  1. I'm continually confused about what how many "aces" or "TOR starters" people think there are in MLB. Between the Archer discussion and this comment, people are really boiling this down to pretty much Kershaw. Last year, there were only 11 guys in all of MLB that had 200 IP and a sub-4 ERA. Wouldn't that, by definition, qualify as TOR? Davies and Chacin were very close to 200 ip.and sub 4 era. They aren't tor guys.
  2. Yeah... I dont have the 2 at the same level. Arrieta looks primed for a fast and hard decline. Yu... not so much. Jamie Garcia cheaply please!
  3. Older than Grisham, and behind Grisham. Not high on him at all and hoping he's not a bust.
  4. Jaime Garcia 12/2...as in 6 mil aav... 2nd year 1 mil buyout.
  5. Oh that ships sailed... so much infact that its docked at its destination. Better chance of getting az's next man up to have the same type of explosion. Walker.
  6. I don't see Arizona getting rid of Duplantier since they're getting rid of a pitcher and he seems to be a legit lights out prospect. But, I could see us getting Pavin Smith along with Corbin for Santana. I'm curious why you'd call him a legit lights out prospect. Hes 23 tearing up high a. Thats not what I think of when I think of legit lights out. Nor are arm issue concerns.
  7. I noticed the horizontal accuracy this article speaks of. There were times where I remember going, yeah that missed inside corner pitch on the outer 1/3rd. Thing is, I also remembering the pitch being good enough that it often still worked. While accuracy is very important, he has enough quality in his pitches to get away with it a fair amount of the time. It's not a positive but I dont feel it's as damaging as it could be. The nelson we saw last year didn't exist before last year. Hopefully woodruff can polish up the alterations he needs quicker than Jimmy.
  8. Yeah the market is what the market is though. Nothing that the Brewers or any of us can really control. $20M plus a year is nothing to sneeze at though and hey, maybe Stearns has a connection will let us in on his tipping of pitches. I highly doubt the pitch tipping continues this year.
  9. Yelich while keeping all of our pitching prospects intact. Yamamoto is a decent arm add but he's essentially a ticket. We need to graduate good pitching to truly contend.
  10. Top 30? He was worse than Davies. Davies is good but not top 30. He's not all tgat much better than Chacin.
  11. If Darvish doesn't come here, (unlikely) him not going to chicago or going to chicago at a massive price tag was my hope. We got neither... thus its bad.
  12. Cotton is a hold for sure. Exactly why I'd buy him at the right price. If he's there to be added you do it if the price is right. Anyway you can get more posdible quality pitching in the system you do it. I'd also have no issue giving him a crack over the guerra wilkerson suter (who i want as the long man) gallardo crop. While he's likely to be rough at 5 now, give him some time in the mlb before johnson send him down with a template to work towards.
  13. While I don't disagree with your valuations walker is 25 and has ace level potential. He's a possible star in the making. To control that 25 26 27. Well we talk salazar for Domingo around here. I'd rather have Walker. Straight up, I wouldn't flinch. I'd see it as a steal. Walker could blossom into a downright monster and I see last years uptick as a clear his throat year. I have no interest in Drury but Id do santana dubon and a ticket arm for walker easily. Immediately I'd offer walker an anderson arby buy out extension contract.
  14. Seriously, why is it you have to stoop to this level every chance you get. Says a lot about your ability to defend your position when this is all you have. So if someone has a differing opinion they are depressed? Stellar logic there. Fact is, the Cubs were better and just took another pretty big step forward. Saying "yeah, but we have Brent Suter" isn't going to cut it. Make that argument on a neutral board and see how quickly you get blown up. I actually agree with 82 on this. Was ticked about a cheap deal on darvish for the cubs. Even with a healthy nelson. Nelson anderson davies woodruff v darvish Q lester hendricks... they just ensured their rotation is better for 2 more years. Our window is 3 before its decision time.
  15. Corbin is basically Chacin. At the same price as Chacin. That means essentially market value. He's worth basically diplan or a nottingham type prospect. We could add a guy like that at the deadline much like we did in getting walker and swarzak. Santana for Corbin is laughable. I would like corbin on the team. I think he's pretty decent. If the choice was santana for corbin or buy garcia... I'll buy garcia. No 2 top 100 prospects... no santana. Santana should hold value around yelich - brinson. Smith duplanteir corbin... ok ill toss in diplan.
  16. Yeah his first 4-5 starts gave me the jimmy nelson vibe as well. Guy with some heft to his pitches who just comes at you and makes you do something with his stuff. He faded but we can't be sure where he is just yet. I could see him being anything from 3.8 to 4.8 this year. Either way its a guy you want with this much control. We had garza in that role last year and there was no upside there. Woody you can hope is Nelson good at some point and hope for Davies results this year. He's a clear upgrade on our 4-5 spots last year. I don't think he's TOR like Nelson showed last year but a 3 is very possible. Since I'm hoping for 2 TOR types (maybe anderson and nelson are just that) and three 3s (davies is very close to 1). We need him to be a 3. I don't see it as unlikely. The question is who is the other 1. Hader, burnes, could chacin improve, add one. I still think my hope is at least a year off.
  17. Azs farm is very thin. Top 2 prospect there isn't as valuable as it sounds. Top 70 top 100 isn't a huge haul.
  18. Kershaw, Bumgarner, Scherzer, and Sale right now to me are the only "aces" in MLB. Id add kluber and stroman... and last year gio was one. Take out mad last year but the 4 previous years he sure was one. Kuechel strasberg (missed time) verlander (if you dont count playoffs) were just off ace level but really close. Carrasco was up there too. Notice lots of 200 ip sub 3 are what I call ace.
  19. Their top 2 prospects. 2 top 100s... Smith a mid 60s contact plus 1b, Duplanteir a barely top 100 pitcher. Smith, duplanteir and corbin for Santana would be a smart, a little boost now but value in prospects later deal. Like anderson diaz for segura.
  20. I like Suter a lot and I think they guy is smart without being a fragile headcase like some pitchers can be. This makes him adaptable. Between that and the fact that our entire starting rotation is rhp... and he's a lefty.... he's the perfect long man who you can toss in the game if a guy on the verge of imploding or if a guy is merely struggling to find his spots on a random day. He's a quick hook impromptu piggy back option. You can use him as another loogy option. He's smart and stays relaxed. He should be a swiss army knife because those can be very useful and its rare to find guys who can actually be that. As for Davies. He just needs to avoid his first 3-4 starts altogether. I'd prefer not to go on trusting gallardo guerra wilkerson to be our 5 so I'd like a 1 year hole plugger. Jamie Garcia would do the trick. Cheap add of corbin... etc.
  21. Ace- the special arms who are in a class of their own... hyped as the best and back it up multiple years. Might be 8 to a max of 12 in the entire league right now. Tor- top 30 or 60 pitcher in baseball. Not the 1-2 on a team but a guy who would be a 1-2 in a league wide redraft. Nelson and Anderson had TOR seasons last year when they were healthy.
  22. Right, but that's also why the opt-out is terrible for the team. The best case scenario for the contract is that Darvish does great and leaves after two years. The worst case is that he does terribly and they are stuck with a $126 million albatross. You are taking on all of the risk without the possible reward of 6 years of a great pitcher. Obviously any team would love to have Darvish on a 2/$42M contract and then he leaves. But here you have the major added risk of him being bad and a $85M penalty kicks in for your misfortune. Yeah he opts out after a great 2 years paid at 21/2 the cubs make out like bandits. Removed long term risk and a bargain deal at 21 mil per.
  23. You point at 2020. That my exact point. 18 19 Darvish helps them a great deal. Likely the same in 2020 if no opt out. Our 3 guys we dealt would be 25 then. Every pospect doesnt have to be in the mlb by 23 to end up good. They are blocked sure. But 2020-2021 is a big sell off year unless they think they have a ws team in the next 2 years.. A lot of impact players control ceases and they go FA in 2021-2022. Fas we wont be able to retain if they continue to be good. Pushed the cubs in their down year. They get Q Improve this year and keep the heat on them. They steal Darvish. He'll fade sure, but not in the window we have lined up. Its getting old. I'm sick of them being able to pull another ace out of their sleeve and GET A GOOD DEAL on that ace. Again... archers asking price beats Qs by a lot and I'm not even sure archer is as good.
  24. This makes our offseason foolish. First off would you offer him 21/2... yeah 42 mil over 2 years would be insanely good on him so the opt out would be great. 6 years, yeah long time. Too long. Its a 100/5 with 5 mil defered yo the 6th year each year. Our offseason was to get a 4 year window. Where would we be year 5-6 rebuilding with a 60 mil payroll. He'd be our braun in that. This hurt mke over the next 3 years dramatically. We just added 2 guys for 5 years and have a 4 year contract on all our established talent. Tick tack toe and they just threw an X in the spot we needed. No one is excited about year 4-5 of cain. The market depreciating so the big budget cubs can get a sweetheart deal on a 3.2-3.4 era arm is not to our benefit in any way. Basically I see another round of firesale coming before a division title. Stearns reaction to this should be to do less. Q for less than TB wants to stick us up for Archer and now Darvish on a soft deal. 3 years of wc hunting and a fire sale. Just awesome!
  25. If you plan to add a high end starter. Was the price for Q lower than.the archer ask?
