  1. Ever since I heard 10,000 Maniacs was at Germanfest this weekend (sadder that Bret Michaels at State Fair?), it's been Because the night! Belongs to lovers! Because the night! Belongs to us!
  2. The road record thing is overblown a bit, as it's likely just some weird luck/randomness. Their next four road series are against Houston, St. Louis, New York, and Pittsburgh. I'd bet on them being at least .500 over those four series.
  3. I thought his stuff looked really good.
  4. That would be just ridiculous if it was anything less than four weeks. I was sure he was done for the season when I saw it.
  5. Ha. Love calling it the magical number. http://travelbloggers.files.wordpress.com/2008/12/magical-mystery-tour.jpg
  6. Yeah plus Bell will be Type A, so SD had motivation to keep him. Great pickups in the pen for Texas between Uehara and Adams.
  7. I honestly forgot Dillard was even on the roster until I played the Show online the other day and saw him there. At first, I thought they hadn't updated the rosters in a while.
  8. If this was 2001 and the Brewers were awful, the negativity wouldn't be nearly as bad because the team would be awful and the fans would be apathetic. But the team is good and in position to win, which means these small decisions are extremely important. That's why there is frustration when they appear to be poor decisions--because they actually matter.
  9. The "patently absurd" comment seems to be in reference to my post, so I'll address it. I never said Carroll is a difference maker. What I implied is that he's a better option than Morgan in CF against left-handed starters. Morgan has a career .570 OPS against lefties. For this reason, Melvin needs to play Hairston in CF against lefties. To Logan's comment about Morgan's defense still making Morgan the better option, I can't agree with that. Morgan has good but not great CF defense, and the reports on Carroll are that he's solid defensively. I don't think there's too much lost defensively from Morgan to Carroll--neither is at a Gomez level, for example. I'll second the notion that Hairston won't get more than 10 or so starts at short the rest of the way, and that's simply not enough. I still blame Melvin for that over RR, though. I'm sure he's got a big say in how Hairston's used, and in the JS, he kept talking about him being a versatile utility guy, and never mentioned him specifically for a shortstop replacement. Again, shortstop has been the biggest hole on this team all season, and it went largely unaddressed.
  10. Well then Morgan against lefties hurts the team too, because he can't hit them. Either way, he hamstrung RR by DFAing Carroll.
  11. Cards 1-2 @Astros 2-1 @ Cards 1-2 Pirates 2-1 Dodgers 3-1 @Mets 2-1 @ Pirates 2-2 Cubs 2-1 Cards 1-1 16-12
  12. RR didn't mess this up. That's all on Melvin. He's the one who DFAd Carroll instead of Wilson, Counsell, or Betancourt. RR is now forced to play Hairston in center against every lefty. And as to no shortstops being available, Melvin shouldn't have put himself in this position in the first place. It's mind-boggling that he would make all those win-now moves and then enter the season with Yuniesky Freaking Betancourt as his starting shortstop.
  13. Yes, moves were made to win now, which is great. It's also why it's asinine to A. Not cut Yuni the minute they made the Greinke trade, B. Enter the season with him as the starter and no other real options, and C. To let him suck for four months and STILL not upgrade him with anyone who can play an average defensive shortstop. It's the worst decision of the Melvin Era.
  14. It's killing the pitching staff. They're fourth in xFIP, yet ninth in ERA in the NL. They'd have a three or four game lead with an average defensive shortstop all year.
  15. JHJ is a fine shortstop if they actually play him there. Likely a much better SS than CFer. But it's clear they won't use him there much because they sent down Carroll and because of Melvin's comments. He'll be the Gomez half of the CF platoon, and then roam around the infield the rest of the time.
  16. Hairston isn't a shortstop upgrade. He's a utility upgrade. They have a huge need for a full time shortstop. The Cards got one; the Brewers didn't.
  17. One NL Central contender realized they have a terrible shortstop and did something about it. The other did not.
  18. I couldn't care less about Betancourt's offense since the break. His defense at short is the worst in baseball and it's killing the team. They absolutely need an upgrade.
  19. I find it unbelievable that Melvin sees no problem with Yuniesky Betancourt as a full time shortstop the rest of the way. It really is the worst decision he's made in his tenure here, and he's compounding it by not upgrading.
  20. Man are these some bad teams the Brewers are playing. This is nice.
  21. Why not Hawkins next inning Saito to close? Hopefully they score here.
  22. TH is acting like Green hasn't been all that impressive. "I'm getting sick of all the Taylor Green questions." Well yeah, there's a reason for that--he's warranting all the questions! Also, I don't understand this sudden concern for defense. Green at 2B>>>Kotsay in CF or Yuni at SS
  23. This is stupid either way. Either they traded him for a K-Rod rental, or they just aren't calling him up on their own accord. Both are bad decisions.
