  1. I always see the title as "cigar admission", and my mind always thinks "I can't believe cigar places have a cover charge".
  2. The #10 ranked prospect in all of MLB would not be dealt unless SF got a proven vet in a deadline deal.
  3. JD got far less due to mental and injury concerns. If he pitches 200 frames, he's a bargain...but the over/under on him is probably about 80. Wolf's is more along the lines of 150. There are plenty of guys with talent, like Sheets, who will not be paid due to durability concerns. All you can do is play the math...a guy who projects to throw twice as many innings with similar results will get twice as much, or more, as teams don't have 7-8 SP's, which means AAA guys have to eat the missing innings.
  4. For a non closer, he's well overpaid. Yes, Hawkins looks to be a bargain, even moreso.
  5. It's simplistic to think guys somehow try harder and such before being a FA...those guys are already giving a high effort most all the time. That said, being in better shape, possibly sitting down when banged up (instead of playing at 75%), and "settling" for making good contact instead of swinging for the fence when up or down 10-2 in the 8th and 9th may lead to a small increase for a few guys. Needless to say, with a very good SP like Vasquez, how much better can he be? He's already a top 10-15 SP, it's not like he's not giving it his all, or that he's thrown 200 innings every year for a decade while being out of shape.
  6. They'll just have Hughes in the bullpen, barring injury.
  7. What I wonder is SEA's offense still sucks. Morrow must be disliked out there, as they gave him away for a guy who is Brandon's floor.
  8. Marquis had a 6+ ERA one year too. Gotta look at more than a single season, or your ability to project is nil. I like Jason for what he is, a solid innings eater.
  9. Swisher barely has outhit Hart over his career, and costs a lot more. I can't say it appeals to me, never mind you'd have to replace Suppan's innings very cheaply, which while possible, I doubt many of the 1y/$2-3M types will project much better than a 5ish ERA. I forgot to mention that while Swisher had a nice '09, much of that was likely Yankees Stadium induced. EDIT: Amazingly, Nick had far better numbers on the road, which tends to make me wonder if they're sustainable...3x more HR on the road?
  10. If Gamel was the 3B, I could see a fit. As is, Q is worthless versus 75% of the pitchers in MLB. Heether can't be much worse. I expect them to add another bat at some point, I've mentioned Reed Johnson as a potential fit.
  11. I think we're seeing why many guys do not want to play winter ball...1 AB thus far? What a waste of a holiday season.
  12. RD, around Wausau, many athletes sign to play D2, in MN and the Dakotas mostly. While I'm sure there are a few kids who prefer staying close to home or being a big fish in a small pond, when they interview them on TV after they sign a letter of intent, they all seem thrilled to be recruited at all, and like it's an opportunity they could not resist. I don't think many kids offered a free ride end up at the state schools, though I would think some may end up there after a year or two at a D2 school. Also, the MAC schools recruit heavily in the Upper Midwest, as the Big Ten does not dip far below the elite.
  13. Quinlan can neither play OF nor hit RHP, and can't play 2B/SS even for a couple days. I don't see a fit.
  14. I've probably known 500 attractive women, and I doubt over 1 or 2 would look decent in Misty's work attire. The fact she can wear that "bathing suit" and not show huge trouble spots makes her mighty good looking to me.
  15. That's whay happens in the minor league playoffs as well. I suppose it has to do with season tickets and the like.
  16. The point is, one or two players may well be NFL worthy, but the depth isn't close to D1 or even D1AA. Much of the linemen would have been outweighed by 75+ pounds versus a weak D1 team.
  17. Google pops up with "Misty May booty" if you start to type it in. For good reason.
  18. A friend of mine has a son who was recruited by a few D1 schools, but never offered a scholarship. He went to a 1AA school and was a preseason all-conference pick and such his senior year. At D1, he probably would have been a role player. At D3, he would have been a monster stud. The difference is huge. Some guys develop later and such, but most of the guys in D3 would struggle to make a two deep roster in D1...bigger, stronger, faster. Only a player or two on my HS team even played at the D3 level, and they were a playoff team. All the RB's today looked very small, and I suppose they are 25-50 pounds lighter than the D1 and NFL guys.
  19. Or the Dodgers can just sign a back of the rotation guy like Looper for less. By far the best option I can think of is to hope Suppan is able to hit his 4.50-4.75 ERA with 30 starts, and have depth like Narveson in case he does not.
  20. Nope, right along Clairemont near Sacred Heart and the Pizza Hut.
  21. It essentially leaves you with a 6 man bullpen. Not going to happen in the bigs, as it is not to win games, it's to rehab or develop.
  22. Career 4 ERA when not pitching in the Arlington bandbox. This may rank as one of the quieter, yet top moves of the offseason. No risk, high upside.
  23. Years ago, the cage I went to in EC used regular baseballs and softballs.
  24. I had no idea bats cost that much. Why do the cages use these strange balls?
  25. What a waste of seafood.
