  1. Suppan had a 4.75 ERA with a couple starts left, so he could have easily finished there. Many guys would have just shut down, like Bush did.
  2. Reports have him in CF with Ellsbury in LF...Cameron is aging, so he can be expected to decline, especially over 2 years.
  3. I would say another pitcher will be added via FA, a minor one of sorts, like a DJ Carrasco or someone like him...a reliever with the potential to start. Either that or a guy who falls and has to sign a minor league deal with an option out.
  4. That's a 15 win improvement, so it's probably very optimistic. However, this is what Doug is hoping for.
  5. If Counsell puts up a 900 OPS he might start over Escobar. That said, I doubt it.
  6. We've had trouble with our wireless for the past 30-60 days, I wonder if this is related.
  7. That is odd, I wonder if it has something to do with Weeks signing a major league deal upon signing. He'll be back, and will go to arby if not signed first.
  8. If McClung can stay healthy, he can be a very solid asset to any team. He was very good when healthy the past two years.
  9. McGehee won't be on the bench, and Amezaga gets out almost 70% of the time, so I don't care what side he gets out from.
  10. CV barely had a sub 5 ERA last year as a reliever, so he struggled all year. Hoffman, Hawkins, Vargas, Coffey, and Stetter would seem to be locks, and Narveson is out of options and would seemingly be kept after his superb stint as a SP. Needless to say, barring injury, CV is fighting for a spot.
  11. This fella would seem to me to be a perfect unsexy signing. He'd prefer to start, but he's a durable RP who could step in if necessary. He and Narveson would fill middle relief roles unless an injury occurred, and along with Butler, Murray, and probably Mulder, gives much needed depth to the rotation that was missing last year. If all were healthy, he'd probably force CV down to Nashville, which while you'd still have to pay him, also adds to the pitching in reserve. His secondary numbers, while not off-the-chart, are solid enough to indicate future success, or at least, non-suckiness. He'd also be a guy who'd probably sign a one-year deal if you told him he'd be the first guy to get a shot should a SP go down.
  12. If Hinske hit both ways, he'd be perfect. I agree with Briggs, I'd prefer a RH in that role.
  13. I would not mind Cat at all, but would prefer that final spot go to someone who is more of a legit HR threat. He's an OBP guy, and he performed fine, but I'd like to see a power bat.
  14. Also, has both started and relieved. Doug probably drafted him.
  15. I've thought Reed Johnson was a good fit for a while. Interesting idea about keeping an extra IF since Hernan and Adam can play OF somewhat. I'd like at least one guy who can be a legit HR threat off the bench, and to me, a RH 1B/LF type would be a match.
  16. But the point is, they could. If Prince blows out a knee and has to miss '11, they do not have $12M going to him. That's huge.
  17. Gomes might be the best corner OF other than Holliday or Bay. I assume he'll go where he has 500 AB's lined up.
  18. Wang is not going to pitch until May/June at the earliest. Let's not go throwing cash at him until we know he can pitch.
  19. He's a poor man's DeRosa, though Iribarren would be far cheaper, and I don't see a spot for him. I still say Johnson would be a superb pickup if you could trade Hart for Maine, or that type of younger pitcher.
  20. Tom H reporting Counsell and the Crew have agreed to terms, will be announced Monday.
  21. If you take a look at the math, it seems likely the top utility INF will play quite a bit, especially if he hits LH. That's why depth is so vital for contenders. Arguments that you can't win with an injury or two regardless of who you have on the bench are nonsensical, especially since Craig might be a better option than Escobar if you look at 2010 in a vacuum. Only about 75% of the AB's come from starters, so you need to have reserves that can play, and budget appropriate payroll to it.
  22. The main thing with the Bucks is, there's no TV market argument, Milwaukee isn't enough larger than Louisville or KC to justify an old, outdated arena. If the Sonics could move to OKC, the Bucks could easily go to KC, Louisville, Vegas, or a half-dozen other cities. Heck, if not for Herb Kohl (or someone just like him), they'd probably beat SEA out the door.
  23. Wow, something else I never heard of. I need to read more. Maybe if not for the 100 table hours of online poker a week...
  24. Sheets is coming off pretty major elbow surgery...I don't see him getting more than $2-3M until he proves he's healthy by having some workouts.
  25. KC is not just new and ready, they have people traveling around trying to fill it. They just missed the Penguins a while back.
