  1. There are so many moving pieces...similar to Nashville, San Antonio has also been mentioned as a possible MLB location. San Antonio probably needs a new stadium no matter what level they are at. Also, the Elmore ownership group has had a great relationship with the Brewers, but have also had affiliates with many more teams so the connection may seem more "exclusive" from the Brewers side of things than the Elmore side of things.
  2. What about the Brewers signing potential non-tender candidate Eddie Rosario and moving Yelich to first?
  3. Historically I think expansion plans are usually announced about 3 years in advance giving the Brewers and Madison plenty of time to build a stadium
  4. This makes the additional of Berry to the major league staff make sense. Position-by-position there is not an abundance of speed on this team, though.
  5. With all the stats out there in baseball, I am actually surprised there is not one regarding players getting thrown out at home.
  6. It may assist the Brewers in getting back to Nashville as it could steer some teams away. With that said, I have read 2028 may be the soonest that an expansion could occur and there is no guarantee Nashville would be one of the locations.
  7. Moving Corredor (slated for the Biloxi staff in 2020) to a bullpen catching role seems like a good way to keep a valued staff member. Hanel was definitely a popular member of the team also, but I have to think bullpen catchers only last so long. The last game I was at, Sedar brought a couple of bags of sunflower seeds out for the fans to pass around. The "dill flavored" ones made it around the section a few times before the bag was emptied.
  8. Could Bowling Green end up in the picture for Milwaukee? If two spots could open up for Midwest League teams to move to AA, Dayton for the Reds and Bowling Green for the Brewers would work out well geographically for both the Midwest League and for a potential Nashville/Bowling Green combination at AAA/AA.
  9. I agree with Lincoln that Mudcats to the Sally League and Nashville in AAA makes the most sense with the Rangers returning to Round Rock and the Nationals heading up to Rochester, NY. Would Biloxi and the Brewers likely continue their affiliation at AA?
  10. Missed tackles and lack of pressure makes for a bad defense
  11. Mitch Moreland would also be fine on a one-year deal.
  12. Unless you are making the argument that trading the pick shifts money to the major league club, the strategy is actually more expensive. Omar costs much more than the pick and Claudio did after a couple of years. With potential deferred draft money, it could likely be more expensive than normal. The strategy is based in the same analytical concept of drafting college players instead of high school players. You are running the odds of what you get immediately at the major league level is greater than what you will get later, especially considering the large number of players (even compensatory picks) that never even make it to the major league team.
  13. Not only would they have three picks in likely the top 50, but also about $3 million more than this year to spend in the first five rounds.
  14. It is interesting the Brewers have not made an announcement one way or another regarding the coaching staff. Over the last few years, an announcement has tended to come either way a week or two after the team finished playing.
  15. People aren't going to like it, but it wouldn't surprise me if the Brewers fill out the last five or so spots on their roster with former high draft picks like McKinney hoping to catch cheap lightning in a bottle. I would expect a lot of teams would try to go "cheap" this winter.
  16. Makes sense unless you have other in-house plans like Yelich or Hiura at first. Another "buy low" option if healthy is CJ Cron.
  17. The Altoona Curve (AA Eastern League) GM recently said he hopes to hear an announcement by Thanksgiving regarding affiliations.
  18. Analysts have gotten rid of the sacrifice bunts and stolen base attempts, not hitting coaches. If the DH becomes a permanent component in the NL, we may be explaining to future generations what a sacrifice bunt even is.
  19. James Bettcher could be an interesting candidate also if the team wants to keep the 3-4. Three strong years in AZ before two rough ones in NY. Taking a Spagnuolo type of "gap year" this year. Historically plays quite a bit of cover-1 press coverage with heavy blitzing.
  20. There is no doubt that hitting coaches likely take the blame more than they deserve. With that said, lets not give Haines too much credit, either. In the Marlins system, he was a hittting coach for one year (2008) before becoming a minor league manager. In Chicago he was assistant hitting coach for one year - a year in which Chili Davis was fired and Haines was not promoted. Part of the reason the Brewers won the NL Central in 2018 was the second half decline of the Cubs hitters.
  21. If Haines keeps his job, Counsell must really have faith in him as of the 11 players with over 100 at bats this year, only Arcia and Gyorko had minimal improvements offensively compared to 2019. If you say 2020 was a shortened year and it doesn't matter, look back at 2019 (Haines first year). Moose and Braun saw some improvements over 2018, but you also saw players like Cain, Gamel, Shaw, Aguilar, Perez, etc. decline from 2018.
  22. Was Sveum Counsell's hitting coach his last three years as a player? There are not too many jobs out there in sports with less job security than a MLB hitting coach.
  23. I was a real fan of the Pettine hire and had even higher hopes when Smith, Smith, Amos, Savage, and Gary were added. Now I am starting to think the 2021 Packers will have Dan Quinn as the DC, Preston Smith will be released, and the team will be running a 4-3. It isn't always a great choice to change coordinators (for example firing Donatell after the 4th and 26), but it may be time.
  24. Long is no longer available...the Nationals resigned him to a one-year contract.
  25. Yanksgoyard suggests Hader to the NYY for Frazier, D. Garcia, and Gil. Bringing in Frazier could move Yelich to first base. It would be a lot for the Yankees to give up, but could be appealing to the Brewers.
