  1. How is thinking we have Stearns for only two more seasons a good thing. We finally have a great executive and we are probably going to lose him to a big market. Attanasio stepping up and signing Stearns to a long term deal would be the best thing he could ever do to ensure the franchise stays relevant and in contention.
  2. This is a nice start. Let's see what the owners offer on CBT, minimum salary and 0-6 year players for earlier free agency or arbitration. How does lessening the CBT, increasing minimum salaries and granting earlier free agency help the small- or medium-market teams like the Brewers whatsoever? Perhaps I'm not looking at this situation 100% straight, but the players share at least part of the blame here. They, by and large, want the large market (i.e. rich) teams to become richer, because in the eyes of the players, the large markets are the only teams spending money on player salaries the way they should. They do not want increased revenue sharing or a competitive balance tax because, in their minds, the owners of the smaller markets are simply going to pocket that money, and not reinvest it into player salaries. But they also don't want a cap, because then that means that we're going to see fewer of these huge mega deals. I'm sorry, but as a fan of one of those small/medium-market teams, I am not in favor of anything that is going to hand more money to the large markets that already operate at a competitive advantage. I know the argument is "Well, those smaller markets just need to spend more!" But I don't get the feeling that Mark Attanasio is Scrooge McDuck-diving into piles of cash that he earns annually through his ownership of the Brewers. Can I co sign this because I agree completely. I will even go a step further and say I am willing to miss games in order to get a better deal for small market teams.
  3. All I know is that most if not all of the proposals that have been floated out there are terrible for small market teams and with that being the case I hope the lockout goes on as long as it has to in order to level the playing field.
  4. Renfroe is fine and its better than having Bradley on the roster but I would hope this was just a salary dump and not the big move to improve the offense. This team still needs a difference maker in the middle of the lineup and I just have no idea how they will accomplish it.
  5. This lockout period is a perfect time to get Stearns signed long term. If this lockout goes on for months and there is no extension announced we can pretty much connect the dots that we are going to lose the best executive in team history.
  6. This is not a deal for a real difference maker that this lineup desperately needs but Renfroe fits the team better than Bradley even if Jackie improves his offense next season. Hopefully we use the savings for an even better hitter and Binelas doesn't have us regretting the deal but we had to get rid of Bradley and his awful contract.
  7. Overall this is a good trade but I hate giving up Binelas and his huge power not to mention him being a local guy who was excited to be drafted by the Brewers. Still getting rid of Bradley was going to be costly but well worth it. Not a huge fan of Renfroe but I think he is similar to Garcia and he's cheaper. We desperately needed a right handed power bat and Renfroe fits the bill. I was hoping for more of an impact hitter for the lineup but Renfroe is at least the equal of Garcia and we got rid of an albatross contract. If we had kept Binelas I would give the trade an A but losing him knocks down the grade to a B. Stearns did excellent work once again and hopefully that will continue for years to come.
  8. Ha ha the meeting today lasted a whole 7 minutes so the lockout is definitely on. I don't care how long it lasts if the end results benefit the Brewers and teams in the same boat as us.
  9. I don't know why anyone thinks "helping out small markets" is something either side wants. It will suppress contracts for the players and would financially hurt the majority of the owners. There are more small market teams than large market ones so if the small market owners stood together they could demand an agreement more favorable to them.
  10. All of the rumored proposals about the next CBA seem even worse for small markets than the current agreement.
  11. Its still extremly early in the offseason but if the plan is to sign or trade for more below average offensive players we may as well trade Woodruff and Burnes now and start the rebuild. As we saw last season this lineup is not nearly good enough to win a title.
  12. How many weak hitting utility infielders does this team need. The lineup needs a legitimate right handed middle of the lineup bat. Between Peterson and Brosseau we have enough utility players as is.
  13. So you want Attanasio to spend like a drunken sailor when you know he can't, while at the same time being against something that would give the Brewers more shots at the dance given their constraints. It sounds like you just want to torture yourself. Wanting the team to have a better lineup to take advantage of the limited window with this outstanding starting pitching is not the same as expecting Stearns and ownership to spend like drunken sailors.
  14. Lets keep devaluing the regular season even more than it already is. Heck why not allow every team in the playoffs don't the Orioles and Pirates deserve a chance.
  15. There isn't one person who cares either way about signings like this. The frustration comes from watching free agency from the sidelines while the big money teams make signings. We have a limited window with two ace starters getting close to free agency and we need an impact bat really two if we are going to win that elusive world series.
  16. Freeman is getting 30 million a year in this market which is way out of our range.
  17. This team needs a legitimate thumper in the middle of the lineup and it really needs to be a right handed bat. Rizzo at this point in his career is not a difference maker and certainly not worth the money he will get in free agency.
  18. Rizzo makes no sense at all for the Brewers. He isn't an impact bat at this point in his career and he is lefthanded when we are desperate for a righty bat. Tellez is probably not much worse than Rizzo and he's cheap.
  19. The truth is we probably have a limited window while Burnes and Woodruff are under contract and this team desperately needs to improve the offense.
  20. They sure are spending big but I don't see them being anything close to a contender.
  21. This move is obviously meaningless but its disheartening to watch free agency from the sidelines while stars sign with the big money teams. It would be nice to have a level playing field or something at least close to it.
  22. This is the Brewers big move before the lockout signing a guy we have never heard of.
  23. I'd hate it during the lockout, but I agree... It's time to level the playing field, even though I know there is almost a 0% chance of that happening...........................ever! Every other sport has a level playing field and its long past the time where baseball does as well.
  24. I am more than willing to go through a long lock out if there are meaningful positive changes that help the small market teams.
  25. Definitely expect it to be crazy the next few days but I would be shocked if the Brewers do anything substantial. I just hope that the lockout leads to a more favorable atmosphere for small markets like the Brewers though I tend to think Manfred only cares about teams like the Dodgers and Yankees leaving the small market teams at a huge disadvantage.
