  1. Weeks is a better defender than Lopez at second, plus he loses a lot of his value if you move him to a corner OF spot. Unless the team is willing to pay Lopez to be a utility infielder, there probably isn't a spot for him next season. The only way would be if the team trades Hardy but wanted Escobar to get more seasoning for awhile, but Lopez isn't a good defensive shortstop.
  2. 2010 should be a year the Brewers look to make a run, which is why I wouldn't understand it being a forgone conclusion that Hardy is traded. Sure he's been bad this year, but this thread has already covered why he's not likely to be this bad next year. Escobar in a best case scenario next year would maybe match Hardy's value this season. Hardy is very likely to be the better player next year, so unless they feel they can get good pitching for him, I would keep him.
  3. Ball Four is a must.
  4. I was going to point out his k/bb ratio too. Harang is definitely my kind of pitcher. FIP of 4.17. He's not the ace he once was, but he's a solid starter who's better than any starter on the Brewers outside of Gallardo. He is a bit pricy (12.5 mil next year, club option for 2011) but I wonder if the Reds might be willing to kick in a couple mil.
  5. Man, Todd Coffey has really been impressive this season. Making me look dumb for wanting him out of high-leverage situations earlier in the season.
  6. If I remember correctly, the Brewers played a bunch of bad teams right after the Parra/Fielder incident last year. Any time something "sparks" a winning streak it's generally just coincidence. The Brewers have bad pitching. That won't change.
  7. Was that a walk-up or just a random song? Hoping it was random.
  8. How refreshing to see a Brewers' starter pitch efficiently. I feel like it's been weeks since we've seen that.
  9. Heard BA say "And Alyssa Milano joining us..." and my immediate that was WHAT? WHY? SWEET! and then heard "at the ballpark tonight." Heh.
  10. Spend the money? Where, on the free agent market? Because there's nothing attractive there this winter. The Brewers will need to add pitching through trading. McGehee is a great trade candidate if you ask me. It would be nice to see the Brewers sell high on somebody for a change. McGehee packaged with prospects or Hardy/Hart could bring back solid pitching. I'm not really sure who else there is to trade from the Major League roster. I seem to be in the minority, but I prefer to keep Hardy until he walks and make a push for the playoffs next year. Escobar hasn't struggled, but he certainly hasn't forced his way into Milwaukee with his offense. What's wrong with keeping him in AAA another year, keeping his arby clock from starting and letting the better shortstop play in Milwaukee? Use McGehee, Hart and the farm system to acquire pitching.
  11. At the beginning of the season we heard from Mark A and Doug that the Brewers would have money to add a piece or two at the deadline. And we know they were looking into guys like Halladay and Lee. What more do you need to know?
  12. Gallardo is first in the NL in pitches thrown per start. I fail to see how this isn't abuse. With the Brewers tanking, riding Gallardo even close to as much as they have the rest of the way would be completely unacceptable.
  13. Anyway... I've heard him say repeatedly that the Brewers don't have the finances to make a big deal at the deadline, which was just simply wrong. I don't see how he can report something like that more than once without being corrected by someone.
  14. It's appears the Brewers didn't have the high impact, close to MLB ready pitching prospects it would have taken to get Lee or Halladay. There wasn't much out there that would have been worth Escobar or Gamel that was an actual possibility.
  15. Heck, the Mets said they were buyers. Who cares what a GM says publicly? And even if they didn't have intentions to sell, I don't blame them. They'll probably attempt to bring most of their impending free agents back.
  16. How do you know they didn't put feelers out there? I question how much of a return most of them could have gotten anyway. It's tough to sell when you're trying to contend the very next season.
  17. Trwi, what exactly do you want to sell? They will probably try to re-sign Hoffman, Cameron and Counsell for next year. Lopez maybe as well. What was there to sell?
  18. It's looking more and more like Rottino really is nothing, though. At least here. He was blocked just about everywhere.
  19. I take issue with this. It's difficult to sell when you want to compete the very next season. The Brewers could very well be interested in re-signing Cameron, Hoffman, Counsell and maybe even Lopez for next season. And I'm of the opinion that Hardy should also be kept next year to make the playoff push, so I don't really think they were in great position to sell much of anything.
  20. Turns out that awful song was in fact an omen.
  21. Ha. Whatever. At least they haven't given up any prospects for rentals. I can't stand watching Vargas though.
  22. As great as it is that he's hitting this well, isn't part of you irritated that he didn't give up that lightning rod batting stance a few years ago?
  23. Considering what they got for Lee, I'd try to trade for any of Cleveland's players. In seriousness, the Brewers would be best served using their assets to get pitching.
