  1. Too long, too much. Makes the Mets deal with Bay look superb. As stated, SL outbid...the fact he could, in theory, not play for anyone. Pujols and Holliday will cost SL about $40M per. That's quite a chunk.
  2. Theo all but said Cameron is far better, so we're going with him in CF. Ellsbury's arm will be fine for LF, especially at home.
  3. Swingman potential as well. Very possible, though I would figure he'll go to a team willing to offer him a 40 man spot.
  4. Yeah, I hate to see them release more guys with ability, but the money is probably more important to Hammond than any talent level.
  5. No team does well on a west coast trip, they'll be very fortunate to steal a game or two. If they win 25-30 at home, they can sneak into the playoffs, but you don't do that losing to the Kings and the like.
  6. It's a very mediocre team unless Bogut and Redd play well. Others are very adept role players, but those two are the key. Ridnour will be the best PG on the market at the deadline, and with Bell and Ukic on the team, they can add some future pieces then. Despite losing Charlie V and Sessions for nothing, you can see it coming together.
  7. I've seen a lot of dogs and cats plenty happy with 3 legs, so I would think that's your only option. It's a good thing you're independently wealthy.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  8. Robert, look at Byrd's career stats and you'll see a mediocre OF until he hit TEX. Wrigley is a hitter's park, but it's not like Arlington. His home/road splits are off the chart (unlike Washburn, who people keep saying is a result of Safeco, but he was better on the road...he's a horrible example of how to use splits, Byrd is perfect).
  9. I think it is very likely SL convinced Smoltz they found something to give him confidence. Regardless, lefties just pounded him.
  10. The average LH hitter was Ryan Braun versus Smoltz last year, 973 OPSA. I would not expect much from him.
  11. Cameron is 5 years older. He's not going to be playing when he's 45, so at some point, his inevitable decline will occur. Assuming he's exempt because he's in good shape is simplistic. That said, much like Hoffman, I'd hate to go more than 1 year on guys that age, or one with a vested option. Keith Law finally mentioned how bad Byrd has been on the road, and with his average at best D, he's not a good sign. It's far from crippling, as Byrd's $5M won't be bad as a platoon or reserve in a big market, but he's really never hit outside of Arlington, and he's 32. Hart's far better, has some upside, and comes without any commitment.
  12. Hart has value, but with similar FA's on the market, it's limited. You'd have to find a team that likes Corey for his power/speed potential. Hart is a solid everyday corner OF, so he would be a good addition for many clubs, and his athleticism adds to his ceiling. He's looked down upon by many because of Braun and Fielder, but a team like the Mets last year, who lost several regulars due to injury, would have loved to have Corey hitting 4th every day. SEA would be another, as they had the worst offense in the AL and at the moment, have added Figgins and lost Beltre and Branyan, so I see it as worse. The Royals' offense looks as bad, Hart would be a very nice upgrade.
  13. Aubrey Huff is one of the more interesting names I've seen, but unless he has no interest in him at all, I can't imagine him going to an NL team with Prince at his best position, and Braun at his 2nd best. That said, if he just wants a one year deal to prove he can still play a bit, he'd be a perfect fit...a switch hitter with power would fill out the bench near perfectly. They are missing a guy who can come off the bench and hit one out of the park. EDIT: Huff just bats LH I guess. So, not perfect, but close. He struggled in DET last year in a small sample, but still has some pop, and could play 3B or RF in a pinch as well.
  14. Calendars come out in Sept/Oct, so they need to be "turned in" to the printer months before. Talk about a high margin item...they rarely cost the retailer more than 50 cents to $1...and often cost $10-15 at full price. Few items are profitable at 90% off.
  15. The Brewers really do not have anywhere to hide him, though he may still have options. He'd be a perfect target for the Royals, Pirates, Padres, etc.
  16. Seems obvious 2010 has something to do with the "release" year, or something along those lines. The T-Rats are not a fly by night operation, they're being truthful about how many bobbles that were made.
  17. We always get movies with no wait, 2 days after we mail 'em in. If you are a "non-profitable" customer...someone who gets 10-12+ movies a month on a 2-3 plan, they bump you down and send them to folks like me, who often keeps a movie a month or two, because we're watching the Brewers and Deadliest Catch Marathons. My wife had one for 3.5 months not long ago...Netflix adores us.
  18. Banks have pulled back limits in part due to so many people maxing them out before filing bankruptcy (or just ignoring collection attempts). Lawyers would suggest it even, it's as close as you can get to "something for nothing".
  19. He'll probably make more than Hart and not be as productive. 35+ guys rarely bounce back, they just fade away...Jenkins for example.
  20. He's basically Bill Hall without the ability to play lots of positions. Heether, or a veteran minor league FA, can do the same thing for the minimum.
  21. Doug could not take that chance, but once again, he shows he knows the market far better than most.
  22. DeRosa may be one of the most overrated players in MLB. He's certainly not bad, but other than his home games at Wrigley a couple years ago, he's been a consistent 750 OPS guy for several years, who might put up a fluky 800 OPS. He's not as good as Ty Wigginton, who you hear nothing about, and he is very similar to Mark Teahen, whose signed for less per year, is younger and faster, and whose signing was roundly criticized. If he could still play SS, he'd be worth twice that. However, he can't, and is well below average as a corner OF. He's not getting any younger either, as he's well past his prime.
  23. When we used that site, it said the state was "good winter driving conditions". From Boscobel to Madison, you could barely tell where the road was, from Madison to Wausau, like summer.
  24. From my experience, the road condition site is as reliable as asking my cocker spaniel.
  25. Those that have read Left Behind...isn't that a very depressing series? The mere possibility that the future has only the bad people remaining and the good leaving to go elsewhere seems very cult-like and depressing to me.
