he went to Philly.
  22. I am thinking it's more of the way he feels the city, and more importantly, some of the players have acted towards him. I don't think anyone ever came out and questioned his dedication, but I remember reading between the lines that he was getting those vibes from some teammates.
  23. Does anyone else think Haudricourt is making a pretty big leap when he says "Melvin will probably stop" after three interviews? The only quotes on the matter from Melvin are "I don't know if I'm going to interview a fourth or fifth (candidate)," Melvin said. "I think they are three strong candidates." and later "There are other candidates, people we can look at," Melvin said. "With our resources, we can weed people out. I'm not sure we'll do a formal interview with anyone else." "I don't know..." "I'm not sure..." are not very telling signs in my opinion. Maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part.
  24. Ben won't get the five year for huge money he may have been looking for, but I don't see how he doesn't get at least three. He'll be the second most coveted free agent starter, even with the durability issues. I think the Brewers might be able to get a nice bargain on him assuming they don't re-sign Sabathia, but the big question is obviously whether he wants to come back.
  25. Obviously he won't be the same bargain next year considering he'll be one year older and more expensive, but probably not as much as it seems--he won't be missing most of April due to a suspension in 2009. He helped the defense immensely, so I'd like to have him back unless a better option became available (highly unlikely IMO).
