  1. She may be grandfathered also. She sure doesn't take many classes in the summer...since she got her master's about 15 years ago, I cannot recall her taking a summer class.
  2. Gamel is not going to be handed 3B after his down season.
  3. My sister teaches and rarely has to take a summer class...she travels almost every summer. I know some who never do a thing outside of school, and some who work 80 hours a week. I know stockbrokers who do the same thing. It's not a necessity, but many feel it gives them an edge.
  4. We had the Charter bundle for ages at $99-109. When that expired and they would not match it, my wife told them to drop the phone. We're now back at $100 or so and just using cell phones.
  5. The time to get Snell was last year when PIT buried him in AAA. He's reestablished himself as a MLB SP.
  6. Tipping is expected if you go to a full service place or get delivery. If you do not care to tip, go pick it up, or go to a fast food place. There's nothing wrong with either option, as my wife or I often go pick up our pizza or Chinese, as it's well worth the $4-5 savings in delivery fee plus tip for us to give up 15 minutes and a mile or three. I delivered for 5 years back from '90-'95, and while it is strange why some get tips and some don't, it's tough to make an argument for not tipping without coming off as frugal and/or cheap. Back then, I averaged about 80 cents to a dollar per delivery, and I would expect it's double that now, maybe more. But, if you are ordering $15-20 of food, $2-3 to bring it to your door, often as hot as it was right out of the oven, is about as inexpensive as any service out there.
  7. As usual, not much of a stretch. Mulder will probably get a minor league deal with an out clause, so he might choose to go where he knows people, as money will be minimal. The Brewers wanted him last year, but he never progressed to that stage.
  8. Delivery jobs and restaurant waitstaff pretty much always rely on tips for a good share of their earnings. The only places I know of that pay more than market is a place like Old Country Buffet, and no, you really don't have a server there, just a guy/gal who keeps your drink full. A busser will probably make 50 cents to a $1/hr more there, and they work mighty hard for it as well.
  9. Crisp does have a decent OBP, and runs well, so yes, he could lead off. However, he's better suited to be a #6/7 hitter, unless he's on a weak offensive team, like the Royals.
  10. I think she's plenty cute, though I would say the same for any woman in her mid 20's. She'll never be a model, but neither will I.
  11. Casey, I give up, why is that so poorly written? It's clumsy, but certainly not bad. I of course defend all the Ch. 9 ladies, because they go out to local sports bars, flirt with hicks, and look cute doing so.
  12. Our agents showed us stuff like tiny cracks that probably meant foundation problems, rodent problems, the age of stuff in the utility room, and so on. He would tell us what type of siding was on each home as we walked up.
  13. You only have an inspector look over the house you make an offer on...your buyer's agent is with you every house.
  14. If she is in her 70's, the stock market is not a place for her, unless this is purely "fun money". What does she want to do with this money? Spend it someday? Transfer it to her kids? Use it to supplement her social security? Is she comfortable, or living month to month? Health? Life insurance? Also, if she invests in a CD, the interest is taxable, if she makes enough, which would make her return almost negative at today's rates.
  15. The big thing about a buyer's agent is they work for you...the other realtor works for the seller...they are under no obligation to tell you anything not legally required (the basement floods). An experienced realtor can tell you what stuff is likely to be replaced, if the roof looks like it's crap, and so on. There's no reason not to have one, as they get paid by the seller. Otherwise, the seller's agent pockets that share as well, probably by not telling you stuff.
  16. The obvious choice is Skiles, as they've built their marketing around him, and he's not going anywhere (unless he quits).
  17. Ankiel is coming off a poor year, even without many CF's on the market, he's probably a 1y/$3M guy. He's never been more than a platoon guy, so he should just go to whoever will give him AB's. As for Crisp, I was unaware he only played 49 games...I was thinking he got hurt in August. He may well lose a lot of worth, depending on what his injury was. UPDATE: Torn labrum, should be fine next year. He is a good sleeper option, as the Royals seem doubtful to pick up his option. Not much pop, but a very solid OBP, and not too far from average CF production offensively. Because of his lack of SLG, will probably cost less than half what Mike will, probably $4-5M, and likely to just take a one year deal as well, proving his health before cashing in.
  18. Crime has been steadily falling for the past 20 years...despite surveys that insist crime is going up.
  19. Morrow has a sub 4 career ERA, and has pitched pretty well as both a starter and a reliever...he's more the victim of high expectations than anything else. He's still just 24 as well, so he's got a few years before is improvement ceases. He was rushed, take a look at his minor league numbers, he was up very quickly...those guys often take time to iron out the rough edges.
  20. Morrow is a hard thrower who SEA has flipped between the closer role and a SP. He's also a big RHP, so add that to the fact he throws hard, he is Doug's "type". I'd say he has #2/3 SP potential, but as of this minute is more of a bottom of the rotation guy, or middle reliever. That said, given his velocity, size, and former top prospectdom, I'd say a swap of JJ for him makes too much sense to ever happen.
  21. Crisp has an option that has to be turned down first, and while good on D, is quite a drop from Cameron's '09 stats, and because of the lack of decent CF's on the market, and an emphasis on defense up the middle, will probably make 75% of what Cameron will. I'd go cheaper, Gerut, Ankiel, or the like.
  22. I just recall thinking he was heavy set then, but maybe that was just baby fat. That was several years ago. He looked "pudgy" for a pro ballplayer, but maybe it was all muscle.
  23. Don Money says Heether is not a SS either, other than a spot start here and there, so he's likely like McGehee. I know when he played in Appleton, Heether looked to be heavy, so limited range makes sense. Considering Adam is also not very young, I just don't see much of a future. With luck, maybe he'll break out like Casey, but I have a lot of doubts.
  24. I like Murton for what he is, a decent LF/RF and an excellent reserve or platoon guy.
  25. I'd love for the Cubs to spend $5-6M on Felipe when Fontenot can produce similarly for far less. Fontenot is underrated, though he is only a platoon guy...that said, RH 2B are a dime a dozen, so a platoon partner is an easy find.
