  1. There is nothing in those reports that suggest he is ONLY looking for prospects. Just that he is looking for prospects which very well could mean prospects in addition to major league ready talent.
  2. Actually, that might be who he is replacing, no? Right now Urias would be at third and Arcia at short so that question seems valid to me. Given that, I'd probably go with the offensive upside over the defensive upside.
  3. I can't wait to see this board completely implode. I think it's the right move to trade Hader when his value is highest. I also don't believe they will ever get the value some on here are wanting.
  4. I'm not sure your premise is on point here. Hader was fine in September and October. His issues were in July and August for the most part. If you are comparing 2019 Jeffress to 2018 Jeffress, I'm not surprised you saw a different pitcher. 2018 is clearly the outlier season for Jeffress and 2019 was much more consistent with his career numbers. The 2018 post season was just as likely the luck running out as it was anything else. Knebel threw almost 20 less innings in 2018 than he did in 2017. He threw less than 60 innings in 2018. Hardly over worked I think.
  5. I have to agree with pretty much everything you've said here. My point was that DS isn't going to think about player value the same way the rest of the market might. I mean don't we know that DS was not going to match the years and dollars given to Moustakas and Grandal? Wouldn't the only reason for that be that he felt it was an overpay? I mean, they had the money to do it if they wanted to. So yes, even if the rest of the market is overpaying it is still an overpay. With Keuchel I'm not sure it isn't an overpay anyway.

  7. I don't know. This sounds more like the script of "Major League" than it does anything having to with reality. I mean, I'm pretty sure Moustakas played on more losing than winning teams in KC so how does that make him a "winner"? Was Grandal a winner in SD or did that just happen when he moved to a loaded LAD team? Garcia and Anderson have been on multiple playoff teams each, are they not winners?

  9. In comparison to MadBum and the deals of this off season I would agree that it's not an overpay. Depending on the vesting option criteria the length isn't toxic. However, this entire off season has been 1 giant overpay in comparison to the previous 2 years. I'm pretty content that MKE is laying low in a players market. I don't think it's an overpay because it seems that's what the market is getting set at. And that's ok. If every player is getting "overpaid" is it really an overpay? I'd say that it's not. We all know DS doesn't work that way. He has a value for players and he's not going to exceed that whether the rest of the market is behaving foolishly or not.

  11. Well, I don't think the poster was at all implying that Stearns is having a masterful off-season just because he did or did not sign Kuechel. I think that is pretty obvious and I think you understand that. I get that fans want to sign a name but I also understand that it just isn't gong to happen and DS is not going to overpay whether that is the current market trend or not. There is no way I would have given that kind of money to a pitcher with Kuechel's profile, but that's just me.

  13. So he deserves the benefit of the doubt, but he sucks? Woof. The poster didn't say that. I don't happen to agree with the post at all really, but that isn't what was said. No, I do not believe they are done with position players. I think they still make a move to cover third. I'll reserve my opinion until I see the whole result but in my opinon being disappointed with this off-season is a very short sighted view.

  15. If anything is for sure is that Stearns and Co. are pulling off a masterful offseason. How much you want to bet Brett Anderson has a higher WAR than Keuchel in 2020? How much “WAR” would having both Brett Anderson and Keuchel on the same team warrant you? I'd imagine the difference in WAR between having Kuechel and not having Keuchel. What exactly is your point? Do you think the Brewers should have signed him for 18mil a year? Or did you just need to get in a drive by post?

  17. It just feels like DS is putting all the pieces in place to make a big move. Like he wanted to make sure he could get the guys he wanted at the price he wanted and then go for the big fish. I don't know if it will be 3B or SP (probably 3B), but sure seems like something is coming.

  19. LOL, that was my immediate thought as well. Having said that, UWBadger doesn't seem to have the same need for attention and has been on the board for quite some time. I'm willing to believe for now.
  20. There is chaff that can be dropped. Good thing we didn't waste a spot on a Rule5 pick.
  21. Very well put. I agree. As forward thinking as this board is at times, I still don't think the way DS thinks is fully grasped. His clubs won't be built along "traditional" lines.
  22. Isn't this the case for any move not forced by an owner? What GM willingly pays more than they think a player is worth? I have yet to see a GM in the presser exclaim how bad the deal will be. They aren't going to come out and say it but do you really believe the Reds thought Joey Votto was going to be the same player at the end of that contract? GMs over pay all the time, mostly those with deeper pockets buy that discussion happens all the time on this board. I think DS plays it a little differently.
  23. Not if you want someone who can actually play 3rd base it’s not..... https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/ryan-braun-is-willing-to-play-wherever-the-brewers-want-him-including-second-base/ If the options are Braun at third, trading for Kyle Seager (and not getting any big prospects like Sheffield or Dunn because the Mariners are allowed to pick up the salary), or trying to get in on Donaldson... Maybe Braun is the right call. If you need late-inning defense, Arcia comes in at short, Urias slides to third. Why are those the only options? Because they are the only ones you can think of? Braun will not play third in anything but an extreme emergency and probably not even then.
  24. I don't think the drop from Thames to Braun will be dramatic. It's not like we had a gold glover over there.
