  1. Can you explain the holidays thought? Obviously, they have any legal holiday off, do they have to make up that day?
  2. I just don't see a reason to look for Polanco...he's older, has no upside, and is far from being much of an upgrade. Kelly Johnson is a guy who may be available that is a different type of player than Weeks that I would look up his price tag. I just don't see Polanco as anything but a stopgap, while Rickie is league average on offense and improving on defense, and still may get better.
  3. I am not familiar with the prospects ARI sent, but I doubt it. Haren's a great pitcher, but to give 18-24 years of big league service for him is a huge cost. I hated giving 12 for CC, and he pitched as well as a human being can.
  4. He actually finished almost exactly at his career norms...regress (or progress) to the means.
  5. Derek's probably went from 3y/$45M to 4y/$70M in the past month. He wants to play out East, and he's from MI...very little chance for MIL.
  6. I would think Chris is aware it will be a rehab year. I'd guess 1y/$1M, maybe even less. If he gets healthy, he'll break the bank in '10, so it won't be all about money.
  7. I wouldn't think of dealing 3-4 top prospects or young players for a single pitcher who is one pitch away from rehab.
  8. I would assume Cappy will sign for a reduced amount, and continue to rehab. He hinted a handshake deal was already in place when they talked to him on TV in Arizona.
  9. They are looking at medical records, so it must be either Brantley or Green...of course, we all but knew that. Considering Brantley finished the year playing and Green did not, I'd say that leans towards them looking at Taylor, like Mass has said. Mike is rather light and thin, so I would not think that'd be a medical records thing, more of a "get him on weights and 3000 calorie shakes" thing.
  10. It wasn't "routine", but he should have had it. If Hall makes the play, it's probably a DP. And the day I start living differently because of a belief in the supernatural, I'll admit myself to the special ward at the hospital down the street.
  11. I believe you almost always have to start as a part-timer as well.
  12. Braun is probably as available as Wright or Reyes. Beltran is about a decade older and might be had, but you don't trade your best young players very often, unless it's a total rebuild.
  13. I believe he thinks he knows, but has never been told officially by the Tribe. He's heard from a contact or an insider, but it is just heresay.
  14. All these years in the NL, and many still do not seem to understand what and why a double switch is made. Of course, we still hear about so and so being a long reliever, even though that role really does not exist in the NL, so I guess I should not be surprised. I won't get into guessing about next year until I know who the GM is, as it's tough to type out several what ifs, considering most will never happen.
  15. Angel and Mike seem low to me on that list, though they may have talked to managers before Gamel slumped.
  16. He did tell one of his clients that he expects them to be one named as the PTBNL. However, no official word has been said.
  17. I doubt Braun moves, and Damon can't be expected to produce much more than an average LF...for $13M per. The Yankees made some horrible signings, too much to guys that were too old. Damon was a nice player, but he's a CF offensively, and very weak defensively. Dejesus is signed to a very friendly contract, and Damon is overpaid. Dave will cost a lot more because of that.
  18. I can't see Nelson playing RF, barring injury. I would think Dale may well have been comparing Brad to Russ and Joe...and no doubt, Nelson played a lot more OF than either of them this year.
  19. I'd be tempted to go with 9-10 pitchers myself. With the days off and CC going twice, you don't need a lot of innings eaten. However, with Yo as a starter, you gotta add one to cover for him.
  20. Doesn't untouchable usually mean "not going to be traded"? I see no match with SF at all, they will be looking to trade Winn and the like. Check back next July.
  21. Lee is not a bad OF at all, better than Dunn and guys like that. Carlos doesn't run any harder than he has to, but that's how he's stayed healthy all these years.
  22. It's a muscle tear that will heal with rest...just no chance to rest in October. Arby is a no brainer. Why you'd offer him a long-term deal with yet another injury is beyond me.
  23. Raise your % you invest 1-2% a year until you hit 15%. If you get promoted and get a big raise, raise it all at once, you will probably never notice.
  24. Huntsville is a pitcher's park.
