  1. It is great for a team that had a history of not being able to produce pitchers, now having Woodruff and Burnes leading the rotation.
  2. I understand that Chris Paul has been a great player in the league, but is 36 and 37 y/o Chris Paul really that much of an improvement over Bledsoe, Hill, at least one of the rare remaining first rounders, $15+ million dollars, plus more? That is likely what it would cost the Bucks.
  3. I wonder if MLB would move back to the late 80s plan and have three AAA leagues. If this happens, it wouldn't surprise me if they create "bubbles" like the 2020 MLB season with the PCL teams being the ten teams from the West, the IL teams being the ten teams from the East, and the "new" teams being the ten Central teams. On an unrelated note, sounds like the NYY may connect with an independent league team for AA making Trenton available.

  5. It would have been easy for the Bucks to pack it up and go home being down 3-0, getting off to a slow start, or when Giannis goes down. My compliments to the team, including the coaching staff, for not letting that happen.

  7. Will the Bucks be like the '89 Bulls and the '18 Raptors and let their head coach go and hire from within to try to get them over the hump? Darvin Ham is the obvious choice with Charles Lee as a darkhorse candidate. Three times the number one seed as a head coach with no finals appearances is not a good sign.
  8. Just remember...it may not be a given that the draft is determined solely by this year's record. Hate to be a downer on the "optimism" thread.
  9. If the Brewers finish the second half of the 2020 season like the first half (26-28 wins total, an average to slightly above average pitching staff, and a bottom five offense), what changes would you expect to the roster, coaching staff, etc.?
  10. Baseball is a funny game...many forget that prior to joining the Brewers last year, Grisham had batted around .230 three straight years in the minors. Too small of cell sample is always dangerous to look at...I mean Greinke throwing the 52 mph pitch past him the other night does not make him a bad hitter.
  11. Tough to think Stearns should be "buying" after getting swept by the Pirates. The team doesn't appear to be one or two players away.
  12. If things don't improve...makes you wonder if Smoak, Braun, Gamel, or Knebel follow suit. Could also see Arcia dealt in a minor trade.
  13. The Brewers hold the power and can wait to see if someone blows them away with an offer...maybe Andrew Vaughn + from CWS or Kiriloff/Larnach + from the Twins.
  14. In a career (MLB hitting coach) that tends to not have a long life with individual teams, not a good sign for Andy Haines. With such a short season, I don't think teams will make many changes in-season but the Brewers could with Lane also on staff. Anyone else notice the players performing well below ZIPS projections are almost all left-handed hitters?
  15. I was all in Holt when he was signed, but it just didn't work out. I had forgotten about Peterson. Part of me wondered if Corey Ray would replace Brock, if he was let go.
  16. At this point, my favorite Brewer lineup may be Hiura at DH with Urias and Arcia up the middle.
  17. Sounds like Stearns might have shaken up the scouting department today.
  18. The Orioles are in interesting team to watch as their top four hitters right now, one-third of the way into the season, are waiver wire claims. If this continues, former Brewers shortstop Jose Hernandez will be a major league hitting coach very soon (currently the Orioles assistant hitting coach).
  19. I like the subtle moves that are being made with those struggling - Grimm to the IR, Lauer sent down, Morrison let go. With little invested beyond this year, it wouldn't be shocked to see moves like this continue. If Holt continues to struggle, I could see them letting him go and bringing the younger Mathias back up.
  20. Like I mentioned a few days ago, Haines may be the one I lose confidence in first (I hope the offense turns things around and this isn't the case). I don't see them making a change as I think they hired a minor league coordinator connected with Haines from his Miami days. It won't look good on Haines if Aguilar, Shaw, etc. have bounceback years this year. Cain and Perez dipped last year in Haines' first year, also. It is interesting what the Marlins did hiring Rowson from the Twins to serve as bench coach / offensive coordinator.
  21. You only trade Hader if you don't heavily value relief pitchers and you can get an Andrew Miller type of deal. Felipe Vasquez is a great comparison for Hader. Vasquez signed a four-year deal that covered all his arbitration years with a couple of option years following.
  22. Anyone else surprised that Aaron Ashby isn't in Appleton?
  23. I have not lost confidence in Stearns and, even though some have not worked out yet, I don't disagree with a number of the offseason moves. If the hitting doesn't turn around by the end of the year, Haines may be the first one I lose confidence in. If the Brewers continue to struggle, it will be interesting to see what happens come August 31st. I don't think it would be shocking to see Hader, Knebel, and/or Arcia be shopped. If everybody thinks they have a shot this year, the bidding war could be very interesting.
  24. Likewise if you feel real confident in your developmental staff, you may be willing to draft more high school players.
  25. Civale, Bieber, and Plesac were all college arms taken by the Indians in the 2016 draft. Brewers bullpen coach, Steve Karsay, coached Bieber for about 50 innings in AAA prior to moving on to Milwaukee. In all sports (but maybe even more evident in baseball) great coaching makes scouts look good and vice versa.
