  1. Does anyone else wonder why the "in-game thread" has 57 (and now 58) entries hours before the game? Do we need a pre-game thread?
  2. On a normal night, I think Miller would also get the start, but with a day off Thursday, I am not sure.
  3. Why don't we just ask for David Wright?
  4. The Blue Jays are competing, so anyone can.
  5. They might have claimed a player or two and just not got them as well.
  6. At the moment, the Crew needs Mench. Jenkins is replacement level at best versus LHP, and Gwynn, Nix, and Gross all are LH bats. I wouldn't mind seeing Cantu take that final position player spot at all, but Mench is a key component of this '07 club, as a platoon bat with some pop.
  7. I assume the bottom of the 9th is it regardless?
  8. I just looked at the box score and was surprised to see so many pitches. I'd think both teams would be swinging at a lot of first pitches tonight, especially the Crew.
  9. He slugs enough to make him worthwhile though. Still only 25.
  10. I was just gonna say it's odd they have 27 players but only 2 catchers, but it looks like the OF/C Delarosa is #3. Didn't Ford have a horrible '06? I don't know how he's not being treated fairly, all he can do is run. EDIT: I see Darren did have a decent OBP, but K's often. With his speed and at that level, he needs to improve his contact rate.
  11. Jon BJ is a fun guy, and while I don't agree with much of his politics, at least he's consistent and not a basher. Both he and Richie Sambora have said many times how they know the critics have liked some of their stuff and disliked most of it, but as long as the stadium or arena is full, they laugh all the way to the bank.
  12. I would say Colby often hits the nail on the head...people with disposable income are not downloading legal and illegal versions of the hot new indy artist most likely to overdose. They'd rather go see the "comfort food" of music, those that were big back when they were young. I must admit, that Star Trib article is a sign of why the newspaper industry is falling quickly...no one wants to read how hip and cool the author is and that they are a bunch of neanderthals for thinking a few hours of good food and music from the 80's sounds like a fun day.
  13. They said a lot of nice things about Bibbs when he was with Gwynn. I would guess he simply could not hit the breaking ball.
  14. That is a lot of games so early in the year.
  15. About the only question left with Braun is whether or not he'll be our 3B or our LF in 2007. There's little doubt he'll be up, barring injury.
  16. I have to wonder why height matters. Are we worried about him being posted up on? He can hit and throw. I don't care if he's 3 feet tall.
  17. I love Bon Jovi, and there newer stuff is much different than their older music, more storytelling than pop anthems. As Aaron Gleeman has noted many times, many music snobs hate all popular music, which is funny for many reasons. Regardless, I'd much rather be able to sell tickets than have a critic enjoy me. Bon Jovi is doing that quite well, I guess.
  18. Blaming Fed Ex is pretty weak. Fed Ex isn't letting them sit somewhere, they require signatures. The Nationals dawdled too long before sending them out.
  19. Counsell can't be traded until May or June, he was signed as a free agent.
  20. I don't know if Todd can play 3B any better than Jeff Cirillo can play SS. His range factor in 23 games in SD last year was a full half a chance lower than league average...is SD full of fly ball pitchers? I'd say he's a backup 2B with poor range there at this point. Granted, he's a .350 OBP guy, but I'm not sure if he's anything more than a 3rd string 2B and PH at this point.
  21. Colby will have to verify, but I think the Bon Jovi concert will be one of the top 2 draws at SF, barring a Beatles reunion (I don't know any other names at SF, to be honest). Supposedly, they are selling oodles of tiks at Country Jam in Eau Claire for the day they are there.
  22. I would say a few below Robert's guess of 62 wins, I'd say 58 if I had to pick a number. They have a decent, if unspectacular every day lineup, but they pretty much held open tryouts for the rotation.
  23. It's looking more and more like Nashville will not have a AAA team in a couple years. Too bad a visionary doesn't step up and broker a deal.
  24. Estrada will not catch in 130 games, which is 80%. I would guess about 67% of the time, maybe more if Closser/Rivera backs him up.
  25. Splitter, that would not surprise me that much at all. If he goes to Nashville and hits .300, has an OBP around .400, and plays defense the way he is capable of, I bet he'll be starting somewhere in '08. I said the same thing as you, only I put him in CF, back in January or so. Needless to say, however, that's a bit of a big if, to say the least.
