  1. Off of what are we basing Hiura being a "star offensive player?" I guess he had a nice half season while striking out 35% of the time but so have over half of major league ball players. Personally, I need more of a sample size before I'm going that far. Hiura has elite bat speed and was very good for us last year. He can definitely be a star offensive player. He also just turned 24 a couple weeks ago, and has less than a full season of MLB at bats under his belt. There's going to be growing pains for sure. We are seeing them this season as pitchers get a book on him. It's going to be up to him to evolve.
  2. See, that's a good reason to make a change. Systematic failure. This is a good point. That said most of these guys don't have a track record of being that good. The only ones who do are Braun and Yelich and Braun is at the end. Not saying Haines isn't the problem but it's not like he's working with a ton of high level talent in my opinion. The Brewers signed a bunch of guys that a solid team could theoretically hide in their lineup. They may even put up decent numbers because they would be seeing better pitches to hit than their star counterparts. But when you put too many of those types in a lineup, their warts show even more.
  3. I never said it was a meaningless position. But it seems like fans tend to give the position a level of importance that just isn't viable. Hitting coaches and pitching coaches are always scapegoats. That's why there is so much turnover in those roles across MLB. The offense has underachieved since he has been here. To be just about league average with Yelich at an MVP level as well as Hiura, Grandal, Moustakas, Cain, and Braun is pretty unacceptable. This is not just about the season so far but the job Haines has not done since being hired. A big part of that is on the guys signed to fill out the lineup around those guys. The hitting coach is always the easy target, but in the end, the hitters are paid to hit. When they don't, it's essentially on them.

  5. What is a new coach going to do? "Hey, all you guys with mediocre (at best) track records... go hit better..!" I've always thought that blaming the hitting coach is kind of a empty scapegoat. These guys are professional athletes. People said the same thing about Darnell Coles before he was let go.
  6. Agreed......he just needs to work through it...... Don't get me wrong ... I'm extremely high on Hiura. He's a huge talent. But he looks like he's guessing up there.
  7. If they had a replacement who wasn't currently doing worse than Hiura I'd agree. Sending him down would just lead to even more Sogard and Holt, so I think as bad as he's doing, he's doing better than his replacements would. Honestly, I'd probably play Urias at 2B, Arcia at SS, and give Gyorko the majority of the time at 3B. Keston is too good of a hitter to be striking out at such an alarming rate. He's gotta figure some things out.
  8. This would have sounded blasphemous a month ago, but it might be time to send Keston on an all-expenses-paid trip to Appleton, and give Urias his innings at 2B. He simply doesn't have much of a clue right now.
  9. Ugh ... I knew I'd eventually be burned by paying attention to NBA basketball. Indifference may just be the safest option.
  10. Granted anything can happen, but this echoes my thoughts as well. I expect the Bucks to come out on fire in the 2nd half, and win this one going away.
  11. I didn't care about it beacuse we had Jones. I'd be shocked if Jones starts 16 games next year again. I would plan on him missing a handful, so I was hoping we'd get a RB at some point. It was more that I didn't know much about Dillon and this was supposed to be a REALLY weak class for RB's after the top 4-5 and he was It was more about just wanting to see a WR'er who could come in and help. Mimms had just gone off the board, I was looking at someone like Duvernay who might not be all that well rounded, but who has the speed to make an impact right away. And sure, lots of physical freaks don't end up doing anything in the NFL...but they usually don't have the resume of a guy like Dillon. By now I think it's become apparent that Gute and Lafleur have a "type" that they look for in WRs, and players like Devin Duvernay just aren't it. They want those big, tall guys with huge catch radiuses ... even in the slot. There were several WRs that fit that bill, but the top guys were taken by the time the Packers were on the clock, and the 2nd tier of them wasn't good enough to warrant a selection in the top two rounds. I think if Mims would have been there, he'd be a Packer. I too was disappointed that they didn't grab a WR, but watching the way the board fell, it was understandable why they did what they did.
  12. This is no the first time that Cubs/Yankees deal has been brought up as a comp for Hader, and it likely won't be the last. But even though Chapman went to the Cubs, pitched great, and likely won them the World Series, that deal continues to be widely panned as a terrible overpay. That was a case of a stacked team desperately needing a closer dealing with another typically stacked team that was having a down season. It was a perfect storm scenario that likely won't be repeated anytime soon. Basically, if you are holding out for a Torres-type prospect, get used to seeing Hader on this team, because he isn't going anywhere. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
  13. Moving Keston to DH would basically be them giving up on Keston at 2B and telling him that he will be the DH the next 5 seasons. I don’t think him moving to DH is an option at this point. Could he be our first baseman heading into 2021? How about left field? For reference, Prince and Hiura are both 6’ so it’s at least something to consider. But no, I don’t see them moving him to DH. See if he continues to improve at 2B the rest of the season. Consider a position change to 1B after the season. That’s at least what I would look to do at this point. It would be big to be able to hit the free agency pool with the DH spot open. It at least gives you the option to bring in guys like Cruz, Encarnacion, possibly Castellanos, guys like that to improve the lineup that may be better suited as a DH. I personally don't think Hiura has looked too bad defensively this year. A few little hiccups, but nothing to get too uptight about. He's never going to be a Gold Glover out there, but if he can get to the point when you don't notice him on defense, that's a win.
  14. I thought that already happened? Both were demoted over the weekend. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/29679378/sources-choices-mike-clevinger-zach-plesac-break-protocol-caused-rift-cleveland-indians Good to see the players taking it seriously and policing themselves.
  15. Monte Harrison may end up being the best of all of them. He's got a -.1 WAR in 23 ABs so far in his MLB career.
  16. What don't you like about Garcia? Why would you trade your only really decent starter? 1. He's expensive at about $10 million/year. 2. If you remove his All-Star year in 2017, he's generally a low-OBP hitter. 3. He offers pretty average power for a low-obp coerner outfielder. I would rather have kept Grisham and his likely high OBP Gotta give to get typically, and Urias looks like he may just prove to be quite useful, albeit in a small sample size so far. If Lauer figures some things out and makes himself into a useful pitcher, that very well may turn out to be a fine trade. Maybe even one of those rare ones that turns out good for both teams.
