    I’m sure the 8 million dollars a year Counsell is getting has him sleeping well at night. The Cubs GM is pretty conservative, so I doubt they would make a major move giving up blue chip prospects to fight for the 2nd wild card if they can continue to tread water until the end of July

    I dunno, when he’s got 2 walks, a steal, scored from second on a throwing error, Tripled, homered, and scored 3 of their 4 runs i was okay with walking him.

    There’s light rail that drops off at the stadium too, so depending where you stay you may not have to drive and park.

    He’s using it because it was free premium gear. As a non 40 man roster minor leaguer I bet they don’t buy premium storage gear for the players. Hiura has probably arrived at his last chance in pro-ball having signed another minor league deal with the Angels who have holes in their roster at 2B and 1B

    It is interesting the things people recall. I remember that in ‘22 Wong’s production against LHP cratered to such an extent he was a platoon player in year 2 of his contract. You may very well be right, they picked up his club option so they could trade him but they also included cash to Seattle for Winker who gave the Brewers 0. Seems they would’ve been ahead just to let him walk. It’s interesting to me that both trades and free agency is risky, but the Brewers rarely get burned in a trade yet their free agent signings have all been underwhelming to flops.

    I figured you’d say that. Theres a metric to make any point one wants to make. Brewers are spending 28.5 million this year on Hoskins, Sanchez and Miley. Hoskins hits homeruns is league average at getting on base but can’t run and is below average in everything else. Sanchez hits homeruns and is below average everywhere else. Miley wasnt healthy when camp opened. Poor production for their 28.5 million dollars any way you cut it.

    Getting the better end of trades over the last couple of years offsets how miserable the Brewers have been in free agency. At least 16 million for Hoskins who has been slightly better than replacement level. 8.5 million for Wade Miley had issues staying healthy not been able to the last 3-5 years. Gary Sanchez doesn’t have an every day position that is making $4 million for a 0.1 bWAR. To tie into your trade comments, the JBJ signing was so bad they had to give up quality prospects just to move his contract for Renfroe. The Kolten Wong signing didn’t work out; he was traded in a cost-cutting deal for Jesse Winker who gave the Brewers absolutely nothing. The Lorenzo Cain signing also was a disaster another player seemingly always with nagging injuries which eroded his skills and lead Brewers to eat millions of dollars when they designated him for assignment. So I think it’s safe to say theyre astute when it comes to making trades and the opposite in free agency

    Why do people always knock the Brewers medical team? As if they’re flunkies who went to medical school in the Bahamas. Bone spurs are caused by a loosening of the ligament. The bone spurs will always be a hindrance unless they’re removed or the cause of them (loose ligament) is fixed. More probably true than not the Brewers medical team looked at his MRI and said the ligament isn’t torn so let’s be conservative and go with rest and rehab. El-Attrache likely looked at the same films as the team doctors and recommended surgery for a new ligament in order to cure the elbow pain problem once and for all. Seems to me Gasser is the one who doesn’t know what to do. Understandable in his situation having had elbow pain in the spring, did the rest and rehab only to have elbow pain reoccur and impair his ability to pitch effectively. On the other hand the procedure to permanently fix the elbow pain could result in him never getting back to the majors. Tough choice

    They’ll wake up tomorrow in first place, so the criticism is they should be winning even more? Murphy literally has a rotation primarily filled with bullpen arms and cast offs; he has at least a half dozen first year players. He’s used 22 pitchers and it’s not even Memorial Day, his all world closer has been injured all season, their former NL MVP has missed a large chunk of time. Yet, he has them in first place and is getting more than anyone expected out of guys like Hudson, Wilson, Bauers, etc. Maybe Murphy deserves a little credit

    His starter left after 1 inning. He pushed all the right buttons (including Bench Guy Monasterio with a homer) and his closer blew the save. What’s he supposed to do? He sets his lineups so his best hitters will get the most at bats. If you want to criticize Adames or trying to keep a couple arms he used yesterday fresh for the rest of the series, or defensive positioning, I think we are in nitpick territory

    Come on man! Weimer hit .269/.359/.489 in 1110 at bats in the minors. Hit for power, can run, throw, and play CF. The swing is what got him those numbers and to the major leagues at 24 years old. I get what you’re saying but the converse is also true:, if a kid with that kind of talent couldn’t play for you, then you’re not the right coach for the job. Same deal with the Brewers, the talent is there they need somebody to get it out of him at the major league level.

    You left out the salient point about Contreras where he quote said “I’m not interested in that”. Obviously any team can sign any player if they’re willing to pay whatever it takes, but we all know that isn’t happening with the Milwaukee Brewers As for the status of boards; I am not demeaning anyone, the truth hurts Homie. There is a reason hardly any of the posters from the old BF.net still post here regularly anymore.

    Joe Ross isn’t exactly the picture of durability over the course of his career. That they got seven weeks out of him is probably about right

    Read the whole thread first to get some context. A couple pages back I posted straight news from a chat at js.com:. Contreras isn’t signing an extension with Milwaukee. Next, there’s a litany of posts wondering how much it would take to get it done and if it’s a good deal or not etc. I reiterate that from the horses, mouth and extension isn’t going to happen and get attacked for it. No wonder why these boards kind of suck now

    This used to be a place for the informed fan, now it’s apparently for throwing hypotheticals to sign a player who is on record THIS SEASON as saying “not interested” in an extension and “my time will come”. Great, let me get in on the action: I hope they resign Burnes this winter too. I’m figuring he liked it in Milwaukee and probably care more about where he pitches than making the absolute most money so 3/100 would probably get it done.

    He has a pending appeal of his suspension so upon resolution it likely would be fewer than six games he’d actually be suspended for. Plus looking at his AAA numbers. 5+ bb/9 and less than a 2:1 k:bb ratio, he has not mastered his command issues so there’s no real reason to bring him back anytime soon.

    I agree neither profiles as a star in the majors BUT I don’t think I am overestimating. I only wrote both will likely see time in the major leagues. How much time and what their ceiling might eventually be nobody knows. Given how few farmhands actually make it, trading away two guys who will probably cross that threshold certainly isn’t nothing.

    Very well could be, then again they traded two guys who likely will see action in the big leagues to get Clarke. That they traded more than just “lottery tickets” is the kind of investment which suggests they will want him on the 26 man sooner than later if he’s healthy and ready to go.

    Taylor Clarke will most likely be up in a week or so, after knocking of rust in AAA. The real question is are they gonna be able to keep riding these guys to the end of July and not have them falter?

    Maybe, but what team needs a SS rental and is also ready to give something of value to get one? Supply and demand will top fWAR everytime

    110 games or so of Wily Adames probably isn’t worth much at all. Low level minor leaguer or a couple of young fringe major league arm. Frankly the Brewers would be best off to keep him, make the QO and get the draft pick

    I don’t know why folks keep posting about an extension. There was an article in the JS a few weeks back where he was asked about an extension and said “Not Interested”. End of story.

    Please read more carefully, what I said was 100% correct, the Brewers will owe Hoskins 22 million dollars in ‘25 if he decides to return. I don’t know why you’re arguing with me over semantics. Given Hoskins hasn’t done much besides hit homers, and is now injured it could very well be he returns in ‘25.
