  1. Apparently the Rams inquired about Rodgers' availability before they agreed to trade for Stafford, and were told adamantly by Gute that Rodgers wasn't available. That ought to put to rest the narrative that Gute is a lone Wolf that doesn't like Rodgers or wants him gone.
  2. So are we counting 2020 or not? A lot of people say we can't count anything that happened in 2020 because, well, it was 2020. Now some are saying to look at 2020 to determine if the Reds were successful... Which is it? Well, it was obvious IMO that they were going for it last year. Not they are cutting costs. Weird situation, but when you make a bunch of short-term signings, and they don't work, then unload money after that season, I would say that they were not successful. It will certainly be interesting to see if guys like Moose and Castellanos make a jump this year. If they do, the Reds certainly have the talent to compete with the Cardinals. Right now I think the Brewers and Cubs might be a slight step below those teams.
  3. How many times are you going to say this? You're a fan on a message forum, not a team spokesperson. I was literally being called out by another poster, and felt obligated to explain my viewpoint. Not real sure what you're getting at here. If your goal is to go after repetitive thoughts, there are a few around here who abuse that much more than I have, IMO. Kinda wish I was a team spokesman, because I would at least hopefully have some sort of idea on what the plan actually is for 2021 right now. But I'm at a loss trying to figure it out.
  4. At least they made moves to improve the team... Cant control what happens during the season, thats the great thing about baseball. You're right, that is the great thing about baseball. It's a lesson that the pennant is never, ever won in January. I think a lot of us need to remind ourselves of that sometimes. I'm frustrated by the lack of significant roster improvement, but regardless of if the Brewers were super active this time of year, it's still going to take a lot of things going right for them to win the pennant.
  5. Remember last year when the Reds made a bunch of splashy moves, and people thought they'd run away with the NL Central?
  6. That is getting close, but would decimate the top of the Brewers' system, and the Dodgers or Braves could beat it without batting an eye. I bet he ends up with the Braves, probably for a mess of overrated pitching prospects.
  7. Don't get your hopes up. He'd cost a mint. In fact, you might have to give up Hiura for him, along with Hader or Burnes/Woodruff. Ramirez is a stud, and the Brewers don't have near the prospects to pull off that type of deal without pulling from the major league club.
  8. But they have to give up prospects to get him, maybe the dont want to do that. They can easily just resign Turner. All the Dodgers would likely have to do is pretty much take on Bryant's contract. He isn't going to be worth much in prospects.
  9. The problem with Gyorko is that you're chasing a career year from a 32 year old journeyman who is unlikely to replicate his 2020 and is far more likely just another middling option. It's not all that different than giving Sogard 4 million following a good 2019 and then getting no return on the investment once he inevitably reverted back to career norms in 2020. Gyorko is slightly better than Sogard as far as career journeymen infielders go but not by a lot. Don't get me wrong he would be better than nothing but there is a reason the Brewers turned down a reasonable $4.5M option on Gyorko and that tells you a lot about what they think about his chances are to sustain his 2020 performance. All true. It was my hope that when they turned down Gyorko's option, they did it with a plan in mind to get something better there. But here we are, on Jan. 30, less than 3 weeks from the start of Spring Training, and we're looking at a competition between Luis Urias, Daniel Robertson and Tim Lopes for time at 3B, and Daniel Vogelbach seeing full time work at 1B. Perhaps the Brewers are much more bullish on Robertson or Lopes than I am, and I know that Gyorko is far from a sure thing, but he does at least have a track record of quality major league production, including recent production as a Brewer. And looking at what is left in the 3B free agent market after Justin Turner, Gyorko is probably near the top of the list, for better or worse.
  10. I'm hoping not to see you lecturing any posters in the near future about being negative and disappoiinted in what has transpired this off season. If you are ""allowed" to make a post like that, I don't think you have any room to ridicule those who doon't feel good about what has happened to this point. Actually, welcome to reality... At some point, we all get beaten down, looks like you are reaching that point. Yep ... you're right. I've carried water for this organization for years, and have come off as a jerk here often in doing it. I apologize for that. I talked myself into the moves they made last year, and those for the most part failed. I figured they'd come into this offseason with a different philosophy, but it's just been more of the same. I'm far from done with this team, and I know I'll still probably remain more optimistic than most about this team's chances, but I definitely see the other side now more than ever. That said, the phrase "dumpster diving" still really grates on me. To me, the only "dumpster dive" the Brewers actually did last year was Gyorko, and that ended up working out.
  11. I think it has been proven by now that the Cubs giving up a player like Torres was an aberration, and we probably need to stop using that move as a template for what can be expected for Hader. That was an incredibly short-sighted move for the Cubs (even though it did lead to a WS title), as it likely cut their projected window significantly. That doesn't mean that the Brewers cannot get good value for Hader. But if you are expecting a top 10 MLB prospect talent, you're gonna be disappointed.
  12. I'd be totally fine with Gyorko coming back. He was very good last year. With Yelich and Hiura hitting like crap all year, he was probably the reason this team was able to back into the playoffs at all.
  13. Any of Joey Wendle, Mike Brosseau, Brandon Lowe or Kevin Padlo make sense as a piece coming back from the Rays (I would prefer Lowe), along with one of their young pitching prospects (of which they have many). The Rays would probably have to throw in something else significant, though.
  14. I will take anything that isn't "Brewers sign (insert random utility infielder) to a 1-year MLB minimum (or minor league) deal." Please, just give us something! I know the Brewers aren't going to schedule their moves to appease the fanbase, but I was really hoping for some positive Brewers news this week to help get over last weekend's depressing Packers performance. But instead we get tidbits about the Brewers being attached to a few players, only to see several of them sign with different clubs for affordable, short deals.
  15. Gallows humor? Lets assume June 1 is the day they can open up the park to an unlimited amount of fans. How many tickets will they be able to sell if their already a dozen games behind and many people still scared to be in crowds and looking for any excuse to avoid them? The division was there for the taking. Maybe not so much now, but ownership isn't doing anything to excite fans back to the stadium. Agreed. Wholeheartedly. The Brewers could have done something ... anything ... to really excite this fanbase going into a 2021 season that will hopefully welcome fans back. They most assuredly have not done that, though. At all. I am actually less excited about this team now than I was at any time watching that boring, milquetoast team they put on the field in 2020. I expected the team to go a different route than they did last year, where they decided to fill holes with lower priced veterans. I was hoping they'd swing for the fences a little more, with either some big trades to bring in some new blood, or a big signing or two. But instead they've done practically nothing so far other than add more utility infield-types to this squad, and it's gotten to the point of being depressing. I'm sure at some point I'll start talking myself into Daniel Robertson, but I am most assuredly not there yet.
  16. I also tried to put Braun at 3B in RBI Baseball. He made three errors, but he did hit a two-run homer, and I won the game 8-7. I mean, if that isn't proof that moving him back to 3B would work, I'm not sure what is!
  17. All this frustration is setting in. It's going to be funny come October when we look back at the numbers and see that Daniel Robertson finished with a higher .OPS than Arenado.
  18. Seems like a good idea to me. Maybe you're on to something!
  19. I just did that on RBI Baseball on my son's Switch yesterday. Signed Trevor Bauer as well, and traded for Trey Mancini. The moves worked on the game, so they'll work in real life, too, right? That seems to be how the minds of a lot of fans operate.
  20. Maybe Sara Goodrum can play 3B? I'm not even sure if that should be in blue ...
  21. Pretty much every player the Brewers have been connected to in the past week has signed other than Ozuna and Turner. I'm sensing a trend. I expect those guys signed by other teams by the end of the weekend.
  22. I've been carrying water for the Brewers, their ownership and their front office for years. Faith is dwindling. Big time.
  23. This is exactly what happens when they don't throw the vaccines away (and they shouldn't). Someone's gonna skip the line and sometimes that person will be rich. Right. If someone wants the vaccine, and has the opportunity to get one that would otherwise go to waste, by all means, shoot 'em up. I was initially scheduled to get the vaccine next Friday, but got a call from my provider that they had six cancellations today, so they had six doses that they needed to used before they expired at 6:30 p.m. tonight. So I jumped in the car and went, and my wife and I got our first doses of the Pfizer vaccine at 1:30 this afternoon. I was the 50th person they called this morning, but was the first to pick up the phone and confirm that I could make it today. People possibly need to be more flexible with their schedules, and maybe answer the phone right now, even if it from an unfamiliar number. I hope the clinic was able to find takers for those other four doses. I realize that jobs and life can sometimes make that impossible. Fortunately I was able to move my schedule around to make it work.
  24. I don't know if he would have even been mentioned as a possibility if he wasn't at least considering it.
  25. Come on, man, how long have you been a Brewer fan? Making moves like that is 100% in their playbook. 34 years.... And I know.... What if he sucks at it? Then the right side of our infield is TERRIBLE. I like Rosario, just nervous about putting him at a position he's never played before... I mean they thought Braun could do it and look how that turned out. The fact that they are even considering this is pretty much proof that they must see the current free agent and trade market for established first basemen as downright terrible. And looking at the names out there, it's hard to disagree. Rosario can likely play all 3 OF spots, in addition to possibly 2B. If he can play a passable 1B, that LH stick would be a boon to this lineup. Right now, Dan Vogelbach currently holds the #1 spot on the 1B depth chart. I've been assured by several here (including you I believe) that his defense at 1B would be terrible. I would assume that if they are serious about signing Rosario, and converting him to 1B, that either they are confident that his athleticism would allow him to make the switch rather easily, or that many of us, as fans, tend to dwell on the value of defense at 1B much more than we probably should.
