  1. We need to get Ryan Cordell back here and stick him at short. What a great combo that would be.
  2. It would be pretty dumb to be doing that on their own and risk injury. Exactly. And there is nothing to replace actually facing big league hitters to see if your stuff is working. It depends I guess. My understanding is that if they are attending the MLBPA camp they are protected/covered to some degree.
  3. How are we defining great? The only thing that matters to me is how they stack up against current competition. Is the offense greater than Chicago's? Washington, Arizona, LA, Colorado, STL? I'm not at all convinced the pitching is superior to any of those teams. If the offense isn't either, what do we have then?
  4. Not even close to the incentives that it would take for the starting pitchers. Holland isn't going to take a deal that includes saves incentive when we have Knebel. Not interested in spending money on 2B or C until we have figured out what we are doing with starting pitching. If the FO has made the determination that the starting pitching market just isn't something they want to play in, then why not? Improve your weaknesses by improving your strengths. A rising tide raises all ships, right? Add a high end arm to the pen and make it elite. Add a catcher and 2B and make the offense elite. Maybe those are good defenders too and you have an elite defense. You could probably do all of those things and expend less capital than what is being talked about with starting pitchers. I think to truly contend, something on your team has to be elite. I just think the Brewers have walked right up to that line but fall short of elite in every category.
  5. Woodruff might work as well. He could step right into the rotation. This isn't to suggest that the Rays are more likely to deal Archer, right? You guys are just speculating on the potential package? Correct.
  6. There was a lot of crap pitching for us last year. Starting and pen. I can see the team being 500... cant see them being considered good though. I can for the following reasons: A full season of Josh Hader Limited impact Fewer strikeouts by the lineup They will score runs but run prevention is part of th game too. Better OF defense Maybe, depends on whether they clear up the roster and/or Braun can play first. If guys are forced to play out of position that cancels some of that benefit. If Braun is horrible at first, it basically nullifies the gains in the OF. Chacin is not an insignificant addition to the rotation Nor is losing Nelson an insignificant loss. Chacin does not replace Nelson. Junior Guerra is healthy and ready to be the Guerra of 2016 Pure speculation This is Arcia's year to fully blossom and be an All Star Pure speculation Plenty of arm options ready in AAA Pure speculation All in all, that is a pretty thin set of hopes and maybe's.
  7. Thank you Benji. Great write up and probably has me more optimistic than at any point since the injury. Still not holding my breath though.
  8. I would bet most GM's would tell you that you need to be ten deep.
  9. Starting to think T. Williams might make the club out of spring.
  10. Hopefully Nelson and Woodruff can account for 230/280 non-suck innings. 80-100 out of Nelson and 150-180 out of Woodruff. If you factor in missed starts/injuries, I'd say we still need to account for 100-150 innings. Maybe Burnes can continue his success and pick up a chunk of that? Maybe Suter can effectively eat up the rest?
  11. Agreed. My expectations have lowered because I'm not expecting any more significant additions. However, I do trust Stearns and if he says the deals aren't there then they weren't there.
  12. Not sure I'd want him even if he did. Why not? I'd rather take the time to figure out who the real Villar is. Adding a Walker type bat mid-season won't be hard to do if necessary. If they had pulled the trigger on pitching I'd be more inclined to add but as it stands, this is a figure out kind of year.
  13. Not sure I'd want him even if he did.
  14. With the projections Ive seen on Arcia, I think he would be great in the 6 hole. Cain Yelich Braun Shaw Santana Arcia Pina Villar I like that lineup! Honestly, I'd switch Arcia and Pena and give serious consideration to hitting the pitcher 8th and Villar 9th.
  15. I agree with your sentiment but just let the guy post what he needs to post.
  16. I keep hearing how underrated this rotation is. Now it doesn't have the horses? You're pushing Anderson as a TOR so you add Stroman and you have a legit 1/2 with Davies/Chacin behind that. Why wouldn't you have the horses?
  17. If Nelson comes back strong, we probably won't see it in full until the ASB. If we are acquiring someone now, Nelson doesn't factor in for me. He becomes the big mid-season pitching acquisition. If your rotation is Stroman/Anderson/Davies/Chacin/Woodruff, then the risk of Nelson not regaining form is mitigated. That rotation would still stack up. If your rotation is Anderson/Davies/Cobb/Chacin/Woodruff, then you are really banking on Nelson returning to full form and doing it quickly. Acquiring a Stroman at the break is going to cost just as much if not more. If your rotation is headed by Stroman AND Nelson comes back, then you can compete with anyone on both sides of the ball in my opinion. Having said that, non of DeGrom/Stroman/Paxton are realistically available so its just a fun arguement. If they were available, I'd be in on them without thinking twice.
  18. What did Walker cost us mid-season? Yeah, I don't remember either. Let Villar prove 2016 was a mirage. An adequate upgrade mid-season for a system filler type arm is more than do-able.
  19. Adding a pitcher doesn't displace Woodruff or Chacin. It displaces the Gallardo/Miley/Wilkerson/Guerra/Suter type of starting rotation chaff. IF a guy like Burnes pushes the issue, then great, now you have assets in an area of strength to trade in a Davies or Chacin. Same story if Nelson comes back to what he was last year. Adding a guy like Stroman/DeGrom would be an easy decision in my mind.
  20. I'm just tired of waiting. "Odds" provide a little point of interest/discussion while days go by with no Brewers trade/FA transactions. Honestly it's not really that much different than a typical Brewers off season. Expectations got jacked up by a couple of high level acquisitions and a some folks with some educated guesses. I think it was pretty obvious a while back that Domingo was going to be back. They had been trying to trade him since basically the last day of the season. Given the trade/contract value corner OF's have garnered this winter, the low odds of trading Santana are not exactly news.
  21. It would also say there isn't much of a market for Arietta.
  22. More likely Babbo Natale.
  23. What you think about a tweet doesn't make it true.
  24. Sickels List is out https://www.minorleagueball.com/2018/2/21/17038344/milwaukee-brewers-top-20-prospects-for-2018
