  1. Need to see a heck of a lot more of Urias before making that call I think, but early returns aren't good, that's for sure
  2. Lauer has thrown 40 pitches in two innings. This isn't just bad luck. He isn't hitting his spots, and doesn't have the stuff to get away with that.
  3. I was a big Davies guy, but they basically throw the same crap. Only difference is Lauer is a lefty, and is younger with more years of control. Davies got slapped around plenty unless his control was top notch.
  4. Yeah but if that were you, you would have had a different life. Most likely you didn’t go to Homecoming or Prom or party with the boys in high school, too busy training or playing ball. There would have been no “typical college experience”, you would have been too busy working year round. Or riding a bus in the minor leagues. Competing against players older and stronger than you. Seeing your friends have their careers end because they didn’t produce or because of injuries, and knowing every day that could be you. Playing in pain most days of the season. Your body breaking down and people offering you Roids but knowing that could end your career too, if caught, or hurt your health. Meanwhile your wife is calling, asking about the bills. You are hoping she’s still being faithful to you even though she’s young and hot looking and you are away for months at a time. Then you finally make it to the Majors and you need to be able to hit 95 mph pitches with crazy movement, preferably for power, or get sent home. Yeah, Baseball players lives aren’t as easy as it seems. First of all, I wholly reject the notion that these guys are missing out on prom, hanging with the boys or the college experience. I'd say it's far more likely these guys are homecoming kings and have a college experience far more enhanced than the average person. And even if it is, that is a choice they are making. They were just as likely to have had the privilege of playing travel ball at thousands of dollars a season with access to elite level resources (even in high school) and top end medical treatment that most kids will never have access to. Even if you are 100% accurate it still boils down to a choice that the player was privileged enough to have. Having to get a job at 14 to help the family pay the bills, wondering where your next meal is coming from or fearing being shot walking to a crappy school is probably far less stressful than what a baseball player has to do. There is an exceptionally large swatch of children in this country that would LOVE to worry about whether taking a performance enhancing drug is the right choice over whether the next hit is the last one for their opioid addicted parent. Never mind that these kids had ZERO choice in any of these decisions. My heart truly goes out to those ball players whose wives are so hot that it makes the player an insecure puddle. I mean, what does an average person know about working to hold relationships together. My goodness those players have it so rough. Yeah for every Bryce Harper who was basically built in a lab, there are probably 50 guys who just grew up focused on playing baseball, but otherwise had the typical high school jock experience.
  5. Yeah, the presidents of all these schools all got together and said, "Hey, let's cancel our biggest money maker for no reason!" Come on man.
  6. With how hot Pina has been, it would be a shame to sit him.
  7. I had so few expectations for Gyorko going into this season, I think he's already exceeded them.
  8. Braves - Nope, I don't trust anyone in that system, especially pitchers. Overhyped. Dodgers - That would be a good deal, Gonsolin and Haese are studs. Not gonna get Lux though. Padres - Intriguing, Indians - Nope ... not real interested in either of those guys A's - I agree, love that deal. Yankees - There isn't a pole long enough for me to touch that deal with. Garcia is their #1 by default, but the system sucks. He's a very poor man's Freddy Peralta. And Florial seems like he must be about 30, he's been on prospect lists for so long. White Sox - I like that one. Twins - That is an intriguing one too. Nice job on these!
  9. I get the thinking but I would think GMs share your though process here. Probably. But at this point, who knows?
  10. If I'm the Packers, I trade 2021 draft picks for a WR upgrade ASAP. Not only is the upgrade probably needed, there is no telling if a 2021 draft will even happen.
  11. https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/neck-gaiters-may-actually-increase-covid-19-transmission-study-finds-183034882.html?.tsrc=daily_mail&uh_test=2_06 I think the gaiter mask they tested in this case was a very thin spandex-type material. I've seen gaitor-style masks available in many different materials.
  12. I think we all know what he meant... Yeah, but I don't even think that's really correct, though. I mean, other than the 2019 offseason when they grabbed Grandal on an affordable 1-year deal and resigned Moose after his market fell apart on the eve of Spring Training, and I guess in 2018 when they signed Cain to that deal, have the Brewers ever really made much of a splash on the free agent market? It seems this team's MO is typically to search out guys who the market is not kind to, or guys no one else wants, and try to catch lightning in a bottle. This past offseason was a return to the norm more than anything. Signing Cain, and then Grandal and Moose last year kinda spoiled this fanbase, but I don't think that those sort of moves were ever going to be the norm.
  13. Third base is understandable since there were no good options without paying someone big. First base was deciding to dump Thames, a contributor and popular player, in order to save $2M. Attanasio was really stingy last offseason and it really cost us. They paid out the biggest contract by far in the team's history ... but sure, really stingy.
  14. This. Right now those who can physically wear a mask without issue, but instead are openly defying the mandate, are the ones who are making this situation extremely difficult for those who truly cannot wear one. COVID has already put people on edge. Why add to that angst by openly defying a mandate in the name of your "freedoms", "rights" or whatever? All it accomplishes is making you look selfish.
  15. Big boost for Castellanos's market if the NL permanently adds the DH too. I don't know if that would even matter at this point. If he puts up MVP-type numbers this year, after going so with the Cubs last year, I highly doubt an NL team wouldn't be willing to put up with his below average glove in the corner OF, or even corner IF, to get his bat in the lineup.
  16. Dang how good would have Castellanos looked in a Brewers jersey the next few years? He's gonna be a big thorn in their side now. Dude is a great hitter.
  17. Live, from 7 to 8 p.m. (hopefully longer for our guy), it's the Lauer Bauer Power Hour! Sorry, couldn't help it.
  18. One might say he's not even Avisail Garcia out there... I imagine we'll see Keon Broxton before too long. Or they could get crazy and bring up Corey Ray or Tyrone Taylor.
  19. I wonder if that was embarrassing and predictable?
  20. Seeing the Marlins go on a winning streak is a pretty great reason to love baseball. Former (sorta) Brewer Mike Morin got the win today.
  21. It's a good thing that they have another guy who has proven to be a pretty good LF Moving Garcia to CF instead of just putting Gamel there is a curious move on the surface. I'm sure they have a reason for doing it, though. I would imagine we'll eventually see Keon Broxton a lot in CF. Broxton is going to struggle offensively, but his defense is top-notch.
  22. Sogard has been pretty good so far, he's one of the only Brewers who is not painful to watch at the plate. LoMo is only on the team because of the expanded roster. Smoak is the only one that I would agree with, I would have rather kept Thames around. Pretty good? I mean he has taken a bunch of walks, but outside of that he has been pretty bad (as shown by his barely .700 OPS). His entire career he has never taken that many walks so that’s likely a fluke and he isn’t actually Barry Bonds when it comes to drawing walks. Compared to the rest of the Brewers he is an All Star level player...compared to the rest of baseball? Barely competent. So the walk rate is a fluke, but the low OPS isn't? He put up an .810 OPS last year, and a .770 in 2017 (albeit he was bad 2018). Isn't it possible, if not probable, that evens out as well?
  23. He along with Lyles were the team's best two pitchers in August and September last year. This isn't out of nowhere.
